Default UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort

Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II, Penn vs. MacDonald Targeted For UFC 152

In one broad stroke, UFC president Dana White unveiled the expected marquee acts for UFC 152.

If all goes according to plan, the event will see Junior dos Santos defend the UFC heavyweight championship against Cain Velasquez in the headliner, while B.J. Penn would take on Rory MacDonald in the co-main event.

White revealed the news following the UFC on FX 3 post-fight press conference.

Neither of the fights are yet official, however.

The event, scheduled for September 22 in Toronto, does not yet have a host arena, though it is expected to emanate from the Air Canada Centre, the site of last December's UFC 141.

dos Santos-Velasquez would be a rematch of their November 2011 fight which marked the beginning of dos Santos' title reign. He knocked out Velasquez in just 64 seconds before defending the belt in a second-round TKO of Frank Mir at last month's UFC 146.

Velasquez also won on that card, brutalizing Antonio Silva en route to a first-round TKO finish.

The MacDonald vs. Penn fight was a bout essentially booked by the fighters themselves. Last Monday on the MMA Hour, MacDonald challenged the legendary Hawaiian to the match, and within days, Penn accepted the challenge.

Penn briefly retired after his last match, a decision loss to Nick Diaz, but he'll try to produce at least one more moment of glory against the fast-rising MacDonald.

Dana White: dos Santos vs. Velasquez Rematch No Longer Likely for UFC 152

It was just two weeks ago when UFC president Dana White announced that the UFC's return to Toronto in September was likely to feature the UFC heavyweight title rematch between champ Junior dos Santos and challenger Cain Velasquez.

    That's no longer the case.

In a UFC 147 post-fight interview on FUEL, White said while the fight was still going to happen, the date was likely to shift.

"The fight will happen, probably not in Toronto though," he said.

White did not give any indication of a new timeframe for the fight, saying, "it's going to depend on Junior," but offering no further specifics.

dos Santos knocked out Velasquez in just 64 seconds the first time around, and he recently defended his championship for the first time with a second-round knockout of Frank Mir at UFC 146. Velasquez rebounded from his first career loss with a knockout of his own against Antonio Silva on the same night.

During UFC 147 fight week in Brazil, the promotion announced that they were likely to return to the MMA hotbed in October. The date would certainly fit with a dos Santos title defense, but for now, White isn't saying whether or not the title match will be slotted into the show or shifted elsewhere on the rapidly filling calendar.

For now, a matchup pitting veteran B.J. Penn vs. upstart Rory MacDonald is the only fight the UFC remains publicly targeting for UFC 152.

Benavidez vs. Johnson, Bisping vs. Stann Slated for UFC 152

Brian Stann has won the Michael Bisping sweepstakes.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Stann will meet Bisping on Sept. 22 at UFC 152 in Toronto. Both Stann and Bisping have verbally agreed to the fight but have yet to sign bout agreements.

In addition to that fight, the pay-per-view will be headlined by Joseph Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson for the inaugural UFC flyweight title.
Stann and Alan Belcher have been openly campaigning for a shot at Bisping during the last couple of weeks. In fact, at a UFC 148 pool party last week in Las Vegas the middleweights were seen trying to convince UFC matchmaker Joe Silva to give them the Brit next.

Stann (12-4) most recently defeated Alessio Sakara in April. He was scheduled to fight Hector Lombard at UFC on FOX 4, however, he pulled out of the fight last month due to an injured shoulder.

Bisping (22-4) lost to Chael Sonnen via unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 2 in January. He later pulled out of a UFC 149 fight against Tim Boetsch due to an injured knee.

Benavidez (16-2) won his UFC flyweight debut in March when he defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani via TKO, while McCall (15-2-1) punched his ticket to the finals of the 125-pound tournament by beating Ian McCall via unanimous decision last month in Florida.

UFC 152, which will also feature B.J. Penn vs. Rory MacDonald, will take place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Stann vs. Bisping will serve as the night's co-main event. The main card will air live on pay-per-view.

