Yves Edwards vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg added to February's UFC 156 fight card

A lightweight bout between Strikeforce import Isaac Vallie-Flagg (13-3-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and "Thugjitsu Master" Yves Edwards (42-18-1 UFC, 10-6 UFC) is the latest addition to February's UFC 156 event.

UFC officials today announced the new booking.

Featuring a headliner of UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) against former lightweight titleholder Frankie Edgar (14-3-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC), UFC 156 takes place Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

The evening's main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook. UFC officials did not reveal where the Vallie-Flagg vs. Edwards matchup will take place on the evening's lineup.

Flag enters the UFC after earning back-to-back split-decision wins over the Gesias"JZ" Cavalcante and Brian Melancon under the Strikeforce banner. The Jackson-Winkeljohn fighter has fought professionally since 2003 and currently boasts an 11-fight unbeaten streak after opening his career at just 3-3.

Meanwhile, Edwards returns quickly to action after earning a "Knockout of the Night" stoppage of Jeremy Stephens at December's UFC on FOX 5 event. Due to injury and the odd fight-day arrest of Jeremy Stephens at October's UFC on FX 5 event, Edwards fought just once in 2012.

With the new addition, UFC 156 now includes:

Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar - for featherweight title
Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
    Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva
    Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia
    Evan Dunham vs. Gleison Tibau
    Bobby Green vs. Jacob Volkmann
    Edwin Figueroa vs. Francisco Rivera
    Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall
    Jay Hieron vs. Tyron Woodley
    Yves Edwards vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg

Overeem unanimously granted MMA license by NSAC

Today, Alistair Overeem is meeting with the NSAC to apply for his license as an MMA athlete. He will be asked to present evidence that he has been clean during his suspension and will find out if he is to be licensed today. John Morgan from MMAJunkie is on the scene:
-Blasting through a few reservation dates and grant requests, and now it's time for Overeem.
-Jovial start to Overeem's hearing, as he's questioned about the weather in Florida, his new home.
-Overeem: "We've done everything we can to correct the errors that were made."
-Kizer said Overeem sent in five tests between June and November that were all clean. Additionally, he was tested by NSAC on 11/16 and 12/21.
-Alistair said he's been training during his time off and is actually bigger than he was before.
-Alistair said he has a new nutritionist and a better medical team to ensure he's always clean.
-Pat Lundvall asking if Alistair has insight on any lessons NSAC can learn from this situation.
-Overeem suggest NSAC needs to address the difficulty of arranging testing internationally.
-Motion is on the table and approved unanimously. Overeem has his license.

Chico Camus vs. Dustin Kimura joins UFC 156 Super Bowl show

A bantamweight bout between Chico Camus (12-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and undefeated promotional newcomer Dustin Kimura (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is the newest addition to next month's UFC 156 card.

UFC officials today announced the bout.

UFC 156 takes place Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Camus vs. Kimura will be part of the prelims.

Camus, a Roufusport fighter based out of Wisconsin, recently made his UFC debut and scored a unanimous-decision victory over well-regarded Dustin Pague at UFC 150. It marked his fourth straight victory, all of which have come via decision. However, seven of his first eight wins came via stoppage.

He now takes on Kimura, a Hawaiian submission specialist who turned pro three-and-a-half years ago. After competing for a handful of Hawaiian promotions, Kimura headed to the Philippines in November for PXC 34, where he defeated Guy Delumeau (16-7-3 at the time) with a third-round knockout.

With the new addition, UFC 156 now includes:

Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar - for featherweight title
Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
    Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva
    Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia
    Evan Dunham vs. Gleison Tibau
    Bobby Green vs. Jacob Volkmann
    Edwin Figueroa vs. Francisco Rivera
    Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall
    Jay Hieron vs. Tyron Woodley
    Yves Edwards vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg

NSAC licenses Alistair Overeem for UFC 156 fight with Antonio Silva

Following a Tuesday hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Alistair Overeem has been cleared to fight Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the co-main event of February's UFC 156 event.

Overeem was required to appear in front of the commission after the NSAC declined to license him for a planned May 2012 fight with Junior dos Santos due to a failed drug screen. During the hearing, he said the ordeal proved educational, and he has since taken steps to ensure he never again fails a drug screen.

"I think we've done everything we could to correct ourselves from the errors that were made, and I'm just ready to get my life back on track," Overeem told the commission. "I'm ready to get back to fighting."

NSAC executive director Keith Kizer revealed Overeem sent in five voluntary testing results between June and November and was also subjected to NSAC-administered blood and urine testing on Nov. 16 and Dec. 21. All results were negative. After hearing Overeem's testimony, the NSAC voted unanimously to approve his application

The massively chiseled Overeem has long been at the center of controversy regarding performance-enhancing drug use accusations. The Dutchman long contended he was a "clean fighter" and the "most-tested athlete in sports." However, he was in 2011 suspended by the NSAC when a a pre-UFC 146 drug test was flagged for a 14-to-1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio, more than twice the 6-to-1 ratio allowed by the commission.

Overeem maintained his innocence throughout his NSAC hearings and suggested a prescribed injection was responsible for his heightened ratios. Still, the NSAC declined to issue him a license and refused to hear a new application before Dec. 27. With the issue behind him, Overeem said he's ready to move forward with his career and is looking forward to UFC 156.

"Today I went for my license," Overeem told MMAjunkie following the hearing. "I'm very happy to inform you guys that I got licensed to fight Feb. 2 in the UFC against 'Bigfoot' Silva.

"For me, it's now back to work, back to entering the gym. I'm already basically in shape, so it's just a couple more weeks of grinding it, and then it's going to be showtime again."

Overeem said he spent his de facto suspension focused on training and has actually added weight since his most recent appearance, a UFC 141 win over Brock Lesnar in December 2011. Overeem credited work with a new nutritionist and medical team for ensuring his testosterone levels are now within allowable limits.

"I just invested in getting to the next level; 2012 was not a lost year" Overeem said. "It was a year of learning from mistakes and preparing for a better 2013."
