Default UFC Fight Night 28: Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira

Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga targeted for UFC on FOX Sports 1 3

A flyweight matchup between perennial contender Joseph Benavidez (18-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Brazilian submission ace Jussier Formiga (15-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is reportedly the first bout set for September's UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 event.

The booking of top-10 contestants was today reported by Brazilian outlet Globo.com, though UFC officials have yet to make an announcement.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 in Brazil. UFC officials have yet to announce a venue for the card, but Globo.com reports that Belo Horizonte, which hosted UFC 147, and Porto Alegre are currently the leading candidates to serve as host city.

Benavidez, who's currently ranked No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA flyweight rankings, brings a two-fight win streak to the cage and is 6-1 in his past seven fights. The lone loss during that run came in a failed bid to win the inaugural UFC flyweight title in a September 2012 bout with current champ Demetrious Johnson.

Meanwhile, Formiga sits at No. 6 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA flyweight rankings. The 28-year-old grappling ace is also 6-1 in his past seven fights, with the one loss coming in his UFC debut against "The Ultimate Fighter 14" winner John Dodson. Formiga has since rebounded with a decision win over Chris Cariaso at this past May's UFC on FX 8 event, which also took place in Brazil.

No other bouts have been reported for the event.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 targets Belo Horizonte, Teixeira-Bader, 'Jacare'-Okami

The UFC's third event on FOX Sports 1 will reportedly take place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and a pair of high-profile contests are apparently targeted for the evening's main card.

The UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 main event will reportedly see light heavyweights Glover Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and Ryan Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) face off, while middleweight action sees Yushin Okami (29-7 MMA) face Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC).

The targeted location and bookings were first reported by Brazilian outlet Portal do Vale Tudo. MMAjunkie has since confirmed the likely plans with multiple sources close to the event, though UFC officials have yet to make any formal announcements.

Teixeira and Bader were actually expected to fight this past May at UFC 160. However, Bader suffered an injury in training and was replaced by James Te Huna, who was submitted by Teixeira in the first round of the contest.

Teixeira now boasts an incredible 19-fight win streak and a perfect 4-0 mark in the UFC. Meanwhile, Bader looks to build on the strength of a January win over Vladimir Matyushenko. The much-needed result for Bader helped reduce the sting of a devastating knockout loss to Lyoto Machida this past August.

Okami returns to Brazil to fight for the first time since a failed August 2011 bud to unseat middleweight champ Anderson Silva. Okami actually lost his next fight, as well, in a disappointing result against Tim Boetsch but has since bounced back with victories over Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher and Buddy Roberts.

Meanwhile, former Strikeforce champ Souza returns to action after a successful UFC debut at May's UFC on FX 8 event. It was the submission specialist's fourth straight victory, and he's now 8-1 in his past nine overall fights. Following that win, UFC President Dana White revealed he was already working on a Souza-Okami matchup.

The UFC first visited Belo Horizonte, the sixth-most populous city in Brazil in June 2012 for "UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II."

Rafael Natal vs. Tor Troeng added to UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 in Brazil

A middleweight matchup between Rafael "Sapo" Natal (16-4-1 MMA, 4-2-1 UFC) and "The Ultimate Fighter 17" contestant Tor Troeng (16-4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is the latest addition to September's UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 event in Brazil.

UFC officials today announced the new contest, one of several to be added to the card.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC's second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012.

Natal debuted in 2010 and went winless in his first two octagon appearances. However, he's since bounced back with four wins in his past five appearances, including wins over Joao Zeferino , Sean Spencer, Michael Kuiper and Paul Bradley sandwiched around a knockout loss to Andrew Craig.

Meanwhile, Troeng was a member of Team Sonnen on "TUF 17" but was ousted in the first round after suffering a knockout loss to Josh Samman. He was invited to fight in his native Sweden at April's UFC on FUEL TV 9 event, where he scored a first-round submission win over Adam Cella. Troeng now boasts an official five-fight win streak.

With the addition to the card, the UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 lineup now includes:

    • Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira
    • Yushin Okami vs. Ronaldo Souza
    • Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga
    • Sean Spencer vs. Yuri Villefort
    • Ali Bagautinov vs. Marcos Vinicius
    • Godofredo Pepey vs. Sam Sicilia

T.J. Dillashaw meets Raphael Assuncao at UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 in Brazil

Team Alpha Male's September trip to Brazil has increased by one for a key matchup at bantamweight.

T.J. Dillashaw (8-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has been booked for a bout against Raphael Assuncao (20-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) when the UFC returns to Belo Horizonte for UFC on FOX Sports 1 3. Globo first reported the news, though UFC officials have yet to make a formal announcement.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC's second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012.

