Glover, erg sterke stabiele vechter, maar mist m.i. beetje raffinement/creativiteit. Wat je zegt over Johnson kan ik me niet echt in vinden Goro. Volgens mij heeft ie de laatste jaren alles gewonnen behalve tegen zijn horror match up, DC.

Anthony Johnson out of UFC on FOX 20 co-headliner with Glover Teixeira

Next month’s UFC on FOX 20 event has lost one half of its planned co-main event.

Anthony Johnson (21-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) has been forced off the card for undisclosed reasons, and Glover Teixeira (25-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC) now awaits a new opponent.

A person close to the event confirmed the withdrawal with MMAjunkie and spoke on the condition of anonymity since the organization hasn’t made a formal announcement. MMAFighting.com first reported the scratch.

UFC on FOX 20 takes place July 23 at Chicago’s United Center. The card airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Johnson, who’s No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light-heavyweight rankings, was looking for his third straight win at UFC on FOX 20. After a title loss to Daniel Cormier for the vacant belt in May 2015, the 32-year-old rebounded with back-to-back knockout wins over Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader in his most recent appearances.

Teixeira, who’s ranked No. 5, is on a three-fight winning streak. The former title challenger and 36-year-old Brazilian knocked out Patrick Cummins and Rashad Evans in his two most recent appearances.

Edson Barboza vs Gilbert Melendez promoted to co-main event for UFC on FOX 20 in July

Now that Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira have been removed from the card altogether (more on that here and here), the lightweight showdown between Edson Barboza and Gilbert Melendez has been promoted to co-main event at UFC on FOX 20.

The upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza is set for Sat., July 23, 2016 inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Barboza (17-4) is just 2-2 since beating Bobby Green back in 2014; however, he's in a much better spot than Melendez, at least in terms of career trajectory. "El Nino" (22-5) is coming off back-to-back losses and had to spend a year on the sidelines after flunking his UFC 188 drug test.

Who takes it?

UFC on FOX 20 will be headlined by the women's bantamweight showdown pitting former division titleholder Holly Holm against Peruvian "Bullet" Valentina Shevchenko. Also doing work in the 135-pound division is former No. 1 contender Bethe Correia, as she tangles with the rough-and-tumble Jessica Eye.

Newcomer J.C. Cottrell in for Martin vs. Michel Prazeres at UFC on FOX 20 in Chicago

The UFC has a short-notice replacement to fight Michel Prazeres next week in “The Windy City.”

Tony Martin (10-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) was forced out of his lightweight bout against Prazeres (19-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) a week ago due to a neck injury. His replacement at UFC on FOX 20 will be promotional newcomer J.C. Cottrell (17-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC). The UFC announced the change today.

UFC on FOX 20 takes place July 23 at United Center in Chicago. The event airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Cottrell, from Oklahoma City, has 13 of his 17 career wins by stoppage. He’s riding a six-fight winning streak dating back more than three years, including a submission of Jonathan Gary at Bellator 128 and consecutive wins under the Legacy FC banner.

Prazeres, a 32-year-old Brazilian, earned a split-decision victory over Valmir Lazaro in November. He’s now 3-1 over his past four fights; the lone loss came via decision to Kevin Lee.
