Cole Miller vs. Manny Gamburyan slated for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1

A featherweight bout between Cole Miller (19-7 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and Many Gamburyan (12-7 MMA, 3-5 UFC) is the 13th, and likely final, addition to August's stacked UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 lineup.

    Officials today announced the bout.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 takes place Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. It's the promotion's debut show on the new cable network, which launches the same day.

Miller vs. Gamburyan likely will be part of the Facebook-streamed prelims.

Miller recently recently earned a slick first-round submission victory over Bart Palaszewski at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. "The Ultimate Fighter 15" cast member halted a two-fight losing streak and a 1-3 skid with the much-needed victory, which marked his 14th submission in 19 career wins.

Gamburyan, meanwhile, halted a three-fight losing streak with a decision victory over Michihiro Omigawa. However, the oft-injured fighter and former WEC title challenger hasn't been in action since that August victory after planned matchups with Chad Mendes and Hacran Dias didn't materialize due to various ailments.

The latest UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 card now includes:

MAIN CARD (FOX Sports 1, 8 p.m. ET)
    • Mauricio Rua vs. Chael Sonnen
    • Travis Browne vs. Alistair Overeem
    • Yuri Alcantara vs. Urijah Faber
    • Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown
    • Uriah Hall vs. Nick Ring
    • Michael Johnson vs. Joe Lauzon

PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX Sports 1, 6 p.m. ET)
    • Michael McDonald vs. Brad Pickett
    • Mike Brown vs. Akira Corassani
    • Conor McGregor vs. Andy Ogle
    • Diego Brandao vs. Daniel Pineda

PRELIMINARY CARD (Facebook, 4:30 p.m. ET)
    • Manny Gamburyan vs. Cole Miller
    • Cody Donovan vs. Ovince St. Preux
    • Ramsey Nijem vs. James Vick

Thumbs up UFC Shogun - Sonnen beste card 2013

    Alistair Overeem vs Browne
Nederlands hoop in bange dagen is back with a vengeance.

    Conor McGreggor vs Andy Ogle
A legend in the making? zie bandwagon topic

    Uriah Hall vs Nick Ring

    Diego Brandao vs Daniel Pineda

    Matt Brown vs Thiago Alves

Wordt UFC on Fox Sports 1 geannuleerd?
    State may KO UFC bouts

State red tape could knock out a blockbuster fight card slated for Boston Garden later this summer as government officials are refusing the UFC’s request to relax rules barring foreign-born fighters from hitting the octagon without Social Security numbers.“This law has been in existence since we legalized mixed martial arts in the commonwealth of Mass*achusetts,” said Terrell Harris, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, which regulates prize fighting.
“It’s been brought to the attention of the UFC more than a few times since we legalized the fighting here. But they’ve chosen basically to ignore the law and hope that they could skirt it somehow, Harris said

UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 lineup reportedly in jeopardy due to legal snafu

August's UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 event reportedly could be in trouble due to a legal snafu that affects the card's international fighters.

According to the Boston Herald, the UFC's debut show on the new FOX Sports 1 channel faces issues due to a Massachusetts law that bars foreign-born fighters from competing in the state without Social Security numbers.

That could create problems for the Aug. 17 show, which takes place at TD Garden in Boston. Foreign fighters Mauricio Rua and Alistair Overeem are in the main event and co-main event, respectively fighting Chael Sonnen and Travis Browne, and others are part of the undercard.

The law bars foreign-born fighters from hitting the octagon without Social Security numbers. The Social Security Administration allows fighters to get a temporary number after a 10-day grace period, though even then it's not guaranteed fighters would be cleared for the event.

"This law has been in existence since we legalized mixed martial arts in the commonwealth of Massachusetts," Terrell Harris, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, told the newspaper. "It's been brought to the attention of the UFC more than a few times since we legalized the fighting here. But they've chosen basically to ignore the law and hope that they could skirt it somehow."

Tickets for the show are scheduled to go on sale today. UFC officials haven't yet publicly commented on the situation.

The UFC made its Massachusetts debut in 2010 with UFC 118, a successful show that drew 14,168 attendees and a $2.8 million gate at TD Garden. Foreign fighters such as Demian Maia, Mario Miranda and Andre Winner all competed on the card without issue.

