Default UFC on FX 4: Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida | 22juni

UFC lightweight contenders Gray Maynard and Clay Guida will meet in a five-round main event at UFC on FX 4, the UFC announced Sunday.

Both Maynard, 32, and Guida, 32, enter their fight having most recently suffered losses.

Maynard returns to action after losing to now former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 136 in October of 2011.

The former Michigan State wrestler also left his longtime camp Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada for Nova Uniao under the direction of Andre Pedernerias.

Guida has not fought since losing a number-one contender match to now UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson at UFC on FOX 1 in November of 2011.

The bout between Maynard and Guida will serve as the main event for UFC on FX 4 and is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds.

Atlantic City's Revel to Host UFC on FX 4

Revel, Atlantic City's newest hotel and resort casino, will host the UFC's return to the area later this summer.

The news was first reported by "The Press of Atlantic City," and MMA Fighting has since confirmed the venue with UFC officials.

Revel will open its doors to the public in a soft launch on April 2 before its grand opening on May 25. The UFC event, dubbed UFC on FX 4, will take place less than a month later on June 22. According to the report, Revel's arena can hold 5,500 fans.

The event will mark the promotion's first card in Atlantic City since UFC 53 in June 2005. UFC officials will announce ticket information in the coming weeks.
The card's main event will feature a five-round lightweight fight between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.

Clay vecht tegenwoordig een stuk slimmer. Denk dat hij deze wel pakt.

Dan Miller Drops to Welterweight, Meets Ricardo Funch at UFC on FX 4

Dan Miller is the latest UFC fighter to change weight classes.

The New Jersey-native has decided to drop down to 170 pounds and will face Ricardo Funch at UFC on FX 4 in Atlantic City, N.J., the promotion announced on Wednesday night.

UFC on FX 4, headlined by Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida, is scheduled for June 22 at Revel Atlantic City. It will mark the organization's first event in Atlantic City in seven years.

Miller (13-6, 1 NC) hasn't fought since losing to Rousimar Palhares at UFC 134 last August. Since then, he took some time off from the sport to take care of his son, who has been battling a genetic kidney disorder. The 30-year-old Miller is 2-5 in his last seven fights, losing to top contenders Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia, Michael Bisping, Nate Marquardt and Palhares. His two wins during that stretch came against Joe Doerksen and John Salter.

Funch (8-3) was unsuccessful in his return to the UFC in January, losing to Mike Pyle via first-round TKO at UFC 142.

The UFC also announced these fights for UFC on FX 4: Brian Ebersole vs. TJ Waldburger, Matt Riddle vs. Luis Ramos, Rich Attonito vs. Rick Story, Nick Catone vs. Chris Camozzi.

Gray Maynard Settles on New Camp for Clay Guida Fight

When Gray Maynard meets Clay Guida on June 22 in Atlantic City, N.J., it will mark his first UFC fight without any members of Xtreme Couture by his side. "The Bully" announced following his UFC 136 loss to Frankie Edgar last year that he would no longer be training at the Las Vegas gym.

Maynard insisted his departure had nothing to do with the personnel at Xtreme Couture, but rather wanting to experience training with other fighters and coaches around the world.

So with less than three months to go before his UFC on FX 4 fight, Maynard has settled on a new team. The 32-year-old recently told MMAFighting.com that he will train at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif., "two-to-three times" a week, as well as with famed strength and conditioning coaches Marv and Gary Marinovich and boxing coach Rick Noble.

The arrival of Maynard (10-1-1, 1 NC) to AKA all but cements that camp's status as the best wrestling team in MMA, as it is also home to the likes of Daniel Cormier, Muhammed Lawal, Cain Velasquez and Jon Fitch, to name a few.

The Marinovich brothers are no strangers to MMA, most notably working with BJ Penn during his lightweight title reign in 2009.
UFC on FX 4, headlined by Maynard vs. Guida, will take place at Atlantic City's Revel hotel and resort.

Hatsu Hioki Turns Down Title Shot, Faces Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FX 4

Apparently Hatsu Hioki was being honest when he said he wasn't ready to fight for the title.

