Default GLORY 48: New York (1-12)

GLORY Returns to The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City with Two World Title Fights on Friday, Dec. 1

    Friday, Sep 15 2017
Tickets on sale Sept. 20 with portion of proceeds to benefit Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
Four years removed from a memorable first visit, the world’s premier kickboxing league made its way back to The Big Apple this summer, selling out The Theater at Madison Square Garden in July.

The fans of New York won’t have to wait nearly that long for another unforgettable evening, as GLORY returns to The Theater at Madison Square Garden for GLORY 48 New York and GLORY 48 SuperFight Series on Friday, Dec. 1.

With two historic events in the books, GLORY is once again stacking the deck, with a lineup that includes two world title fights and a strong mix of new and familiar faces.

GLORY 48 New York is headlined by No. 4-ranked featherweight contender Kevin VanNostrand (16-1, 11 KO, fighting out of the United States) getting his first title opportunity. The 30-year-old New Yorker will meet the winner of a bout between featherweight champion Robin van Roosmalen and No. 1 contender Serhiy Adamchuk happening later this month at GLORY 45 Amsterdam.

Fueled by the hometown crowd’s support, VanNostrand showcased all the tools in his impressive arsenal during a one-night tournament at GLORY 43 New York last July. After knocking out Mo Abdurahman in the tournament’s opening round, VanNostrand went on to face Giga Chikadze in a rematch from 2016, this time toppling the tournament favorite and securing his shot at GLORY gold.

New York’s own “Super” Elvis Gashi (19-0, 10 KO, fighting out of the United States) stole the show in his debut at GLORY 43 SuperFight Series, upsetting highly ranked lightweight Josh Jauncey in the evening’s co-headline bout.

Gashi, just 24 years old, will be back at GLORY 48 New York, looking to maintain his unblemished record in a lightweight match-up to be announced shortly.

Born in Kosovo, Gashi compiled a 107-3 amateur record and left home for the United States in 2012 to pursue his dream as a top-level fighter. That decision has paid off, now competing on the world’s biggest stage.

GLORY super bantamweight world champion and MMA fighter Tiffany “Time Bomb” van Soest (18-2-1, 6 KO, fighting out of the United States) looks to ride the momentum of her knockout victory at GLORY 44 Chicago last month, putting the title on the line once more in the headline attraction of GLORY 48 SuperFight Series.

Her opponent for the New York fight card will be determined in October when France’s Anissa Meksen, ranked No. 3, goes toe-to-toe with Turkey’s Funda Alkayiş, ranked No. 8.

Van Soest has won eight in a row, including an undefeated record of 4-0 inside the GLORY ring.

Former UFC fighter and recent roster addition Chris Camozzi makes his highly anticipated debut at GLORY 48 SuperFight Series. With nearly 15 years of striking experience, the 30-year-old veteran will test himself by jumping into GLORY’s deep middleweight division.

Opponents for Gashi and Camozzi, as well as additional match-ups for both GLORY 48 New York and GLORY 48 SuperFight Series will be announced at a later date.

Tickets for GLORY 48 New York and GLORY 48 SuperFight Series go on sale Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m ET and are priced at $350, $225, $200, $175, $125, $75 and $61. Tickets will be available for online purchase at MSG.com and at the Madison Square Garden box office.

GLORY Fight Club subscribers and social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) followers will have the opportunity to purchase tickets starting Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. ET using an exclusive one-day pre-sale code at MSG.com. To receive the exclusive code and access the pre-sale offer, subscribe to the GLORY Fight Club, follow GLORY on Twitter, like GLORY on Facebook, or follow GLORY on Instagram.

GLORY will be donating a portion of ticket revenue and merchandise sold for this event to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, benefitting victims affected by the recent floods.

GLORY will be working locally with promoter Lou Neglia and with Justin Blair's Friday Night Fights to bring New York this exciting evening of stand-up striking.

GLORY 48 New York Additions Include UFC Veteran Thiago Silva and Middleweight Qualifier Tournament Entrants

    Friday, Oct 27 2017
Tickets on sale now with portion of proceeds benefiting Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
GLORY 48 New York has taken shape with the addition of six-year UFC veteran Thiago Silva and three of the four middleweights set to do battle in a one-night qualifying tournament at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday, Dec. 1.

Silva, who will debut at light heavyweight, earned a reputation during his MMA tenure for carrying massive power, with 13 of 19 career victories ending via knockout.

GLORY 48 New York will also feature a one-night, four-man middleweight qualifying tournament. The qualifying tournament winner will be granted entry into an upcoming middleweight contender tournament – a system in place to determine GLORY's future title challengers.

In the first of two tournament semifinal match-ups, GLORY veteran Wayne Barrett (6-5, 4 KO, fighting out of the United States), who cut his teeth on the New York fight scene, returns to the GLORY ring for the first time in nearly two years. His opponent will be No. 7-ranked middleweight Robert Thomas (8-5, 5 KO, fighting out of Canada), who most recently earned 'Knockout of the Night' honors at GLORY 44 SuperFight Series in August. The pair of fighters have met once before, with Barrett edging Thomas by decision at GLORY 27 Chicago.

Mike "The French Rock" Lemaire (18-4, 8 KO, fighting out of the United States) will serve as one half of the other tournament semifinal match-up, with his opponent – the fourth and final tournament entrant – to be announced shortly. Should Lemaire advance to the tournament final round, he will seek revenge against either Barrett or Thomas, who each hold a win over the Muay Thai practitioner.

