Default UFC on FOX 6: Johnson vs. Dodson

Yet another title fight is heading to FOX.

Newly crowned UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (16-2-1) will make the first defense of his belt against TUF 14 winner John Dodson (14-5) in the main event of UFC on FOX 6, according to UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani.

In addition, a long-awaited contenders match-up pitting Donald Cerrone (19-4, 1 NC) against former WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (15-2) is being targeted for the FOX-televised main card.

UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26, 2013, at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., and is the first of four planned UFC on FOX events scheduled for 2013.

A former bantamweight title challenger, Johnson, 26, clawed his way to the inaugural flyweight belt with consecutive decision wins over Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez, the latter of which he earned via split judges’ scores.
Meanwhile, Dodson, 28, rides a five-fight win streak into the bout, including TKO finishes over T.J. Dillashaw to earn the TUF 14 bantamweight crown and Jussier Formiga in a No. 1 contender’s match last October.

Former WEC stars Cerrone, 29, and Pettis, 25, finally hope to settle their bad blood after sitting idle for months due to an unrelenting sting of injuries to Pettis. Both men enter on the strength of two-fight win streaks capped by highlight-reel first-round knockouts. Cerrone most recently floored Melvin Guillard in an electrifying ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate, while Pettis head kicked Joe Lauzon into unconsciousness back in February.

Matt Wiman vs. T.J. Grant announced for UFC on FOX 6

A third fight has been added to the recently-announced Jan. 26, 2013, UFC on FOX 6 event at the United Center in Chicago, Ill.: a lightweight bout between Matt Wiman and T.J. Grant. The event was announced on UFC Canada's Twitter feed.

Wiman, 29, is on a two-fight win streak in the UFC. He most recently defeated Paul Sass by armbar at UFC on FUEL TV 5 in September of this year.

Grant, 28, is on a three-fight win streak since dropping to lightweight after spending the majority of his career at welterwight. He last competed at UFC 152 in September where he defeated Evan Dunham by unanimous decision.

UFC on FOX 6 will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger, as well as winner of season 14 of Spike TV's 'The Ultimate Fighter' at bantamweight, John Dodson.

Also scheduled for the event, top lightweight contenders and WEC alums Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis will face off in a bout expected to be placed on the main card.

Clay Guida-Hatsu Hioki, Mike Russow-Shawn Jordan added to UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago

The card for the UFC's return to the Windy City continues to experience rapid growth.

Another pair of fights is headed for the January card in Chicago. Clay Guida (29-13 MMA, 9-7 UFC) will make his featherweight debut after a long run at lightweight when he meets Hatsu Hioki (26-5-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC). And heavyweights Mike Russow (15-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Shawn Jordan (13-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will clash.

UFC officials late Wednesday announced the fight bookings, which had been reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.

UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26 at Chicago's United Center and will be the promotion's second trip to that venue. UFC on FOX 2 took place there this past January. The main card will air on FOX with prelims on FUEL TV.

Guida is an upstate Illinois native who spent the first part of his career training in the Chicago suburbs. And Russow lives an hour south of Chicago, but is a police officer in the city.

Guida in September announced plans to drop from lightweight to featherweight and hoped to return to action in the first part of 2013. That will indeed be the case as he is thrown right into the 145-pound fire against Hioki, who until recently was regarded by many as the No. 2 featherweight in the world.

Guida in June dropped a close split decision to Gray Maynard in the main event of UFC on FX 4 in Atlantic City, N.J. Prior to that, he dropped a lightweight title eliminator against Benson Henderson at UFC on FOX 1, which snapped a four-fight win streak that included victories over Takanori Gomi and Anthony Pettis.

Hioki in June at UFC on FX 4 was upset by Ricardo Lamas by unanimous decision. That setback snapped a six-fight win streak for the Japanese fighter and was just his second loss since 2007.

Russow will look to get back on track after suffering his first loss since early 2007. In June, Russow went into enemy territory in Brazil and was quickly stopped by fan favorite Fabricio Werdum at UFC 147. That loss snapped Russow's 11-fight win streak. In January at UFC on FOX 2 in Chicago, Russow won a unanimous decision against John-Olav Einemo.

Jordan in July dropped a unanimous decision to Cheick Kongo at UFC 149 in a fight that was widely criticized by fans and UFC President Dana White alike. Jordan, a former fullback at Louisiana State University, won his UFC debut in March with a TKO of Oli Thompson.

UFC on FOX 6 will feature a main event flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and top contender John Dodson, plus a lightweight contenders battle between Donald Cerrone and former WEC champion Anthony Pettis. Plus, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson recently tweeted he'll be meeting Glover Teixeira on the card.

The latest UFC on FOX 6 card now includes:

Champion Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson - for flyweight title
    Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis
    Quinton Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira
    Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki
    Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas
    Shawn Jordan vs. Mike Russow
    T.J. Grant vs. Matt Wiman

Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas featherweight tilt shifts to UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago

It'll be a home fight for one and a quick trip down Interstate 94 for the other.

