Default Invicta FC 4: Carla Esparza vs. Bec Hyatt

The all-women Invicta Fighting Championships on Friday announced a match to create the company's first strawweight (115 pound) champion between Carlos Esparza (8-2) and Claudio Gadelha (9-0). The bout headlines a Jan. 5 show at the company's home base, Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.

The 23-year-old Gadelha - from Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil - is a three-time world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She's used that as her base in winning six of her first nine fights via submission, all in less than 2:08.

Esparza, two years older, wrestled in both high school and college. The Redondo Beach, Calif., native was an All-American at Menlo College in Menlo Park, Calif, and has beaten Sarah Schneider and Lynn Alvarez via TKO in her previous bouts with the promotion. Esparza's lone career losses are a split decision to highly-ranked Jessica Aguilar, and an armbar loss two years ago to Megumi Fujii, one of the most skilled women fighters in the history of the sport.

The co-main event will pit Shayna Baszler (15-7) against Alexis Davis (12-5) in a bantamweight fight. Baszler, who has 14 submission wins to her credit, finished Sarah D'Alelio via choke on Invicta's last show on Oct. 6. Davis last fought on July 28, submitting Hitomi Akano. Before that, she lost the decision in a war with Sarah Kaufman on March 3, in Columbus, Ohio, that was one of the best fights, male or female, held this year in the Strikeforce cage.

D'Alelio (6-3), an early victim of Ronda Rousey, will face another former Strikeforce fighter, power-puncher Amanda Nunes (7-2) in a bantamweight bout.

Hiroko Yamanaka (12-2), the former Smackgirl champion who was ranked No. 2 in the world as a featherweight one year ago, faces American Top Team member Ediane Gomes (8-2). Yamanaka was the victim of Cris "Cyborg" Santos in the fight where Santos tested positive for Stanazolol.

Also announced for the main card were strawweight fighters Joanne Calderwood of Glasgow, Scotland (4-0) against Bec Hyatt of Brisbane, Australia (4-1). Calderwood started as a Muay Thai champion in Scotland. She earned knockout of the night honors at the Oct. 6 Invicta show for her win over Ashley Cummins.

The final main card bout will have Leslie Smith (4-2-1) in a bantamweight match against an opponent to be named.

The top prelim bout features Stephanie Frausto (4-4), the younger sister of Bellator champion Zoila Frausto Gurgel), against Cassie Rodish (3-3), at atomweight (105 pounds).

Other fights on the show announced were Tamikka Brents (1-0) vs. Amanda Bell (0-0) at featherweight; Jodie Esquibel (2-0) vs. Liz McCarthy (1-0) at atomweight; Emily Kagan (2-0) vs. Rose Namajunas (0-0) at strawweight; and Paige Van Zant (2-0) vs. Tecia Torres (1-0-0) at strawweight.

Invicta FC 4 adds 12th fight, Smith vs. Pennington joins main card

The final fight has been added to Invicta Fighting Championships' next event.

A bantamweight bout between Leslie Smith (4-2-1) and Raquel Pennington (3-2) is the 12th addition to the Invicta FC 4 card, officials today announced.

It's part of the main card of the Jan. 5 event, which is expected to stream at invictafc.com. The event takes place at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.

"Leslie and Raquel have both proven to be ferocious and determined competitors in the Invicta FC cage, so we are excited to be able to match them up against each other and create what should be a barnburner of a fight," Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp stated.

Smith recently scored a second-round TKO victory over Kaitlin Young at Invicta FC 3, which marked a rematch after they fought to a split draw at the promotion's inaugural event. Prior to the two-fight series, the heavy-handed Smith suffered a decision loss to Ediene Gomes.

She now takes on Pennington, who looks to rebound from an Invicta FC 3 submission to loss to veteran Cat Zingano. Prior to the setback, she opened her pro career with a 3-1 mark, which followed a 7-1 record in the amateur ranks.

The full Invicta FC 3 card now includes:

    MAIN CARD (invictafc.com)
Carla Esparza vs. Claudia Gadelha - for inaugural strawweight title
    Shayna Baszler vs. Alexis Davis
    Sarah D'Alelio vs. Amanda Nunes
    Ediane Gomes vs. Hiroko Yamanaka
    Joanne Calderwood vs. Bec Hyatt
    Raquel Pennington vs. Leslie Smith

    PRELIMINARY CARD (Untelevised)
    Katalina Malungahu vs. Veronica Rothenhausler
    Stephanie Frausto vs. Cassie Rodish
    Amanda Bell vs. Tamikka Brents

Injury forces Claudia Gadelha out of Invicta 4 main event

A broken nose suffered in training has forced Claudia Gadelha out of her Invicta 4 main event bout with Carla Esparza, according to Invicta co-owner Shannon Knapp.

Gadelha (9-0) was slated to meet Esparza (8-2) to crown the company's inaugural strawweight champion on Jan. 5 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS.

While a replacement has yet to be named, the plan is still for Torrance, Calif.-based Esparza to headline the card in a 115-pound title fight.

"Claudia broke her nose in five different places and had to have surgery," said Knapp. "I can't name names yet, but we've got a few solid potential replacements to fight Carla."

Knapp also announced a change in Invicta's broadcast team for Jan. 5. Mauro Ranallo is unavailable to announce the show, so Bas Rutten will take his place. Rutten will join Julie Kedzie and "King Mo" Lawal on commentating duties.

weet iemand of germaine de randamie ergens een contract heeft, zie haar graag weer een keer vechten. denk niet dat zij al een contract bij de ufc zal krijgen, maar invicta moet toch interesse in haar hebben.

Hyatt replaces injured Gadelha to headline Invicta FC 4 opposite Esparza

Following an injury to headliner Claudia Gadelha (9-0), Invicta FC has rebooked Bec Hyatt (4-1) to headline its fourth event opposite Carla Esparza (8-2) for the promotion's vacant 115-pound titile.

The promotion announced the change today on its official Twitter account.

Invicta FC 4 takes place Jan. 5 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The event streams live via online pay-per-view at InvictaFC.com.

Hyatt originally was scheduled to meet Joanne Calderwood (4-0), who now meets Team Quest product Livia Von Plettenberg (1-0).

Hyatt, who shares the nickname of UFC women's bantamweight champ "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, enjoys a four-fight win streak following a setback in her pro debut in October 2011.

Despite losses to top-tier fighters Megumii Fuji and Jessica Aguilar under the Bellator banner, Esparza has won her past three bouts, including a first-round TKO over Lynn Alvarez in Invicta's most recent event.

That's also where the undefeated Calderwood handed Ashley Cummins her first professional loss. Plettenberg fights her second pro bout after winning her debut by first-round TKO.
