GLORY -- the world's leading kickboxing promotion -- announced during the GLORY 15 broadcast that GLORY "Last Man Standing" 8-man middleweight tournament will immediately follow GLORY 17 on June 21 in Los Angeles.
ISTANBUL -- Earlier on Saturday (April 12, 2014), GLORY announced it would be headed to The Forum in Los Angeles, Calif., on June 21. During the GLORY 15 broadcast (results here), the kickboxing promotion revealed its first foray into pay-per-view (PPV), called "Last Man Standing" featuring an 8-man middleweight championship tournament, one that would immediately follow the GLORY 17 Spike TV broadcast.
GLORY has only confirmed six of the eight tournament participants.
Here they are:
Joe Schilling: The American Muay Thai fighter won the GLORY 10: "Chicago" middleweight tournament by defeating Kengo Shimizu and upsetting the No. 1-ranked middleweight Artem Levin. Lost to Wayne Barrett at GLORY 12 in New York. He is now 21-6 overall.
Simon Marcus: The Canadian is newly signed to GLORY and boasts an incredible 39-0-1 record. He has notable wins over Artem Levin at Lion Fight 9 and the No. 2-ranked Joe Schilling at Lion Fight 6.
Wayne Barrett: The No. 3-ranked GLORY middleweight is only 4-0 in his young career, but he put himself on the map with a huge upset unanimous decision victory over the heavily favored Joe Schilling at GLORY 12 in New York.
Bogdan Stoica: "The Bucharest Bad Boy" from Romania is the younger brother of GLORY light heavyweight Andrei Stoica. He is 38-5 and has made a name for himself in the SUPERKOMBAT promotion and is known for flying knees and axe kicks.
Alex Pereira: A Brazilian kickboxer with a staggering 80" reach and a 33-4 record, Pereira defeated Dustin Jacoby and Sahak Parparyan to win the GLORY 14: "Zagreb" contender tournament to earn his way into GLORY "Last Man Standing."
Melvin Manhoef: A combat sports legend, the 37-year-old fighter is 37-11 with 27 KO's in kickboxing and 27-11-1 (1 NC) with 25 KO's in mixed martial arts (MMA). He has fought for K-1, Rings, Strikeforce, DREAM and the Its SHOWTIME promotions, among others. Manhoef is on a four-fight losing streak in kickboxing.
