Ring out, Samman in.
Nick Ring was originally scheduled to take on Uriah Hall at the upcoming UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen event, but MMA Weekly is reporting that the original match-up is off due to an injury suffered by "The Promise."
Stepping in to face Hall will be his fellow season 17 castmate of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Josh Samman, who has agreed to take the fight on short notice. Many viewers of this past season, which was won by Kelvin Gastelum, predicted Hall would face Samman in the finals
The inaugural event on the launching Fox Sports 1 network takes place next month (Aug. 17, 2013) at the TD Garden in Boston.
Hall (7-3) was a member of Team Sonnen on TUF 17, quickly garnering attention for his highlight reel knockouts. The talented striker was a heavy favorite going into the show's finale, but lost a split decision to teammate Gastelum.
Samman (10-2) was part of Team Jones, but lost to eventual winner Gastelum in the semifinal round of the show tournament. He also built up some attention for his devastating double fisted ground and pound attack and defeated Kevin Casey at the TUF 17 Finale.
UFC on Fox Sports 1 #1 features a light heavyweight contest pitting former champion Mauricio Rua against three-time title challenger Chael Sonnen.
