RIP Fedor.

Fedor Emelianenko headlines Bellator 172 vs. Matt Mitrione in San Jose in February
After years of wondering if he’d wind up there, heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko is headed to Bellator.
Emelianenko (36-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will make his Bellator debut on Feb. 18 against Matt Mitrione (11-5 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) in the main event of Bellator 172 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card will air on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Bellator officials made the announcement during tonight’s Bellator 165 event in San Jose.
Emelianenko signed a multi-fight contract with Bellator, the promotion announced in a release. His fight against Mitrione will be his first in the United States since 2011.
“It’s great to be back in business with Fedor,” Bellator President Scott Coker stated. “The man is a legend both inside and outside of the cage and I’m elated to bring him back Stateside for the American MMA fans to witness him fight Matt Mitrione in San Jose. He and I go quite aways back, and I look forward to continuing to build our partnership here in Bellator MMA.”
After three straight losses under the Strikeforce banner, where Emelianenko first fought for Coker, he has won five straight fights. He started his career 31-1 with one of the most storied runs in MMA history. Then he was submitted by Fabricio Werdum and knocked out by Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. In December 2015, he returned after more than three years away, and speculation began over whether he’d wind up in the UFC or Bellator. Bellator eventually won the prized 40-year-old.
Mitrione has won back-to-back fights for Bellator after signing with the promotion in 2015 following a 9-5 run in the UFC. He knocked out Carl Seumanutafa in the first round at Bellator 157 in June 2015, then followed it up with a TKO of Oli Thompson earlier this year.

Pff, maak me nu al druk hierom.

Bellator officials have announced 10 new matchups for February’s Bellator 172 event, including a key heavyweight contest, as well as a meeting of undefeated lightweights.
The new contests include main-card matchups of Cheick Kongo (25-10-2 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) vs. Oli Thompson (17-9 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) and Adam Piccolotti (9-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) vs. Brent Primus (7-0), as well as eight preliminary bouts.
Featuring a heavyweight matchup of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione, Bellator 172 takes place Feb. 18 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The evening’s main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Kongo carries a three-fight winning streak to the cage after banking decision wins over Tony Johnson, Viniciiuz Queiroz and Alexander Volkov. Meanwhile, Thompson made his Bellator debut in July and saw a five-fight winning streak snapped after suffering a TKO loss to Mitrione.
Piccolotti is quickly establishing himself as a top prospect in Bellator, debuting for the promotion in February 2015 and quickly racking up a 5-0 record in the promotion. He now faces a fellow undefeated fighter in Primus, who has a similar 5-0 mark in the organization, built since making his debut for the company in September 2013.

Fedor to undergo pre-fight drug testing ahead of Mitrione fight for Bellator
It has been well over five years since Fedor Emelianenko was required to pass a pre-fight drug test. Though the ‘Last Emperor’ competed as recently as June 2016, Russian MMA promotions do not have established doping policies and do not require any form of testing ahead of fights. However, given that Emelianenko’s next fight will take place under the Bellator MMA banner in San Jose, California, he will once again be subjected to the testing process.
The promotion’s president, Scott Coker, confirmed to state-run Russian news outlet TASS.ru that "doping tests will be carried out by the athletic commission."
Emelianenko is scheduled to meet fellow heavyweight Matt Mitrione in the main event of an upcoming Bellator show. While under a multi-fight deal with the promotion, Fedor is not exclusively bound to Bellator and is free to pursue other opportunities.
The Fedor vs. Mitrione fight is scheduled to take place on February 18 in San Jose, California.

Josh Thomson vs. Patricky 'Pitbull' Freire set as Bellator 172 co-main event
Josh Thomson’s next fight won’t be a championship showdown with Bellator lightweight titleholder Michael Chandler.
Instead, Thomson (22-8 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) will face off with another 155-pound contender in Patricky Freire (16-8 MMA, 9-7 BMMA) in next month’s Bellator 172 co-main event. The card is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione.
The matchup was announced on tonight’s Bellator 171 broadcast on Spike.
Bellator 172 takes place Feb. 18 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Thomson, a former Strikeforce lightweight champion and seven-fight UFC veteran, has not competed since a second-round TKO of Pablo Villaseca at Bellator 147 in December 2015. The fight marked Thomson’s second appearance under the Bellator banner after he signed with the promotion in mid-2015 after parting ways with the UFC.
“The Punk” was specifically named as a desired next opponent by divisional kingpin Chandler, but it appears that wasn’t the fight to make at this time. If Thomson can win again and improve to 3-0 under the Bellator banner, few fights outside a title shot would make sense.
Freire, meanwhile, will try to climb back into title contention after he was on the receiving end of a highlight-reel “Knockout of the Year” candidate at the hands of Chandler at Bellator 157 in June.
“Pitbull” fell short of capturing the then-vacant 155-pound belt from Chandler at the event, but can get right back into the discussion for another chance at the gold if he’s able to defeat an established veteran like Thomson.
With the co-main event addition, the Bellator 172 card now includes:

When life gets tough...

Mentaal zeer zwak.
