Ja Man Ja
Brad Tavares vs. Caio Magalhaes headed to UFC 203 in Cleveland
September’s UFC 203 event in the Buckeye State has a new middleweight addition.
Veteran Brad Tavares (13-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Caio Magalhaes (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) are set to square off at the event. The fighters recently acknowledged the bout on social media following a report from KOHN2.com.
UFC 203 takes place Sept. 10 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
Tavares returns from a 16-month layoff when he fights at UFC 203, where he looks to break out of a recent 1-3 skid that bumped him from the top 15 of the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings. In his most recent bout, the 28-year-old Hawaiian suffered a knockout loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC Fight Night 65 in Australia. A recent UFC Fight Night 92 booking against Thales Leites was scrapped when Tavares suffered a rib injury.
He now meets Magalhaes, a 28-year-old Brazilian who was riding a four-fight winning streak with stoppages of Luke Zachrich and Trevor Smith. However, in his most recent appearance, he suffered a submission loss to Josh Samman – the first stoppage defeat of his career – in July 2015. Like Tavares, Magalhaes’ recent career has been slowed by injuries.
The latest UFC 203 card now includes:
Champ Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title
Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov
Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya
Mickey Gall vs. CM Punk
Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
Urijah Faber vs. Jimmie Rivera
Jessica Andrade vs. Joanne Calderwood
Caio Magalhaes vs. Brad Tavares
Drew Dober vs. Erik Koch

After UFC 201 scratch, Ian McCall meets Ray Borg at UFC 203 in Cleveland
A flyweight bout between Ian McCall and Ray Borg is the latest addition to September’s UFC 203 lineup.
UFC officials today announced the bout after an initial report from Los Angeles Daily News.
UFC 203 takes place Sept. 10 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The event airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
McCall (13-5-1 MMA, 2-3-1 UFC) was scheduled to fight Justin Scoggins at UFC 201 in July. The fight fell apart two days prior to the event, though, when Scoggins ran into an overbearing weight cut and was unable to meet the required 126-pound limit. McCall, No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings, refused to meet Scoggins at a catchweight and therefor was pulled from the card.
Although McCall, 32, didn’t compete at UFC 201, he still received his show, win and Athlete Outfitting Policy money. He hoped for a quick turnaround against No. 7-ranked Wilson Reis at UFC 202 later this month, but instead was placed on the UFC 203 card.
No. 15-ranked Borg (9-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC), will meet McCall in what is undoubtedly the most significant challenge of his young career. Borg, 23, is among the youngest fighters in the division but most recently suffered a setback when he lost a unanimous decision to Scoggins at UFC Fight Night 82 in February.
“The Tazmexican Devil” has fallen short in his most noteworthy career contests against Scoggins and Dustin Ortiz, but will have the chance to make up for those outcomes by taking out McCall.
The latest UFC 203 card now includes:
champ Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title
Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
Mickey Gall vs. CM Punk
Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov
Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya
Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
Urijah Faber vs. Jimmie Rivera
Jessica Andrade vs. Joanna Calderwood
Caio Magalhaes vs. Brad Tavares
Drew Dober vs. Erik Koch
Ray Borg vs. Ian McCall

While Stipe Miocic continues to celebrate title win, Alistair Overeem is working for UFC 203
Has Stipe Miocic already taken his eye off the prize?
According to Alistair Overeem, it seems the new heavyweight champion of the world is too busy celebrating his big win over Fabricio Werdum back in May (see it again here) to be as hungry as he was, especially when it comes time to defend his strap against the towering Dutchman at UFC 203 on Sept. 10, 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Meanwhile, "The Reem" tells MMA Hour he’s been busy working on getting better in order to dethrone Miocic. And unlike the champ, he didn’t celebrate his last victory against Andrei Arlovski too much, as he went straight back to work.
"He’s riding a real high, he’s the hero of Cleveland, he’s celebrating it, he got married and doing the Vegas thing. He’s partying. So I got one message: The wolf that is hungry is going to run a little bit faster than the wolf that is chilling on top of the mountain who has his belly full. And that’s a little bit of what I am seeing here. Yeah, he’s enjoying the life, enjoying the high, but I have been working. After Arlovski I went straight back to the gym and I’m just working, working. I am working for that day, which is coming up on September 10. It gives me confidence and it builds me up. I’'m putting in the extra work and you need to do that as champion and I am doing it."
Still, you can’t fault Stipe for taking it all in after the biggest win of his combat sports career and marrying the love of his life. However, the 265-pound kingpin didn’t have enough time to breathe it all in before he was already booked to defend his hardware against one of the hardest hitting men in the division.
Of course, while Miocic may be living it up in the public eye, there’s no telling what kind of hours he’s putting in when the lights go out.
Either way, Overeem says he’ll be more than ready come fight night.