Featherweights Erik Koch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Ricardo Lamas (12-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will meet when the UFC returns to Chicago in January for UFC on FOX 6. Sources with knowledge of the fight on Wednesday confirmed its new date to MMAjunkie.com.

The bout originally was targeted for the year-end UFC 155 pay-per-view in Las Vegas, but now finds a home in the Windy City. UFC officials recently confirmed the winner could be in position for a shot at the 145-pound championship.

UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26 at Chicago's United Center and will be the promotion's second trip to that venue. UFC on FOX 2 took place there this past January. The main card will air on FOX with prelims on FUEL TV.

Lamas lives and trains in the Chicago area, while Koch's training home is with the Duke Roufus camp in Milwaukee, just 90 miles away.

Koch was scheduled to meet featherweight champion Jose Aldo (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) at UFC 153 in October. But a Koch injury forced him off the card, and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, dropping down a weight class, was set to fight for the title. But then Aldo, too, was hurt, and the fight was canceled. Aldo and Edgar will fight at UFC 156 in February, and the Koch vs. Lamas winner could be up next.

Koch most recently fought in September 2011, when he beat "TUF 12" winner Jonathan Brookins by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 25, which made him 2-0 in the UFC. Since his lone pro loss to Chad Mendes at WEC 47, Koch is 4-0. But he'll be returning to the octagon after 16 months on the sidelines.

Lamas is coming off a unanimous-decision win over Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FX 4 in June. The upset of the Japanese fighter (whom many considered No. 2 in the world at the time) moved Lamas to 3-0 in the UFC. Before the win over Hioki, Lamas had a "Submission of the Night" win over Cub Swanson at UFC on FOX 1 and a knockout victory over Matt Grice in June 2011.

Rampage Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira officially added to UFC on FOX 6

The UFC's sixth offering on FOX is quickly filling up, and it's shaping up to be a very strong card.A day after Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson for the UFC flyweight title and Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis were officially announced for the Jan. 26 card, a light heavyweight bout between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (32-10) and Glover Teixeira (19-2) has been added to the bill, as well. UFC.com reported the news Wednesday night.

This fight marks the final one on Jackson's current UFC contract. The former light heavyweight champion hasn't fought since he lost a unanimous decision to Ryan Bader at UFC 144 in February.

The light heavyweights were supposed to fight at UFC 153, but Jackson pulled out of the fight due to an injured elbow. Instead, Teixeira fought and defeated Fabio Maldonado on the Oct. 13 card via TKO.

Jackson enters the fight stuck in a two-fight losing streak, while Teixeira has won his last 17 fights in a row.

Below is a look at the updated UFC on FOX 6 card, which will be held at the United Center in Chicago.

Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. John Dodson -- UFC flyweight title fight
    Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis
    Quinton Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira
    T.J. Grant vs. Matt Wiman
    Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki
    Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas

Clay Guida to make featherweight debut against Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FOX 6

Clay Guida couldn't have asked for more from his featherweight debut.

Following a bizarre and unpopular loss to Gray Maynard, the Illinois native and longtime lightweight contender is slated to meet top-ranked 145-pounder Hatsu Hioki under the hometown lights of Chicago's United Center at UFC on FOX 6.

In addition, a potential No. 1 contenders bout between Ricardo Lamas and Erik Koch originally planned for UFC 155 has been shifted to the network event. UFC officials announced the match-ups late Wednesday night.

Guida-Hioki and Lamas-Koch join an event already boasting a title fight, Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson, and two likely slugfests, Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis and Rampage Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira. Without tossing around too much hyperbole, it seems safe to say this card is already stacked in its present form.

Obviously the two upcoming FOX cards are a stark departure from the previous two network incarnations, which featured quality fights but lacked in eye-popping bookings. Blockbuster events like these are what many initially expected when the ink dried on the FOX deal. And while it's been a slow, at times seemingly painful crawl, if this is the norm from here on out, I don't think many fight fans will be complaining. Now let's just pray no one gets injured.

Pascal Krauss vs. Mike Stumpf joins UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago

Two welterweights will return from extended layoffs in January at UFC on FOX 6.

Well-rounded German competitor Pascal Krauss (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Illinois-based fighter Mike Stumpf (11-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) are set to meet at the event.

UFC on FOX 6, the UFC's first network-televised event of 2013, takes place Jan. 26 at United Center in Chicago.

The main card, including a title fight between featherweight champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger John Dodson, airs on FOX, and FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims. Krauss vs. Stumpf likely will be part of the prelims.

Krauss fights for the first time since a decision loss to John Hathaway at UFC on FOX 3 in May. The defeat was the first in a five-year pro career for Krauss, who then scratched from a September matchup with Gunnar Nelson due to rib and chest injuries.

He now meets Stumpf, a longtime XFO fighter who signed with the UFC in 2011 after putting together a 5-1 run on the regional scene. However, in his 2011 promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 25, he suffered a submission loss to T.J. Waldburger. He now fights for the first time in 16 months.

