@my 2 cents
Kniebanden gescheurd of ingescheurd. Zal wel ingescheurd zijn.

Jose Aldo out of UFC 189; Chad Mendes meets Conor McGregor for interim belt
The news many expected to come has arrived, and next week’s UFC 189 has been overhauled less than two weeks out.
UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) officially has pulled out of his title fight against rival Conor McGregor (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) with a rib injury. UFC President Dana White announced the news on tonight’s edition of “SportsCenter” on ESPN, alongside McGregor.
That means the contingency plan the UFC set in place this past week goes into effect, and McGregor will meet two-time title challenger Chad Mendes (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) for an interim belt.
White said the reason for the interim title, in this case, has to do with Aldo’s history of pulling out of title fights.
“Andre Pederneiras, his coach, called and basically said that Aldo’s rib is too painful, and he will not be fighting,” White said on the show. “So Chad Mendes now will fight Conor McGregor for the interim belt. Jose Aldo’s pulled out of five title fights. Conor’s ready to go. The No. 1 guy in the world, Chad Mendes, is ready to go. So it makes sense. They’ll fight for the interim title, and whenever Jose Aldo is ready, then that fight can happen to unify.
“It’s his decision. I don’t feel great about it. We’ve spent a lot of money promoting this fight. A lot of people are excited about the fight, so it’s definitely disappointing.”
UFC 189 takes place July 11 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
McGregor, not surprisingly, was critical of Aldo’s decision to pull out of the fight and said he believes he had already beaten the champion from a mental standpoint.
“If a man is scared for his life, we cannot force him to step inside and face me,” McGregor said on “SportsCenter.” “I feel he’s afraid. The doctors have cleared him to fight – it’s a bruise. But he has still pulled out. So rightfully so, the belt should be taken from him and we should contest for the interim belt – or in my opinion, the real belt.
“I just feel he was beaten mentally before I and the chance to beat him physically. I felt through the (UFC 189) ‘World Tour,’ he was looking for his way out and thankfully for him, his coach, his team, they have found their way out.”
The bout actually takes the main-event slot over another title fight: welterweight champion Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald. With Aldo vs. McGregor as the centerpiece of the show, the UFC reportedly spent millions of dollars on a flashy promotional video and five-country media tour (see the highlights below) to drum up interest for the mega-fight. But now all of that promotional effort is tossed to the side and the UFC will have 10 days to promote the new interim title fight.
Aldo and McGregor, respectively ranked No. 1 and No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings (Mendes is ranked No. 2), publicly bickered even before the fight was officially announced. White recently said the event was on pace for a million pay-per-view buys, a mark reached only nine times in company history.
White said after all the promotional push for the Aldo-McGregor fight – thousands of tickets are believed to have been sold to fans from Ireland coming to Las Vegas to see their national MMA hero – the show must, essentially, go on.
“It’s (Aldo’s) decision,” White said. “I don’t feel great about it. We’ve spent a lot of money promoting this fight. A lot of people are excited about the fight, so it’s definitely disappointing. I think (Mendes-McGregor) is going to be a great fight. Chad Mendes just fought Jose Aldo in a five-round war – literally one of the best fights I’ve seen. So it should be fun.”
Earlier this week, McGregor told ESPN he would knock Aldo out in the first round around the four-minute mark. He told “SportsCenter” he should be able to stop Mendes in the same amount of time next week.
“I’m going to demolish him. I’m going to rip his head off,” McGregor said. “I’m confident going against any man on the roster. I feel I’m No. 1 on the roster. That’s why an opponent change doesn’t matter. Essentially the opponent is an illusion in there – it’s you vs. you. It does not matter who’s across from me July 11. I will charge forward, I will put the pressure on, and I will get the victory.
“I’ll give Mendes – I feel the two of them are similar – four minutes of the first round. The shots that I envisioned landing on Jose, I visualize landing on Chad, also. Four minutes of the first round, Chad will be unconscious. I will toy with him a little bit.”
The latest UFC 189 lineup includes:

Mendes is in trainingskamp gegaan als back-up.
