It seems that the whole K-1 situation might have a new twist to it. Go Yamamoto, aka Shiroobi is reporting that Barbizon, a luxury real estate rentals and investment company that acquired the rights and associated trademarks of K-1 back in 2011 has sold K-1 to EMCOM. Supposedly EMCOM is buying the K-1 trademark and video archive for approximately 7.19 million American dollars.
I dug a bit deeper to find more info on this. EMCOM is a Japanese "Technology & Finance Company." There is a press release on their site about "K-1 Global Holdings Limited" that seems to indicate that they've acquired K-1. I've ran the press release through Google Translate and what I've managed to interpret is that the deal is with EMCOM Holdings Inc. and EMCOM Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of EMCOM Holdings Inc. It seems that the board of directors met and discussed planning, production and management for "K-1 Global Holdings Limited." It looks like EMCOM Entertainment Inc. got a loan from EMCOM Holdings Inc. to make the purchase of "K-1 Global Holdings Limited."
From what I can interpret, it looks like EMCOM Entertainment will try to organize events and "expand" the marketing/business, which is said a few times in the press release. EMCOM Entertainment was commissioned to "expand marketing." Translated part of the press release below. It's a bit scrambled up, but the message is pretty clear.
"Among such conditions, subject to the world of martial arts event "K-1" can license the brand to expand
You can now start a new business and for the purpose.
2. Summary of new business
(1) Details of new business
The future, K-MMA event with 1Globail "K-1" planning and organizers, the related licensing business
ON LINE IT with an emphasis on business and entertainment events and competitions in Europe, U.S. and Asian sporting excellence"
It says that "K-1 Global Holdings Limited" was established on August 2, 2011 in Hong Kong, currently based in Hong Kong and that the CEO is Kenichi Kin.
EMCOM Entertainment is expected to hold 51% of the outstanding shares of "K-1 Global Holdings Limited," making K-1 a subsidiary of EMCOM Entertainment.
This is really an interesting turn of events. EMCOM seems like they believe they're going to run K-1 and expand it. This is all very early into the situation and not everything is clear. We'll have more on this topic very soon. [source]
This information is what I can gather from the press release. It may not be 100% right due to the translation.
