Showtime analyst Paulie Malignaggi believes that the main reason why Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) and his team have been dragging their feet in the negotiations with Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) in the past is because they feel that it’s a fight that they can’t win.

Malignaggi says that with Mayweather being the A-side and Pacquiao clearly being the B-side in the negotiations then Pacquiao and his team should be willing to agree to whatever terms that Mayweather lays out. In other words, if Pacquiao and his team really wants the fight against Mayweather then they should be willing to accept the deal that’s offered to them.

Malignaggi notes that Pacquiao won’t get a great deal, but then again he doesn’t deserve a great deal considering that he’s now bringing in one-third of the pay-per-view numbers that Mayweather is bringing in.

If Pacquiao wants a better deal, then he needs to beat Mayweather and then get a better deal in the rematch when they start negotiations. But Malignaggi feels that Pacquiao’s team isn’t confident in his chances against Mayweather, which is why he feels they want more money than they as the B-side deserve.

“You cannot tell me Mayweather is not the A side in this fight. He’s undefeated, he’s been a champion longer, and he hasn’t been knocked out obviously because he’s undefeated,” Malignaggi said via thaboxingvoice. “Pacquiao in this case is delivered as the B side. When you’re the B side you come in as the underdog. You have no say in the negotiations. You take what they give you, and you sign the contract. Floyd is the A side, he calls the shots. They are so adamant about [Mayweather’s demands] because they know they won’t win the fight, and it won’t be competitive.”

I totally agree with Malignaggi. Pacquiao and his team should be willing to agree to whatever purse split that Mayweather offers in order for them to get the fight. If Mayweather offers a 70-30 or 75-25 purse split, then Pacquiao and his team should be open to accepting those terms if they want the fight. With Mayweather bringing in the bigger pay-per-view numbers recently and with him having the unbeaten record, he’s clearly the A-side in the negotiations. He doesn’t really need to face Pacquiao unless he’s getting the lion’s share of the money. But if Pacquiao’s management are going to try and hold out for a better deal then I don’t see how the fight can get made, because Mayweather understands that he’s the A-side and he’s not likely to accept a 60-40 purse split or better for a fight against Pacquiao. The two fighters appear to be going in different directions right now with Pacquiao’s pay-per-view numbers sliding and Mayweather’s remaining strong.

Ik geloof pas dat het gevecht plaatsvindt wanneer ik ze in de ring zie staan en de bel voor ronde 1 luidt.

Ik denk het wel aangezien beide types zijn die tegen de beste willen vechten. Volgens de la hoya zijn de onderhandelingen al bezig maar Cotto wilt graag in New York vechten en Canelo in Vegas.

Dat zou, op Floyd vs Manny na, toch wel een van de grootste gevechten zijn op dit moment. Kijk graag naar beide vechters maar heb ook een lichte voorkeur voor Cotto.

Zou echt mooi zijn. Ik ben alleen wel benieuwd naar hoe HBO en Showtime het dan gaan oplossen. Beiden hebben geloof ik exclusieve contracten dus, behalve als HBO en Showtime willen samenwerken, hebben zowel Manny als Floyd het niet in eigen hand.

Ik denk dat het gevecht wel gaat komen nu de hype is groter dan paar jaar geleden, ik hoop dat het geen anticlimax wordt.

Als hij dit doet en Floyd komt weer met excuses, dan is het duidelijk dat Floyd niet wil!

Wat Floyd zegt in bovenstaande komt logisch over. Dus kijken of Floyd ook gaat handelen naar wat hij zegt!

Floyd Mayweather spoke with Showtime's Steve Farhood tonight during a show he was promoting in San Antonio, and was asked specifically about Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather didn't hold back, saying he wants that fight for May 2, but also noting that the prior money offer of $40 million for Pacquiao is no longer there.

Dat zou de beste card sinds de jaren '90 zijn. Canelo, Martinez, Matthysse, Cotto, Golovkin. Twee van deze vijf tegen elkaar en dan Mayweather Pacquiao

Al Haymon runt Floyd's carriere voor een groot deel. Wees niet zo naief om Floyd's stoere praatjes te geloven. Floyd is niet zo slim als men zou denken, hij heeft gewoon ontzettend slimme mensen zoals Haymon en Ellerbe achter zich die veel zakelijke aspecten voor hem hebben geregeld.
overigens zijn Floyd's checks afkomstig van Golden Boy en niet van Mayweather promotions.

Volgens mij zei ik ook nergens dat Manny meer controle heeft. Ik zei dat die praatjes van Floyd dat hij baas boven baas is en zelf alles bepaalt blablabla simpelweg niet waar is.

Haymond en Ellerbe zijn Floyd's 'advisors'. Kortom, hij checkt alles na met hen, kijkt of zij het ook een goed idee vinden en als zij groen licht geven kan Floyd beginnen met zijn praatjes. Niks mis mee hoor, iedere top sporter heeft zulke mensen achter zich maar Floyd houdt er gewoon van als zijn ego gestreeld wordt. Nogmaals, zijn checks zijn afkomstig van Golden Boy promotions. Als iemand anders jouw checks voor je ondertekent ben je niet baas boven baas lijkt me toch?!

Ellerbe is z'n manager die geeft hem advies en regelt het geld. Al Haymon is net als Cameron Dunkin die gevechten regelt als manager maar hij is niet de baas. Floyd krijgt z'n check niet van Golden Boy maar van Showtime/CBS daar heeft die contract mee gesloten. Golden Boy zit vast aan Showtime en Top Rank zit vast aan HBO/Time Warner