Travis Browne steps in for Ben Rothwell, rematches Fabricio Werdum at UFC 203
Travis Browne will get a second crack at Fabricio Werdum.
The move was necessitated by an injury to Ben Rothwell, who was originally expected to face Werdum. Bout agreements for the new contest are expected to be finalized shortly.
Werdum is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA heavyweight rankings, while Browne checks in at No. 9.
Featuring a heavyweight title fight between current champ Stipe Miocic and top contender Alistair Overeem, UFC 203 takes place Sept. 10 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Werdum (20-6-1 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Browne (18-4-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) first met in the main event of UFC on FOX 11 in April 2014. Werdum won the fight by unanimous decision.
“Vai Cavalo” would go on to defeat Mark Hunt later that year to claim the UFC’s interim heavyweight title before downing Cain Velasquez in June 2015 to capture the undisputed belt.
Meanwhile, Browne has alternated wins and losses since that result, scoring knockout wins over Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione but also suffering knockout losses to Andre Arlovski and, at July’s UFC 200, Velasquez.
The UFC 203 lineup now includes:
Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem
Travis Browne vs. Fabricio Werdum
Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov
Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya
Mickey Gall vs. CM Punk
Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
Urijah Faber vs. Jimmie Rivera
Jessica Andrade vs. Joanne Calderwood
Ray Borg vs. Ian McCall
Caio Magalhaes vs. Brad Tavares
Drew Dober vs. Jason Gonzalez

Erik Koch out, Drew Dober draws newcomer Jason Gonzalez at UFC 203
RFA and “The Ultimate Fighter 22” vet Jason Gonzalez is headed to the big show after a training injury scrapped Erik Koch from next month’s UFC 203, the promotion announced today.
Gonzalez (10-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will face off with veteran Drew Dober (16-7 MMA, 2-3 UFC) at the Sept. 10 pay-per-view event, which takes place at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The fight card’s official order has yet to be announced. Preliminary card bouts can been seen on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
It’s the second time a bout between Dober and Koch (15-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has been scrapped due to an injury to Koch.
Gonzalez enters the octagon on a six-fight winning streak. He made it into the house on “TUF 22” only to be outpointed in the reality show’s quarterfinal round by Abner Lloveras. Most recently, he caught the UFC’s eye again when promotion president Dana White attended RFA 38 to film “Dana White: Looking for a Fight” and he picked up a second-round TKO over Chris Padilla.
Opposite the cage on Sept. 10 is Dober, who in January got back in the win column with a decision over Scott Holtzman at UFC 195. Now seven fights into his UFC tenure, Dober has had a rocky go of things, suffering a submission loss to Leandro Silva that was ultimately overturned due to referee error and, prior to Holtzman, submitting to a standing guillotine at UFC 188.
With the change to the card, UFC 203 now includes:
Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem
Fabricio Werdum vs. opponent TBA
Nik Lentz vs. Mairbek Taisumov
Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya
Mickey Gall vs. CM Punk
Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
Urijah Faber vs. Jimmie Rivera
Jessica Andrade vs. Joanne Calderwood
Ray Borg vs. Ian McCall
Caio Magalhaes vs. Brad Tavares
Drew Dober vs. Jason Gonzalez

Hoe goed is Miocic precies? Go Alistair!
