UFC on FOX 22: Paige VanZant vs. Michelle Waterson

Paige VanZant will fight at home, and she’ll do it in a main event.

UFC President Dana White today revealed on the FS1’s “UFC Tonight” that VanZant will face Michelle Waterson in the main event of UFC on FOX 22, which takes place Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif.

“The main event for the card is Paige VanZant vs. ‘The Karate Hottie,” White revealed. “My team is going to kill me.”

While the evening’s full bout order has yet to be determined, the evening’s main card airs on FOX.

VanZant (7-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) was in action most recently at August’s UFC on FOX 21 event, where she earned a spectacular knockout of Bec Rawlings. The result saw her rebound from a disappointing loss to Rose Namajunas at UFC Fight Night 80 that saw VanZant’s three-fight UFC winning streak snapped.

Meanwhile, Waterson (13-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) debuted in the UFC with a submission win over Angela Magana at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale in July 2015. However a Waterson injury scrapped a planned December 2015 fight with Tecia Torres, and an Aisling Daly injury scrapped that planned matchup at September’s UFC Fight Night 93 event. Waterson will now returns after a 17-month layoff.

Both VanZant and Waterson are currently honorable mentions in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA women’s strawweight rankings.

Bryan Barberena and Colby Covington set to meet at December's UFC on FOX 22

A welterweight scrap between Bryan Barberena and Colby Covington has been added toUFC on FOX 22, which takes place Dec. 17 in Sacramento, Calif.

UFC officials today announced the new contest.

UFC on FOX 22 takes place at Golden 1 Center. The main card, headlined by strawweight prospects Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson, will air on FOX after prelims expected for FOX and UFC Fight Pass. A full bout order has yet to be determined.

Barberena (12-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) started building a “prospect killer” reputation for himself after beating undefeated up-and-comers Sage Northcutt and Warlley Alves in his past two octagon outings. After a TKO over Joe Ellenberger in his octagon debut, the 27-year-old had his sole UFC loss by the hands of Chad Laprise, at UFC 186.

Covington (10-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) brings in back-to-back wins of his own – after a loss to Alves snapped an initial three-win UFC run. Fresh off a TKO over Max Griffin at UFC 202 in August, the 28-year-old 170-pounder has only gone the distance once in the octagon, beating Mike Pyle unanimously at UFC 187.

UFC officials also made a formal announcement for another 170-pound matchup reported earlier today for the same card, with Alan Jouban looking for his third straight win over undefeated knockout artist Mike Perry.

With the addition, UFC on FOX 22 now includes:
Paige VanZant vs. Michelle Waterson
Mickey Gall vs. Sage Northcutt
Bryan Barberena vs. Colby Covington

Ben ik helemaal niet met je eens! Page is erg populair in de VS en haar partijen zorgen voor vuurwerk. Mickey Gall vs Sage Northcutt is een partij tussen twee van de grootste talenten in de UFC en dit zal dan ook de eerste worden uit meerdere partijen.

Of Gall inderdaad een groot talent is valt nog te bezien.
Mijn opa had CM punk ook verslagen
We zullen na zijn partij met sage zien waar hij staat.

Urijah Faber faces Brad Pickett at UFC on FOX 22 in December

“The California Kid” will fight at home this December.

UFC officials today announced that Urijah Faber will face fellow veteran bantamweight Brad Pickett at UFC on FOX 22. The confirmation follows an initial report from The Sacramento Bee.

UFC on FOX 22 takes place Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The main card, headlined by strawweight prospects Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson, will air on FOX after prelims expected for FOX and UFC Fight Pass. A full bout order has yet to be determined.

Faber (33-10 MMA, 9-6 UFC), a former WEC featherweight champion, is a future UFC Hall of Famer, who has long represented Sacramento as the leader of the famed Team Alpha Male. He’ll be looking to snap the first two-fight losing streak of his career after falling short against Jimmie Rivera and Dominick Cruz.

“One Punch” Pickett (25-12 MMA, 5-7 UFC) is an English fighter and longtime member of American Top Team. He was in action earlier this month, suffering a disappointing first-round loss to Iuri Alcantara at UFC 204.

The card for UFC on FOX 22 continues to come together with the announcement of a light heavyweight scrap.

Paul Craig (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will step into the octagon for the first time to face off with Luis Henrique da Silva (12-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at the event, which takes place Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The main card, headlined by strawweight prospects Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson, will air on FOX after prelims expected for FOX and UFC Fight Pass. A full bout order has yet to be determined.

Craig, who uses the “Inglourious Basterds” inspired nickname, “Bearjew,” is a submission specialist. Seven of the Scot’s eight victories have ended with his opponent tapping out. After fighting four times in 2015, he has not fought in 2016.

Da Silva is almost Craig’s perfect foil. The Brazilian picked up a submission win over Joachim Christensen in his most recent outing at UFC Fight Night 96 ( check out him talking about the victory in the video above), but that submission snapped a run of knockout victories that stretched to his pro debut.

UFC officials recently announced a flyweight bout between Fredy Serrano (3-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Hector Sandoval (12-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

UFC on FOX 22 takes place Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The card, headlined by strawweight prospects Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson, airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Serrano, a 37-year-old Colombian, took up MMA after wrestling for his country in in the 2008 Summer Olympics. After a short run on “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America,” he made his official UFC debut and scored a “Performance of the Night” bonus and MMAjunkie’s “Knockout of the Month” honors with a third-round knockout win over Bentley Syler. He then scored a quick win over Yao Zhikui, who suffered an arm injury in their bout, before a recent split-decision loss to Ryan Benoit.

He looks to rebound against Sandoval, a veteran of the West Coast circuit who recently made his UFC debut on the strength of a four-fight winning streak. However, the 30-year-old Team Alpha Male fighter suffered a quick submission loss to Wilson Reis in his first trip to the octagon.

Takeya Mizugaki vs. Eddie Wineland added to UFC on FOX 22

A bantamweight clash between veterans has been added to UFC on FOX 22.

Takeya Mizugaki (21-10-2 MMA, 8-5 UFC) will square off with Eddie Wineland (22-11-1 MMA, 4-5 UFC) at the event, which takes place Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The card, headlined by strawweight prospects Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson, airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

The bout was announced on UFC.com.

Mizugaki last fought at UFC 202, suffering a knockout at the powerful hands of Cody Garbrandt in just 48 seconds. Prior to the defeat, the 32-year-old picked up a win over George Roop. The win over Roop is Mizugaki’s only victory in his four most recent trips to the octagon.

Wineland has also fallen on hard times. While he defeated Frankie Saenz by third-round TKO at UFC on FOX 20 in his most recent outing, Wineland has a 2-3 record since 2013.