Dillashaw joins teammate Joseph Benavidez, who fights Jussier Formiga at flyweight, as Team Alpha Male fighters on the card in Brazil. Dillashaw will be going after his fifth straight win, and his most recent three fights have been by stoppage. The "TUF 14" runner-up has not lost since the TUF 14 Finale to John Dodson. After that, he has rattled off a decision win over Walel Watson, a submission of Vaughan Lee and knockouts of Issei Tamura and Hugo Viana, the latter coming in the first round at UFC on FOX 7 in April.

Assuncao, from Brazil, also will be looking for his fifth straight win in the division after a drop from featherweight. Assuncao started his career 15-1, including two wins in the WEC before being submitted by Dillashaw teammate Urijah Faber at WEC 46. That started a stretch of three losses in four fights, including a knockout setback in his UFC debut, his last fight at 145 pounds. Since then, the Georgia-based fighter has wins over Johnny Eduardo, Tamura, Mike Easton and Lee – with Tamura and Lee being common opponents between him and Dillashaw.

Assuncao is ranked No. 9 and Dillashaw No. 12 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA bantamweight rankings.

With the addition to the card, the UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 lineup now includes:

    • Ryan Baderbvs. Glover Teixeira
    • Yushin Okami vs. Ronaldo Souza
    • Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga
    • Raphael Assuncao vs. T.J. Dillashaw
    • Sean Spencer vs. Yuri Villefort

Keith Wisniewski vs. Marcelo Guimares set for UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 in Brazil

The UFC's September trip to Brazil continues to grow at a rapid pace, this time with the addition of a welterweight bout.

Keith Wisniewski (28-14-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC) will return after more than 16 months on the sideline to take on Marcelo Guimares (8-1-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX Sports 1 3. Sources close to the fighting booking confirmed the matchup to mmajunkie following an initial report from UOL Esporte. UFC officials also made the fight official Saturday afternoon.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC's second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012.

Wisniewski most recently fought at UFC 145 in April 2012, where he dropped a close split decision to Chris Clements in what was an early "Fight of the Night" candidate. The Indiana native, who runs the Duneland Vale Tudo camp that features the likes of UFC featherweight Darren Elkins and upcoming interim bantamweight title challenger Eddie Wineland, returned to the UFC on a six-fight win streak in 2011, but was stopped after two rounds by Josh Neer when a cageside doctor wouldn't let him continue from a cut.

Wisniewski debuted in the UFC in 2005 and dropped a unanimous decision to Nick Thompson at UFC 56. His resume includes notable wins over Jorge Santiago, Eddie Sanchez, Chris Wilson, Pete Spratt and two over Carlo Prater.

Guimares brought an unbeaten record into his UFC debut a year ago after fighting exclusively in his native Brazil. He picked up a split decision win over Dan Stittgen at UFC on FUEL TV 4. But in March at UFC on FUEL TV 8 in Japan, the former Jungle Fight champion was stopped with a second-round knockout by Hyun Gyu Lim thanks to a knee. He'll be looking to rebound from that first career loss against Wisniewski.

With the addition to the card, the UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 lineup now includes:

    • Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira
    • Yushin Okami vs. Ronaldo Souza
    • Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga
    • Raphael Assuncao vs. T.J. Dillashaw
    • Sean Spencer vs. Yuri Villefort
    • Ali Bagautinov vs. Marcos Vinicius

Kenny Robertson out, Elias Silverio in vs. Joao Zeferino at UFC Fight Night 28

Another injury has shuffled UFC Fight Night 28's card.

Welterweight Kenny Robertson (12-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from the card due to injury, and Elias Silverio (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been tapped to meet Joao Zeferino (13-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on the event's preliminary card, which streams on Facebook prior to main-card fights on FOX Sports 1.

UFC Fight Night 28 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

As of Friday afternoon, the UFC had yet to confirm the welterweight switch-up, which Brazilian website Combate first reported.

The undefeated Silverio makes his debut four months after a decision over Junior Orgulho in Brazil's Jungle Fight promotion, where he fought half of his career.

Zeferino, meanwhile, returns after a unanimous decision loss to Rafael Natal in his UFC debut at UFC on FX 8 in May. The loss snapped a seven-fight win streak in Brazil's regional circuit.

Robertson lost a majority decision to Sean Pierson in his most recent octagon appearance at UFC 161, which followed a "Submission of the Night" win over Brock Jardine at UFC 157. He is 1-3 in the UFC after a TKO loss to Mike Pierce in his debut.