According to the report, Harris said the UFC has petitioned the state for a one-time exception. But state law is clear that officials are prohibited from issuing an MMA license to fighters unless there's proper documentation.

Manager says Massachusetts commission asks impossible for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1

If there is concern over the UFC being able to move forward with its Boston card with the same lineup that has been advertised, fans can perhaps breathe a little easier.

The UFC today went ahead as planned with ticket sales for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which is slated for Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. The promotion issued a press release for ticket sales, which start on Thursday for the general public, but went on sale to UFC Fight Club members earlier today.

As reported earlier today, a story surfaced in the Boston Herald that said some fights on the show could be in jeopardy due to a Massachsetts law that keeps fighters born outside the country from competing without a U.S. Social Security number.

Slated for the card, the UFC's first on the new FOX Sports 1 cable network that debuts the same day, are foreign-born standouts like Mauricio Rua (21-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC), who headlines against Chael Sonnen (27-13-1 MMA, 6-6 UFC), and Alistair Overeem (36-12 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who meets Travis Browne (14-1-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) in the co-main event.

This will not be the UFC's first trip to Massachsetts. UFC 118 took place in Boston in August 2010. Foreign-born fighters competed on that card without issue.

But Terrell Harris, a spokesman for Massachusetts' Depatment of Public Safety, told the Herald: "This law has been in existence since we legalized mixed martial arts in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. It's been brought to the attention of the UFC more than a few times since we legalized the fighting here. But they've chosen basically to ignore the law and hope that they could skirt it somehow."

SuckerPunch Entertainment's Shu Hirata, who manages several foreign fighters and assists them in filing U.S. taxes, told MMAjunkie that the commission should change its regulations to reflect current laws by allowing non-American fighters to submit an individual tax ID number.

"Right now, if you don't live in the U.S., you just cannot get a number anymore," he said. "Instead, you have to get an individual tax ID number. Without the number, you can't file taxes."

Hirata said his fighters fill out a W-7 form and send a copy of their passport to the IRS in order to get the ID number, which gives the IRS a way to track earnings and taxes owed. The process usually takes a month to complete.

Harris wrote that the commission's current laws don't allow fighters to be licensed with individual tax IDs.

"Those are two entirely different numbers issued by the U.S. government and [the Depatment of Public Safety] cannot blatantly disregard the plain language of the law," Hirata told MMAjunkie.com.

UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner told MMAFighting that the promotion is working on getting visas updated for all the foreign fighters on the card. The visa would allow them to get a social security number, which would allow the summer fight card to stay intact.

The UFC’s return to Boston is no longer in jeopardy.

According to UFC President Dana White, company officials have “straightened out” issues regarding foreign-born fighters without Social Security numbers being unable to compete on the Aug. 17 UFC on Fox Sports 1 card.

The fight promoter spoke with BostonHerald.com in a story published today, Sunday, and ensured that the Massachusetts state law disallowing fighters without proper documentation from licensure is no longer a problem.

“The fights will happen,” White told the newspaper’s website. “We ended up getting everything straightened out.”

As reported by GRACIEMAG.com, the UFC initially attempted overcoming this hurdle by asking the state’s Department of Public Safety (DPS), the government body overseeing the event, by asking for a one-time exception to the law. Terrell Harris, a spokesman for the DPS, told the Herald that no such exception would be given, and that the UFC is bound to the same rules as any other promotion looking to feature MMA contests in the state.

“This law has been in existence since we legalized mixed martial arts in the commonwealth of Massachusetts,” Harris said weeks prior. “It’s been brought to the attention of the UFC more than a few times since we legalized the fighting here. But they’ve chosen basically to ignore the law and hope that they could skirt it somehow.”

Due to the law, the UFC would have to consider alternative locations to host the card if steps to securing the necessary documents for their fighters weren’t taken. White, however, said his company has faced problems like this in the past. Although they considered moving the card’s location, White said, the UFC’s immigration department made it so they wouldn’t have to do such a thing.

“When that starts happening, it’s like ‘Yeah, maybe we can’t do the fight here,’” White said. “But, you know, we figured it out.”

UFC on Fox Sports 1 #1 takes place at Boston’s TD Garden, and features a main event between Brazil’s Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Chael Sonnen.
