Glory Sports International Acquires Rights To K-1 Video Library

Addition of K-1 Trove Makes GSI World's Largest Archive Holder of Elite and Professional Kickboxing Programming GLORY Sports International has acquired the rights to the significant majority of K-1 programming, one of the best-known kickboxing promotions in the history of the sport. This new acquisition brings the total number of kickboxing programming hours under GSI's control to nearly 3,000. GSI is a content producer itself, providing programming to over 170 territories. GSI recently secured a major television distribution deal in*the United States*with SPIKE TV (a unit of Viacom), with the first event set to premiere on*Saturday, October 12, 2013; Glory 11 Chicago will be LIVE in prime time from Hoffman Estates' Sears Centre at*9 pm Eastern Time.Scott Rudmann, non-executive Director of GLORY, said, "We are delighted to have successfully acquired the Fuji TV portion of the K-1 catalog and to bring most of the historic K-1 footage into the GLORY library."Specifically, GLORY has acquired these rights from the bankruptcy of FEG, the former K-1 promoter in*Japan. The rights package comprises the K-1 events that were broadcast by Fuji TV in*Japan, and includes the K-1 Grand Prix Finals from locations all over the world dating from 1993 – 2006 and beyond.The K-1 footage complements GLORY's existing library, which includes the catalogs for It's Showtime, Nikko, United Glory and GLORY-produced programming and live events. These historical bouts are now all under the GLORY brand umbrella.Andrew Whitaker, Chief Executive, GLORY Sports International, added, "With the coming debut of GLORY programming on SPIKE TV and national US television exposure, fight fans will soon see why GLORY is the hottest new story in combat sports."

Volgens mij had K-1 de rechten helemaal niet maar Fuji-TV dus K-1 verdient helemaal niks aan de deal. Laten we zeggen dat de beelden van K-1 tot 2006 "foetsie" zijn...

EIJING, Sept. 19, 2013 — Yesterday a statement was issued by GLORY Sports International in regards to the purchase of certain parts of K-1’s archive footage. K-1 Global insists that the copyright to this footage does in fact belong to K-1 Global, as per the original agreements in which the K-1 archives and trademarks were transferred to K-1 Global in 2012.In 2012 K-1 Global acquired the rights to the K-1 video library that FEG owned, as well as the Japanese K-1 trademark that was controlled by a third party for around $7 million. K-1 Global also purchased the trademarks for the rest of the world for an undisclosed price from K-1 founder Kazuyoshi Ishii and his group. These deals have all been finalized.
After the deal with Mr. Ishii was finalized, FEG declared bankruptcy in Japan and a lawyer was appointed as a controller for the bankrupted company. This new controller of FEG insisted that FEG still had the copyrights of the K-1 archive footage in their control and sold the “Use Right” of the K-1 archives for an approximate amount of $140,000. K-1 Global had warned FEG’s new controller that K-1 Global does indeed own the rights to this library, but FEG’s new controller refused to listen and went through with the sale.
Now the bankrupted FEG has sold the “Use Right” for $140,000, much less than what K-1 Global initially paid for it, as a nuisance to K-1 Global and to publicly embarrass the company. Essentially, FEG has sold the footage twice now, although it was initially to K-1 Global for a much higher sum. At this time, the bankrupted FEG has sold footage that it no longer owns to GLORY Sports International. K-1 Global has no option right now but to bring this matter to court.