The latest UFC on FOX 6 card now includes:

Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson - for flyweight title
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira
    Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis
    Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki
    Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas
    T.J. Grant vs. Matt Wiman
    Shawn Jordan vs. Mike Russow
    Pascal Krauss vs. Mike Stumpf

Bader vs. Matyushenko, Mitchell vs. Thoresen added to UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago

A new pair of matchups are official for January's UFC on FOX 6 event as Ryan Bader (14-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) meets Vladimir Matyushenko (26-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC) and David Mitchell (11-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) faces Simeon Thoresen (17-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC).

UFC officials today announced the new bookings. Verbal agreements are in for both matchups, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

Featuring a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger John Dodson, UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26 at Chicago's United Center. The evening's main card airs on FOX following preliminary bouts on FX and Facebook.

Bader looks to bounce back from an August loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC on FOX 4. The second-round result snapped a two-fight win streak for Bader, who had earned victories over Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Jason Brilz. The loss also served as the first knockout loss of Bader's career.

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old Matyushenko also looks to rebound from a defeat after suffering a TKO loss to Alexander Gustafsson at this past December's UFC 141 event. Matyuehenko had been expected to face Matt Hamill in September, but injury forced him to withdraw from the card, and "The Janitor" now faces a 13-month layoff entering the fight with Bader.

Mitchell likely finds himself in a must-win situation, as he gets his third official chance at a UFC win. It's actually Mitchell's fourth booking, as he was expected to face promotional newcomer Hyun Gyu Lim at this past November's UFC on FUEL TV 6 event. However, Lim was declared medically unfit after failing to make weight, and Mitchell was unable to compete.

Norwegian Thoresen returns after suffering a knockout loss to Seth Baczynski at September's UFC 152 event. The result snapped a three-fight win streak that includes a submission win over Besam Yousef at UFC on FUEL TV 2 in Sweden. Fifteen of Thoresen's 17 career wins have come via submission.

The placement of the fight on the evening's lineup was not revealed.

Kuiper-Magalhaes off UFC on FX 7, Kuiper-Roberts joins UFC on FOX 6

Michael Kuiper has lost another opponent, and he'll now fight on a different card.

Kuiper (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) initially was slated to fight Jan. 19 at UFC on FX 6 against Caio Magalhaes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who himself was a replacement for Thiago Perpetuo (9-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC).

However, Magalhaes also is injured, so Kuiper now will fight a week later at UFC on FOX 6, where he meets fellow middleweight Buddy Roberts (12-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), UFC officials today announced.

UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26 at United Center in Chicago. The main card, including UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson, airs on FOX. FX and Facebook carry the prelims.

Kuiper vs. Roberts is expected to be part of the prelims.

Dutch prospect Kuiper returns to action after a hard-fought TKO win over Jared Hamman at August's UFC 150 event. That result marked Kuiper's first octagon win after he suffered a decision loss to Rafael Natal in his promotional debut, which spoiled a perfect 11-0 pro record. The 23-year-old Kuiper is a judo black belt but has also shown heavy hands, and 11 of his 12 career wins have come via stoppage.

He now meets the Greg Jackson-trained Roberts, who made his UFC debut earlier this year and earned a submission victory over Magalhaes. That moved his overall win streak to six fights, though the former light heavyweight then suffered a TKO loss to former middleweight title challenger Yushin Okami in a late-notice bout at UFC 150.

The latest UFC on FOX 6 card includes:

MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson - for flyweight title
    Quinton Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira
    Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis
    Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas

PRELIMINARY CARD (FX, 5 p.m. ET)
    T.J. Grant vs. Matt Wiman
    Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki
    Ryan Bader vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
    David Mitchell vs. Simeon Thoresen
    Shawn Jordan vs. Mike Russow
    Pascal Krauss vs. Mike Stumpf

PRELIMINARY CARD (Facebook, 4:30 p.m. ET)
    Magnus Cedenblad vs. Rafael Natal
    Michael Kuiper vs. Buddy Roberts

Buddy Roberts out of UFC on FOX 6 due to illness, mouth injury

A bad case of the flu and an injury sustained in training will keep Buddy Roberts (12-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) out of UFC on FOX 6, sources close to the fighter today told MMAjunkie.

Roberts was slated to meet Michael Kuiper (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on the event's FX-televised preliminary card, which follows prelims on Facebook and a four-fight main card on FOX.

UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26 at United Center in Chicago.

UFC officials could not be reached to confirm Roberts' status, but additional sources close to the promotion said the organization is currently seeking a replacement opponent.

After an unspectacular decision over Caio Magalhaes at UFC on FX 3, Roberts accepted a short-notice fight at UFC 150 against onetime middleweight title contender Yushin Okami. He was defeated by second-round TKO, which snapped a six-fight win streak.

Roberts' originally scheduled octagon debut was ill-fated, as well, with opponent Sean Loeffler bowing out of a fight at UFC on FUEL TV 1 due to an ankle injury suffered during warm-ups.

Kuiper, meanwhile, hopes to build a win streak after a second-round TKO of Jared Hamman at UFC 150, which reversed a decision loss to Rafael Natal in his debut at UFC 143.