Hioki, who many consider to be the second-best featherweight in the world, has agreed to face Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FX 4 on June 22 in Atlantic City, N.J., FoxSports.com reported Wednesday night.
"Many pegged Hioki as the next possible challenger for Jose Aldo's title, but he wants one more test before going for the belt," UFC president Dana White said in the report. "In his way is Lamas, who has proven to be a tough competitor for anyone to deal with, especially since moving down to featherweight and finishing both opponents at 145 pounds. Both guys have verbally agreed to the match."
According to sources, the UFC wanted to book Hioki against UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, however, the Japanese fighter asked for another fight before challenging for the title.

The 28-year-old Hioki (26-4) is 2-0 since signing with the UFC. He defeated Bart Palaszewski via unanimous at UFC 144 in February and George Roop via split decision in October. He'll enter the bout riding a six-fight winning streak.
Lamas (11-2) is 2-0 since dropping down to 145 pounds. He submitted Cub Swanson via arm-triangle at UFC on FOX 1 and Matt Grice via TKO at UFC on Versus 4.

As a result of this matchup and the upcoming Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung fight in May, all signs point to Erik Koch being Aldo's next challenger for the title. CagePotato.com reported on Wednesday that the fight is close to being finalized.

Dustin Pague Agrees to Fight Ken Stone at UFC on FX 4 One Week After UFC on FX 3 Win

Dustin Pague will not be taking any time off to celebrate last week's win over Jared Papazian.

The UFC bantamweight has agreed to replace the injured Francisco Rivera versus Ken Stone at next week's UFC on FX 4 event in Atlantic City, N.J., MMAFighting.com has confirmed with sources close to the fight. Rivera pulled out of the fight due to a staph infection.

Pague (11-5) needed just 3:21 to submit Papazian at UFC on FX 3 last Friday via first-round rear-naked choke. The win marked his first inside the Octagon.

Stone (10-3) most recently defeated Donny Walker at UFC Fight Night 25 last September.
This marks Stone's third opponent for this fight, as he was originally scheduled to meet Edwin Figueroa before Figueroa pulled out due to an injury. The fight will take place on the Facebook prelims, which will air prior to the FUEL TV undercard and FX main card, headlined by Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida.

Spencer Fisher 'Pretty Sure' Friday's UFC on FX 4 Fight Will Be His Last

UFC lightweight Spencer Fisher hasn't officially closed the book on his career, but he admits he is pretty darn close.

The 36-year-old Fisher, who meets Sam Stout for a third time this Friday at UFC on FX 4, confirmed with MMAFighting.com this week that he's "pretty sure" Friday's fight will be his last.

"I've been missing a lot of stuff with my family," he said. "It gets tougher and tougher as they get older."

Fisher, who trained for this fight with Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, Calif., also pointed to mounting injuries over the years as another reason why he thinks this may be the right time to walk away. However, he did admit that a first-round knockout against his old Canadian foe Stout would force him to strongly reconsider his future plans.

"The King" enters this fight having lost four his last five fights. He first met Stout at UFC 58 six years ago in what was Fisher's lightweight debut. On that night, Stout bested Fisher via split decision, but the fight was so close and so exciting, that the UFC pitted the fighters against each other the following year at UFC Fight Night 10 in June 2007. Fisher would get revenge on Stout in Florida defeating "Hands of Stone" via unanimous decision.

Fisher, a 10-year veteran of the sport, believes their third fight will largely resemble the first two, which means few takedown attempts and many punches thrown. He said despite the losing streak and retirement talk, he hasn't felt any extra pressure heading into Friday night.

"No pressure," he said. "I want to go out there and fight. Swing for the fences."

Fisher added that he likes the fact that he knows exactly what he is going to get from Stout.

"I don't have to find him," he said. "He'll be right there in the middle."

Over the past year we've seen veterans like Chris Lytle and Jorge Rivera announce their retirement on fight week and stick with those plans (at least for now) despite looking good in victory. Fisher, on the other hand, has left the door a tiny bit open in case a vintage performance materializes in Atlantic City, N.J., but he has already come to terms with the fact that Friday's trilogy fight with Stout could very well be his last.

"It kinda makes sense right now," he said.
