UFC 203 adds lightweight showdown between Nik Lentz and Mairbek Taisumov

The UFC’s first trip to Cleveland continues to come together with the addition of a lightweight bout between Nik Lentz and Mairbek Taisumov.

The bout was announced on the UFC’s official website.

The event takes place Sept. 10 at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena. The night’s official bout order has yet to be determined, but the UFC 203 main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Lentz (26-7-2 MMA, 10-4-1 UFC) has frustrated many opponents over his UFC career, stifling offenses with his pressure game and grinding style. In his most recent bout, he defeated Danny Castillo at UFC on FOX 17. The bout marked his return to 155 pounds after a stint at featherweight.

Taisumov (25-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) is a finisher. In 25 career victories, he has only gone to the judges’ scorecards once. He is currently riding a four-fight winning streak in the UFC, all four victories coming by knockout. He has an 8-2 record in his 10 most recent bouts.

With the addition, the UFC 203 card includes:

champ Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title
    Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
    Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
    Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov

CM Punk slated for debut vs. Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September

Former WWE superstar Phil “CM Punk” Brooks once again has a UFC debut date set against Mickey Gall.

Brooks (0-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) announced on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast he would face Gall (2-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a bout that was expected to take place at UFC 199 or 200 but was delayed when he suffered an injury.

UFC 203 takes place Sept. 10 at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena with a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The instant I got cleared I got on the horn with (UFC President Dana White) and we nailed everything down so I will be debuting September 10 in Cleveland,” Brooks said. “I’m super excited. For obviously a myriad of reasons. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Gall was featured on an episode of White’s “Lookin’ for a Fight” web series, where he won a fight on the regional scene and immediately called out Brooks to the UFC president. He was given the chance to earn his shot at the popular but untested former pro wrestler when he faced Mike Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82. He won the bout with a rear-naked choke in just 45 seconds.

Brooks signed with the UFC in December 2014 but has been forced to delay his debut due to injury on multiple occasions.

With the addition, UFC 203 includes:

Champ Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title
    Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
    Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
    Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov
Phil “CM Punk” Brooks vs. Mickey Gall

Drew Dober vs. Erik Koch added to UFC 203 in Cleveland

The card for UFC 203 continues to come together with a new lightweight battle slated for the event.

Cleveland.com today reported a bout has been set between Drew Dober (16-7 MMA, 2-3 UFC) and Erik Koch (15-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) for the event, which takes place Sept. 10 at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena with a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The bout order has not been determined.

Dober is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Scott Holtzman at UFC 195. Prior to that defeat, he suffered a 54-second submission loss to Efrain Escudero at UFC 188.

Koch rebounded from a first-round TKO loss to Daron Cruickshank at UFC Fight Night 40 with a rear-naked choke submission of Shane Campbell at UFC Fight Night 88. The win over Campbell marked Koch’s return to the octagon after two years out of action.

With the addition, UFC 203 includes:
Champ Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title
    Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
    Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
    Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov

Urijah Faber booked for fight with Jimmie Rivera at UFC 203 in Cleveland

After contemplating retirement, four-time UFC title challenger Urijah Faber is fighting on, facing off with Jimmie Rivera at UFC 203.

After initially announcing a matchup between Faber (33-9 MMA, 9-5 UFC) and Francisco Rivera on the FS1-broadcast UFC Fight Night 91 weigh-ins show, a correction was made to indicate Faber will fight Jimmie Rivera (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC). Faber fought Francisco Rivera two years ago and submitted him in controversial fashion.

UFC 203 takes place Sept. 10 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The event’s main card airs live on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Faber, the No. 7 ranked fighter in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA bantamweight rankings gets back on the horse after a heartbreaking loss to bantamweight champ and No. 1-ranked Dominick Cruz in a rubber match at UFC 199. The decision setback marked the fourth time Faber, a former WEC champ, was unsuccessful in capturing UFC gold.

Afterward, he admitted he had some thinking to do about his future, though he stopped short of saying he would retire. Outside of title fights, Faber has lost just once in his career – a decision setback against current featherweight standout Frankie Edgar.

Rivera gets a huge opportunity to climb the UFC ladder if he can beat Faber. The New Jersey native is 3-0 in the octagon with a recent decision over Iuri Alcantara – a previous Faber victim – at UFC on FOX 18 in January.

So far, Rivera has fallen short only once in his professional career, though a second-round TKO loss to Dennis Bermudez ended his run on “The Ultimate Fighter 14.”

Francisco Rivera (11-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC), meanwhile, is still set to fight Erik Perez (15-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) later this month at UFC 201.

Joanne Calderwood vs. Jessica Andrade slated for UFC 203 in Cleveland

UFC 203’s lineup has a new key women’s bout on the lineup, officials today announced.

Joanne Calderwood (11-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will meet Jessica Andrade (14-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at the event, though officials didn’t disclose a weight class for the bout.

UFC 203 takes place Sept. 10 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Calderwood recently competed at 125 pounds, though the UFC hasn’t formally added a female flyweight division to its roster. The 29-year-old Scottish muay Thai fighter scored a TKO victory over Valerie Letourneau, which followed a unanimous-decision win and “Fight of the Night” performance over Cortney Casey a bout earlier. Calderwood, a quarterfinalist on “The Ultimate Fighter 20,” now looks for her third straight win since a submission loss to Maryna Moroz in 2015.

She now meets Andrade, a 24-year-old Brazilian who recently dropped from bantamweight to strawweight and picked up a TKO victory over Jessica Penne. As one of the UFC’s most active female fighters, Andrade is currently on a 5-2 UFC run that includes victories over Sarah Moras, Larissa Pacheco, Raquel Pennington and Rosi Sexton.

The latest UFC 203 card now includes:

Champ Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title
    Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
    Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov
    Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya
    Mickey Gall vs. CM Punk
    Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
    Urijah Faber vs. Jimmie Rivera
    Drew Dober vs. Erik Koch
    Jessica Andrade vs. Joanne Calderwood
