Is het niet wat om een wereldwijde crowdfunding op te zetten voor dit gevecht?:P
Ik zou zo 100 euro neertellen, om het evenement uberhaupt te laten gebeuren.
Als er nou nog een miljoen mensen dat doen...

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya says he’d have a talk with his willful fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to try and persuade him to move off the May 2nd fight date next year if the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr mega-fight gets made for that date.

That’s a big if right now because Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum recently said that the May 2nd date belonged to Canelo because of him being Mexican and that fight date falling on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo.

“Obviously if Mayweather-Pacquiao happens it would be my obligation to go and talk to Canelo and maybe, kind of convince him to move out of that date,” De La Hoya said. “But this kid is determined, and he wants to fight Cinco De Mayo.”

I don’t think Canelo would be too happy if De La Hoya were to cave in and try to move him off the date just because Mayweather and Pacquiao were to fight on that date. Canelo seems resistant to moving off that date regardless of the situation.

In other words, he might just be willing to steer his fight against Miguel Cotto into a cliff by stubbornly sticking it out on the May 2nd date even though it would likely mean that the fight would wind up with far fewer pay-per-view buys than it would if Canelo would agree to move to a different date that Pacquiao and Mayweather aren’t fighting.

If Canelo refuses to move off the May 2nd date, he could wind up as his own worst enemy in sabotaging his own fight against Cotto. If Cotto is willing to go along the 24-year-old instead of being the voice of reason and using his age to see things clearly, he go down with Canelo with their fight losing massive amounts of pay-per-view buys.

Canelo would likely be happy if De La Hoya was willing to still support his fight Cotto with the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight taking place on the same date, because it would be a sign that De La Hoya was firmly behind the red-haired Canelo. But if De La Hoya just blindly does that without talking sense to Canelo then he’ll not be doing his job as a promoter.

Ultimately whether the Cotto-Canelo or the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight takes place on May 2nd could be determined by Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum. If he decides he’d rather have the Cotto-Canelo fight take place on that date then he can definitely block the more lucrative Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight in order to make that happen.

let maar op dat die arum het weer gaat verpesten, en dan maar janken dat mayweather zogenaamd ducked.

In a sign that Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum may not fully understand that Pacquiao is the B-side of the equation for a Floyd Mayweather Jr fight, Arum says he wants a fight between them to take place in either April or June of 2015, but not on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo on May 2nd.
Arum says the May 2nd date is for Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who just happens to be in negotiations with one of Arum’s fighters Miguel Cotto. Arum thinks that it’s wrong for Mayweather to be looking to fight on a Mexican holiday because he personally sees it as disrespectful to the Mexican people.

Cotto isn’t Mexican, and it’s unclear what Arum’s excuses are for him fighting on the Mexican holiday. Is it okay for non-Mexican fighters to fight on the Mexican holiday as long as they’re fighting Mexican fighters?
“April or June would be fine for that fight (Mayweather vs. Pacquiao),” Arum said via the Telegraph.co.uk. “What difference does it make?”
I’m not sure that Arum understands that Mayweather always fights on the Mexican holidays. For him to be saying that Mayweather shouldn’t fight on the Mexican holiday now just when he’s showing interest in fighting Pacquiao, Arum could very well get in the way of the fight taking place.

Arum’s fighter Pacquiao has been talking for ages about wanting to fight Mayweather, and now that he has the fight staring him in the face, Arum could wind up blowing his chances of getting that fight by acting like he’s calling the shots. Does Arum want the Mayweather fight for his fighter Pacquiao or not? If not, he’s doing a good job of driving Mayweather away by not agreeing to the May 2nd date that he wants for the fight.
The Canelo-Cotto fight is a nice little fight, but it’s not a fight that will bring in monster pay-per-view numbers. We are talking about a couple of fighters that have brought in recently a little over 300,000 pay-per-view buys when they were the A-side on pay-per-view cards. What does Arum expect a fight between them will bring? I get the picture that Arum is expecting a goldmine from a mine that is already played out and given the only gold that was in there.
“Everybody agrees with that, except Mayweather. He is putting his ego before respect for people,” Arum said. “I think it’s disrespectful to the Mexican people not to have Canelo fight on their holiday. I see Mayweather as poaching on a Mexican holiday and being disrespectful to the Mexican people.”

Canelo can fight on the Mexican holiday if the cable providers choose his fight over Cotto over the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, but Arum appears to be taking the decision making out of their hands. If Arum doesn’t let Pacquiao fight on May 2nd due to him wanting the May 2nd date for a Mexican fighter [Canelo], then there’s no way that Mayweather will even have a chance at fighting Pacquiao. The decision will have been made for him.