Jimy Hettes vs. Marcus Brimage Booked for UFC 152

Undefeated featherweight prospect Jimy Hettes will return to action at UFC 152 against Marcus Brimage, the promotion announced on Tuesday.

Hettes (10-0) hasn't fought since UFC 141 in December when he dominated Nam Phan en route to a unanimous decision win. The victory improved the 25-year-old's Octagon record to 2-0. Hettes was scheduled fight Steve Siler last month in Atlantic City, N.J., but he pulled out of the bout due to an injury.

Brimage (5-1) most recently defeated Maximo Blanco via split decision at UFC 145 in April. The TUF 14 cast member is 2-0 inside the Octagon.

Also recently announced for the card was Seth Baczynski vs. Simeon Thoresen and Vinny Magalhaes vs. Igor Pokrajac.

UFC 152, headlined by Joseph Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson for the first-ever UFC flyweight title, takes place Sept. 22 at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.

Bisping Stann lijkt me echt een hele leuke pot. Ik denk dat Stann te sterk is. Maar Bisping verrast me altijd wel. Die gast is 24 - 4 in de ufc. best een prestatie opzich.

VADA: Both B.J. Penn and Rory MacDonald Enrolled For Random Drug Testing

B.J. Penn and Rory MacDonald have taken a major step forward in the fight against performance-enhancing drugs in mixed martial arts. Both fighters have completed enrollment in the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association's testing program, VADA's president Dr. Margaret Goodman confirmed to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

That makes the UFC 152 matchup between the men the first tested under the stringent protocols of the independent agency.

" I have so much respect for both athletes in coming forward to undergo testing," Goodman said. "This is truly historic, and wonderful for the sport."
Under VADA testing, athletes volunteer to be tested randomly at any point in the eight weeks leading up to a fight. They are required to provide a daily schedule, allowing VADA testers to track them down and request a sample.

VADA also utilizes carbon isotope ratio testing, which is considered by most experts to be a more advanced way of catching testosterone users because it examines the makeup of testosterone to determine whether it is natural or synthetic. Most athletic commissions test for testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio, a measure that can be artificially manipulated.

In the recent past, several boxers have signed up for the program, with major names including Andre Berto (nandrolone) and Lamont Peterson (testosterone) testing positive for PED's, scratching fights in the process. Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren is one notable mixed martial artists who has also enrolled.

Penn originally challenged MacDonald to take part in the testing, but then later withdrew the demand after a request to keep the results under wraps until after fight's completion was nixed. After the UFC put together a title fight headliner pitting bantamweights Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson as well as a co-main event with Michael Bisping taking on Brian Stann, Penn said he felt more comfortable taking on the testing without a concern that UFC 152 could possibly lose a main event.

He soon enrolled, and now MacDonald has officially joined him, ensuring a drug-free matchup of legend vs. phenom on Sept. 22.

Charles Oliveira vs. Cub Swanson Set for UFC 152

A pair of the featherweight division's most exciting talents are set to square off in September, as surging Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson have been paired off for a UFC 152 bout, MMA Fighting has learned.

While the scrap hasn't yet been officially announced, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed that both sides have verbally agreed to the matchup.

Oliveira has impressively won both of his fights since making the move down to 145.

In January, he submitted Eric Wisely with a reverse calf slicer, and then added Jonathan Brookins to his list of victims in June, scoring another tapout win, this time by anaconda choke. The 22-year-old is 16-2 with 1 no contest overall.

Swanson is also riding a two-fight win streak, with both of those wins coming by TKO.

In January, he scored a second-round finish of George Roop, and followed that up with another second-round stoppage, this time against the durable Brit Ross Pearson. Swanson is 17-5.

UFC 152 is set for September 22 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. In the main event, flyweights Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson will battle to be crowned the division's inaugural champion.