Ivan Jorge replaces Marcelo Guimaraes at UFC Fight Night 28

Next month's UFC Fight Night 28 event in Brazil has a late change.

Marcelo Guimaraes suffered an elbow injury and has been forced out of a welterweight bout with Keith Wisniewski (28-14-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC), and promotional newcomer and Jungle Fight lightweight champion Ivan Jorge (24-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will move up a weight class and serve as a replacement, according to Globo's SporTV.

UFC Fight Night 28 takes place Sept. 4 at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte. The six-fight main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on Facebook.

Jorge vs. Wisniewski is slated for the prelim stream.

Jorge, nicknamed "Batman," enters the UFC on the strength of a six-fight winning streak with 10 victories in his past 11 fights. All of the Brazilian's wins have come via submission. In June the 32-year-old used a first-round rear-naked choke to tap out Lucio Abreu and win the Jungle Fight belt.

Meanwhile, in 2011 Wisniewski put together a six-fight winning streak to earn his way back to UFC, where he fought once in 2005 and suffered a decision loss to Nick Thompson. However, following a TKO loss to Josh Neer and a split-decision defeat to Chris Clements, he's still in search of his first UFC win. The 31-year-old Indianan fights for the first time in 2013 after competing just once in 2012.

The latest UFC Fight Night 28 card now includes:

MAIN CARD (FOX Sports 1, 8 p.m. ET)
    • Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira
    • Yushin Okami vs. Ronaldo Souza
    • Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga
    • Piotr Hallmann vs. Francisco Trinaldo
    • Rafael Natal vs. Tor Troeng
    • Ali Bagautinov vs. Marcos Vinicius

With Johnny Bedford out at UFC Fight Night 28, Hugo Viana awaits new opponent

Bantamweight Johnny Bedford (19-10 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has withdrawn from a planned UFC Fight Night 28 appearance, and opponent Hugo Viana (7-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) now awaits a new foe.

Bedford suffered a shoulder injury in training and was forced to withdraw from the bout. A timetable for his return wasn't immediately established.

Featuring a light-heavyweight headliner between Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader, UFC Fight Night 28 takes place Sept. 4 at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The evening's main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following preliminary bouts that stream on Facebook.

The Bedford vs. Viana fight was scheduled for the evening's preliminary card.

Bedford was looking to rebound from his first loss in the UFC, which snapped a three-fight win streak. At UFC 159 in Newark, N.J., in April, Bryan Caraway submitted Bedford with a third-round guillotine choke with just 16 seconds left in the fight. Ultimately, Caraway received a "Submission of the Night" bonus for his efforts. Bedford, a contestant on Season 14 of "The Ultimate Fighter," had won his first two official fights in the UFC with stoppages of Louis Gaudinot and Marcos Vinicius.

"Wolverine" Viana, part of the first season of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil," was stopped by T.J. Dillashaw with a first-round TKO at UFC on FOX 7 in April for the first loss of his professional career. His first two official UFC fights were wins John Teixeira at UFC 147 and a knockout of Reuben Duran at the TUF 16 Finale.

The UFC Fight Night 28 lineup currently includes:

    MAIN CARD
    • Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira
    • Yushin Okami vs. Ronaldo Souza
    • Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga
    • Piotr Hallmann vs. Francisco Trinaldo
    • Rafael Natal vs. Tor Troeng
    • Ali Bagautinov vs. Marcos Vinicius

    PRELIMINARY CARD
    • Hugo Viana vs. opponent TBA
    • Felipe Arantes vs. Edimilson Souza
    • Elias Silverio vs. Joao Zeferino
    • Ramiro Hernandez vs. Lucas Martins
    • Ivan Jorge vs. Keith Wisniewski

Hugo Viana vs. Wilson Reis pulled from Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 28 lineup

A bantamweight bout between Wilson Reis (16-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Hugo Viana (7-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has been pulled from Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 28 lineup.

UFC officials formally removed the bout from the card over the weekend following Viana's announcement of a knee injury.

A replacement won't be sought, and the event will continue with 11 bouts.

UFC Fight Night 28 takes at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The evening's main card and select preliminary-card bouts air on FOX Sports 1 following a lone prelim on Facebook.

Reis, a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, former EliteXC champion and four-time Bellator tournament competitor, was expected to make his UFC debut at the event after he replaced injured Johnny Bedford.

Viana, who was part of the first season of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil," won his first two UFC fights but looked to rebound from his first pro loss, which came to T.J. Dillashaw in April.

    • Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira
