Glory 16: Karapet v.s. de Bonte

Nieky ‘The Natural’ Holzken (84-11, 44 KO’s) is out of his GLORY 16 DENVER fight for the World Welterweight Championship.
Holzken was due to face the accomplished Muay Thai stylist Marc De Bonte (86-11-1, 28 KO’s) in the inaugural welterweight title fight but lingering injuries from a recent car crash have forced him into taking a break.
“On January 6 I suffered some injury in a car accident. That was why I wasn’t able to fight at GLORY 14 ZAGREB in March as originally planned,” says Holzken.
“I have been having some shoulder trouble and I have been trying to get around it by fighting mostly in southpaw stance, because I can fight from both stances.
“But it became too painful and when I went for an MRI scan they said there is still signs of damage. I was told that I need to rest my shoulder or face the possibility of ending my career early.”
De Bonte remains in the fight. Holzken has been replaced by Karapet Karapetyan (43-9-2, 4 KO’s). The relentless Armenian welterweight most recently had seen using his machine-gun technical combinations to outclass the Ukrainian standout Artur Kyshenko at GLORY 14 ZAGREB.
Karapetyan lost a decision to Holzken in December during the GLORY 13 TOKYO tournament. De Bonte is coming off a superb first-round KO of the highly-regarded L'houcine Ouzgni by way of a knee strike at GLORY 6.
“I will take a few months off to heal and then I will be back. I am very disappointed but there is nothing I can do except try to get back in action as fast as possible,” says Holzken.
“In the meantime I wish Marc De Bonte and Karapet Karapetyan the best of luck and I look forward to fighting the winner on my return.”
GLORY 16 DENVER takes place on Saturday May 3 at the 1ST BANK CENTER in Denver, Colorado.
This coming Saturday April 12, GLORY touches down in Istanbul, Turkey.
GLORY 15 ISTANBUL features a four-man Light-Heavyweight Championship Tournament between Tyrone Spong (90-5, 60 KO’s), Gokhan Saki (79-16, 56 KO’s), Nathan ‘Carnage’ Corbett (57-4, 45 KO’s) and Saulo Cavalari (28-2, 18 KO’s).The winner will emerge with the GLORY Light-Heavyweight World Title. The event airs in the US on SPIKE TV at 9pm ET and will air in over 150 territories worldwide.

Niks ten nadele van de Bonte en hoop ook dat hij deze wedstrijd wint en de titel pakt alleen voor mij is hij pas echt de beste als hij hem verdedigd door Nieky te verslaan want moet toch eerlijk zeggen dat op dit moment Nieky heer en meester is in deze klasse maar goed laten we Bonte op z'n minst de kans geven en met deze partij kunnen we heel goed zien waar hij staat.

Nieky vs Marc was de partij die iedereen wilde zien, allebei zijn het namelijk topboksers. En allebei zijn ze ook SERIEUS met het boksen bezig. Juist daarom was het zo leuk geweest om het te zien