If Canelo wasn’t in negotiations to fight Cotto, one Arum’s fighters, you have to wonder whether Arum would be taking this stance right now.

I really don’t think Mayweather is going to agree with Arum to fight Pacquiao in April or June like Arum wishes. More likely, this is going to upset Mayweather and cause him to wash his hands of the whole thing. Arum will likely get his wishes of Canelo fighting on May 2nd, but the cost will be tremendous with the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight likely not taking place as a result.

Hoe gay zou het zijn als zo'n historisch gevecht niet gemaakt wordt omdat ze het niet eens kunnen zijn over de datum.

welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is saying that his fight between him and Floyd Mayweather Jr will be announced by the end of January, and that he expects the fight to take place. This is obviously good news for boxing fans who have been waiting patiently for the fight to take place for the past six years.

“We will make an announcement before the end of the month” and added “I think it (the fight” will happen,” Pacquiao said via Philboxing.com.

This news was expected from the 36-year-old Pacquiao, especially after the Los Angeles Times reported an inside boxing source saying that Mayweather is looking to get a 60-40 purse split for the fight and that Pacquiao is on board with that figure.

The fact that the negotiations are still going on at this point suggests that either Mayweather is looking for a bigger split than that, or possibly Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is trying to bring Mayweather down closer to a 50-50 purse split.

The venue for the fight, the date and the blood testing are all said to have been agreed on. Mayweather wants the fight to take place on May 2nd on Cinco de Mayo at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he’s reportedly not getting any friction in those areas.

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier last week that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight negotiations could be wrapped up within seven to ten days. These latest comments from Pacquiao about the fight being announced by the end of the month would put it a little over the 7-10 day estimate.

Pacquiao will be making out big time if his promoter Arum is able to get a 55-45 or 60-40 purse split for the Mayweather fight. That’s a very, very generous offer for the 36-year-old Filipino star, given his poor pay-per-view numbers since 2013, and his losses to Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.

I’m sure Arum and Mayweather’s management have worked out the numbers to what Pacquiao brings to the table in comparison to Mayweather in the pay-per-view market. But it’s hard for some boxing fans to see Pacquiao getting a purse split any better than 70-30, due to his declining numbers.

If Mayweather is willing to give Pacquiao a nice purse split of 60-40, then that’s a clear sign that Mayweather just wants to get the fight made so that he can make history. Giving Pacquiao a 60-40 deal or better will get the fight made now, and they can always fight each other two or three more times if the fight public is still interested in seeing them face each other.

It’ll require that their fight be a competitive one though, because if Mayweather turns Pacquiao into another Marcos Maidana like in their second fight, then the pay-per-view numbers for their additional fights will likely be disappointing.

The age has really crept in with Pacquiao lately. You can see it since 2012 when Pacquiao was fighting Marquez and Bradley. Pacquiao’s ability to move around the ring has been compromised by age. Pacquiao now just stands there and moves back and forth in a predictable manner.

He’s not jumping around side to side like he did earlier in his career, and he’s very easy to hit now, as we saw in his last few fights. Mayweather will have an easy time predicting when Pacquiao is going to come forward to throw punches, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Mayweather staggers or knocks him out if he catches him coming in the way that Marquez did.

Manny Pacquiao has reportedly agreed to full terms to fight Floyd Mayweather, with Mayweather's team also agreeing to the terms set at the moment.
According to a report at Yahoo! Sports, Manny Pacquiao has agreed to terms for a May 2 fight with Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, including the split of the purse, drug testing protocol, and, well, everything. The report comes from Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who says that Mayweather's representatives have also agreed to the terms of the fight, but that Mayweather himself has not yet done so.
The sources told Yahoo Sports that not only have the sides agreed for the fight to be May 2 at the MGM, but also on a 60/40 purse split that would favor Mayweather. Mayweather could make in the range of $120 million. An MGM spokesman told Yahoo Sports that there was no deal for the fight to be held at the Grand Garden as far as he is aware.
In order to pay the astronomical salaries the fighters will command, ticket prices will be scaled at an all-time high. The top ticket at the MGM Grand Garden is expected to go for $5,000 so that the arena can be scaled to produce a $40 million live gate.
Folks, we're here. The fight is closer to a reality than it ever has been before. One side is reportedly set, and the other just needs a final OK from Floyd himself. For all the world, it appears to be finally coming our way.
