Default Anderson Silva Leg break latest news

UFC Quick Quote: Jon Jones urges 'idol' Anderson Silva to retire after two 'flukish losses'

    By Thomas Myers @TommyMyers on Feb 4 2014, 10:00p 29

"Here I am, on the road again; There I am, up on the stage; Here I go, playin' star again; There I go ..."

“It was just sad. I know how long Anderson Silva’s been working to be who he is. I’ve won several world titles, this guy’s won like 12, 13. That’s a lot of work. To see such a magnificent career and legacy get tarnished by two losses, two kind of flukish losses – I wouldn’t call the first one a fluke – it sucks. It leaves a weird taste in your mouth, like it’s not supposed to end that way. What I’m hoping is that people remember Anderson for all the magnificent things he’s done, and all the lives he’s touched, and all the people he’s inspired, and I’m hoping that Anderson just stays away from the sport and continues to be an inspiration outside of the Octagon.... Not fight again. Anderson can do seminars, he can do motivational speaking, he can help all the kids in Brazil, I mean he’s such an idol. His greatness has just begun, but I think in the Octagon, I think it’s been already fun.”
-- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is confident former Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, will return to the Octagon before 2014 expires. Ringside announcer, Joe Rogan, has urged the legendary Brazilian striking sensation to take his time. Meanwhile, his contemporary, Jon Jones, recently told "Lavar and Dukes" radio show (106.7) that he wants "The Spider" to just retire from the sport, a sentiment that Silva's son also shares after watching his father shatter his shin (see photos here) in a UFC 168 rematch with Chris Weidman in Dec. 2013. Silva? He wants to return to combat sports once he is healthy, but would rather ease into things with a boxing match against Roy Jones Jr., a tired narrative that White just wants to disappear forever. Silva, who will turn 39 years old in a few months, is still in the midst of a grueling recovery -- there really is no concrete timetable for his return. However, despite back-to-back losses to "All American," one has to wonder what motivation Silva would have to rush back to competition regardless. Indeed, Jones is onto something -- it certainly "sucks" that his career could end this way, but -- all things considered -- there are worse ways to go out than just two "flukish" losses. Is it time for Silva, and UFC, to just turn the page? "Bones" certainly has.

Morning Report: Joe Rogan wary of quick turnaround for Anderson Silva, says there is real danger of leg breaking again

    By David St. Martin @SaintMMA on Feb 4 2014, 8:01a 39
    Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

While we all enjoy the candor of UFC president Dana White, commentator Joe Rogan takes the cake when it comes to leaving the censors at the door. Unlike White, who remains ever faithful we'll see former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva make his return this calendar year, Rogan is perhaps more realistic. On Dec. 28, 2013 at UFC 168, Silva suffered a gruesome leg injury during the second round of his title bout with Chris Weidman, breaking both the tibia and fibula of his left leg.
Speaking with SiriusXM's The Opie & Anthony Show, Rogan isn't putting high hopes on such a quick turnaround:
"Maybe. Dana's a promoter," says Rogan. "He wants [Silva] to fight by the end of the year. Anderson wants to fight, too, but there's a real danger of that thing breaking again. You've got to make sure that it's completely healed up before you check it again. [Opponents] are going to do the exact same thing. Anybody who fights Anderson is going to practice checking kicks like a mother f***er.
"Guys have come back in other sports, but those other sports are very different. They don't involve purposefully trying to break your bones."
White reaffirmed his belief that Silva would, indeed, be returning by years end in an update during Saturday night's UFC 169 post-fight press conference.
"Anderson should be walking without crutches here in the next couple weeks, then he'll start training in a few months. We've got to see how he comes back. He is 100% confident that he's coming back.
"He probably won't fight until the end of the year. If everything goes the way that it should, he should be fighting in pretty much the same fight he had this last year."
