8 juni Gdansk, KSW 23: Khalidov vs Manhoef

Op 8 juni a.s. zal Melvin Manhoef het opnemen tegen Mamed Khalidov tijdens de KSW 23 gala in Gdansk in Polen. Het gevecht was al eerder gepland in 2012 maar werd toen door een blessure van Manhoef afgezegd.

De fightcard ziet er als volgt uit:

Melvin Manhoef faces one of the hardest opponents of his mixed martial arts career next month as he faces Mamed Khalidov in the headline fight of KSW 23 on June 8.

The event takes place in Gdansk, Poland and Khalidov - a Chechen who was raised in Poland after his family fled civil war - will enjoy considerable home support.

An accomplished grappler and good striker, he is very likely to beat Manhoef by submission because the Dutch powerhouse has never really worked much on his ground game despite dividing his career between kickboxing and MMA.

They were originally set to meet on December 1 but Manhoef suffered an injury and withdrew. Khalidov fought UFC veteran Kendall Grove instead and submitted in round two with a trademark leglock. He is now on a six-fight win streak, while Manhoef is 3-1 in his last four and coming off a loss.

The UFC actually wanted to pick Khalidov up last year but, thanks to KSW’s television exposure in Poland, he is a major star in his homeland and actually makes more money in KSW than he would (initially) in the UFC.

Also on the June 6 card is five-time World’s Strongest Man winner Mariusz Pudzianowski. He is fighting a two-round MMA match against an unnamed opponent. The two-round specification is KSW doing him a favor in response to the cardio difficulties he has evidenced in previous bouts.

Ik hoop dat Melvin wint, als er een man is die veel meer titels verdiend dan die heeft, dan zal dat ongetwijfeld melvin zijn. Hard werker en een vechter in hart en nieren. Wordt een moeilijke pot voor hem, hoop op een k.o. overwinning voor Melvin.

Een Manhoef van 5 jaar geleden had het hem misschien nog moeilijk kunnen maken. Deze partij is snel gebeurd. Hoop dat Khalidov is tegen een gelijkwaardige tegenstander moet. Dat wordt lastig buiten de Ufc.

Zo, da's geen pannekoek die khalidov, 26-4-2 record en wins over o.a. kendal grove, Matt lindland, James Irvin, jorge santiago, prokrajac en Rooney Wallace.

als ik het record zie zou ik zeggen: makkelijke overwinning voor khalidov op submission, maar ik hoop natuurlijk op een vette ko van manhoef