Matt Hamill Ends One-Year Retirement, Battles Roger Hollett at UFC 152

Despite citing accumulated injuries and career fatigue as reasons for leaving mixed martial arts, light heavyweight Matt Hamill has ended his year-long retirement and will return to the UFC Octagon on September 22nd at UFC 152 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the news.

Hamill, 35, retired with a formal announcement on August 8, 2011. This came just two days after being stopped by strikes in the second round in his bout Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The loss to Gustafsson was Hamill's second in a row, having dropped a unanimous decision to Quinton Jackson at UFC 130.

"Today is a sad day for me," Hamill announced last year on his official website. "After six years and 13 fights in the UFC, I'm ready to hang up my gloves and retire from this amazing sport."

"I was ready to make this decision after UFC 130, but my friends, family coaches and most importantly my daughter encouraged me to give it one last chance," Hamill continued. "My career has been plagued by injuries starting with 'The Ultimate Fighter' and disrupted my training ever since. There hasn't been even one training camp where I've been able to train without training around an injury. I have not been kind to my body and it has nothing left after 28 years of nonstop competition. It's time to finally give it a rest."

No reason was given explaining what prompted Hamill to return to professional MMA.

The only deaf fighter to have competed in the UFC, Hamill accumulated a 10-4 MMA record with only one fight (a win in his MMA professional debut) outside of the UFC. He rose to prominence on the third season of Spike TV's 'The Ultimate Fighter' as part of Team Ortiz.

An accomplished amateur wrestler, he is a three-time NCAA Division III national champion and earned a gold medal at 2001 Deaflympics. His life was the subject the of movie 'Hamill', released in 2010.

Hollett is 13-3 in his MMA career and a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He is making his UFC debut after a career spent competing entirely in Canada, predominantly on regional shows. He holds a victory over UFC veteran Victor Valimaki and most recently fought for Bellator where he defeated John Hawk by split decision in November of 2011.

Default Rory Macdonald vecht NIET tegen BJ Penn op 152, ook Koscheck out

uote: http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Rory-MacDonald-Suffers-Cut-in-Training-Withdraws-from-UFC-152-Scrap-with-BJ-Penn-44687Rory MacDonald Suffers Cut in Training, Withdraws from UFC 152 Scrap with B.J. Penn
By Mike Whitman Aug 4, 2012

Canadian welterweight prospect Rory MacDonald has suffered a large cut in training and will be unable to compete as expected against B.J. Penn at UFC 152.

UFC President Dana White announced the news following UFC on Fox 4 on Saturday night, and MacDonald confirmed the development via Twitter.

UFC 152 takes place Sept. 22 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto and will be headlined by a flyweight title showdown between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez. No replacement for MacDonald was announced.

MacDonald has won three consecutive bouts since dropping his sophomore UFC effort to Carlos Condit in a competitive contest more than two years ago at UFC 115. MacDonald went on to dominate the always game Nate Diaz and veteran Mike Pyle before doing the same to former Cage Rage British welterweight champ Che Mills in his most recent outing this past April at UFC 145.

Meanwhile, Penn has not competed since announcing his retirement following a bloody, hard-fought loss at the hands of Nick Diaz last October. Prior to the defeat, the former two-division champion fought highly regarded welterweight John Fitch to a majority draw at UFC 127. The 33-year-old holds notable victories over Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian, Matt Hughes (twice), Renzo Gracie and Caol Uno, among others.

Beetje sneu zou het zijn als de UFC een titelgevecht als co-mainevent zou doen. Ookal is het dan flyweight wat eigenlijk niemand wat boeit.

Jon Jones will not be facing Lyoto Machida at UFC 152 after all.

Instead, Vitor Belfort will fight Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title on Sept. 22 in Toronto. UFC president Dana White confirmed the change late Thursday night.

According to White, Machida turned down the title shot on Thursday. Belfort volunteered to fight Jones on one month's notice and was granted the title shot by the promotion.

Belfort was originally scheduled to face Alan Belcher at UFC 153 in October. White said he hasn't decided who will fight Belcher instead.