The previously announced featherweight title tilt between champion Robin van Roosmalen and challenger Kevin VanNostrand (16-1, 11 KO, fighting out of the United States) has been put on hold, as Van Roosmalen recovers from an eye injury. VanNostrand will remain on the card and meet the winner of this Saturday's featherweight contender tournament for the interim featherweight belt in New York. The tournament entrants vying for this interim title opportunity at GLORY 47 Lyon are Fabio Pinca, Anvar Boynazarov, Azize Hlali, and Abdellah Ezbiri.

The current fight card for GLORY 48 New York can be found below:

    GLORY 48 New York
    Interim Featherweight Title Headline Bout:
    Kevin VanNostrand vs. TBD
Middleweight Tournament Final Bout: Winner of Bout A vs. Winner of Bout B
Light Heavyweight Co-Headline Bout: Thiago Silva vs. TBA
Middleweight Tournament Semifinal Bout B: Robert Thomas vs. Wayne Barrett
Middleweight Tournament Semifinal Bout A: Mike Lemaire vs. TBA

GLORY 48 New York will be carried live on ESPN3 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Dec. 1. The event will replay on ESPN2 at 10:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. PT the following evening, Saturday, Dec 2.

GLORY 48 SuperFight Series, the five-fight card taking place ahead of GLORY 48 New York, will feature the debut of recent roster addition Chris Camozzi and another appearance for New York’s own “Super” Elvis Gashi (19-0, 10 KO, fighting out of the United States), who stole the show by upsetting Josh Jauncey during the organization's last visit to The Big Apple.

With nearly 15 years of striking experience, the 30-year-old veteran Camozzi will face middleweight Kyle "Wicked" Weickhardt (8-1, 6 KO, fighting out of the United States), while Gashi squares off against WAKO Team USA athlete Nate "The Natural" Richardson (11-2, 5 KO, fighting out of the United States) at lightweight. Born in Kosovo, Gashi compiled a 107-3 amateur record and left home for the United States in 2012 to pursue his dream as a top-level fighter.

Also contested at lightweight, Itay Gershon (14-4, 5 KO, fighting out of Israel) returns following a successful debut at GLORY 43 SuperFight Series, taking on Justin "J-Ho" Houghton (2-1, fighting out of the United States).

GLORY 48 SuperFight Series is headlined by super bantamweight world champion and MMA fighter Tiffany “Time Bomb” van Soest (18-2-1, 6 KO, fighting out of the United States), looking to ride the momentum of August's knockout victory into her next bout against a top-ranked challenger. Like VanNostrand, her opponent will be determined this Saturday, when France’s Anissa Meksen, ranked No. 3, goes toe-to-toe with Turkey’s Funda Alkayiş, ranked No. 8. The winner will face Van Soest in New York.

The current fight card for GLORY 48 SuperFight Series can be found below:

GLORY Interim Featherweight Championship Pits Kevin VanNostrand Against Anvar Boynazarov at GLORY 48 New York on Dec. 1

    Wednesday, Nov 15 2017
Also added to GLORY 48 New York:John King steps in against UFC veteran Thiago Silva Matt Baker meets Mike Lemaire in tournament semifinal match-upPlus, GLORY 48 SuperFight Series adds: Ivan Galaz vs. Ahmed Samir at middleweight

GLORY, the world’s premier kickboxing league, today announced several additions to GLORY 48 New York and GLORY 48 SuperFight Series, finalizing both fight cards to take place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday, Dec. 1.

Uzbekistan's Anvar Boynazarov (91-23-2, 53 KO, fighting out of the United States) has seized an opportunity to fight for the GLORY interim featherweight championship, taking on New York native Kevin VanNostrand (16-1, 11 KO, fighting out of the United States) in the headline bout of GLORY 48 New York.

Boynazarov shook the kickboxing world during last month’s featherweight contender tournament, landing a devastating left hand against Fabio Pinca that earned ‘Knockout of the Night’ honors. He would go on to drop a decision to Abdellah Ezbiri in the tournament’s final round.

With the tournament winner Ezbiri unable to compete at GLORY 48 New York, Boynazarov quickly turns around and prepares to battle VanNostrand for GLORY gold.

VanNostrand is no stranger to tournament success himself, showcasing an arsenal at GLORY 43 New York in July. After knocking out Mo Abdurahman in the tournament’s opening round, VanNostrand went on to face Giga Chikadze in a rematch from 2016, this time toppling the tournament favorite and earning his spot in December’s title tilt.

In the GLORY 48 New York co-headline bout, six-year UFC veteran Thiago Silva makes his promotional debut against Texas-based light heavyweight John King (7-4-1, 3 KO, fighting out of the United States).

Silva earned a reputation during his MMA tenure for carrying massive power, with 13 of 19 career victories ending via knockout. King honed his athleticism and toughness on the gridiron, playing professionally in the Arena Football League before transitioning into combat sports, where he now competes in both the cage and the ring.

GLORY 48 New York will also feature a one-night, four-man middleweight qualifying tournament. The qualifying tournament winner will be granted entry into an upcoming middleweight contender tournament – a system in place to determine GLORY's future title challengers.

Middleweight Matt “The Butcher” Baker (20-5, 10 KO, fighting out of the United States), a two-time IFMA World Championships bronze medalist, has been added to the qualifying tournament, with Muay Thai practitioner Mike "The French Rock" Lemaire (18-4, 8 KO, fighting out of the United States) serving as his opening-round match-up.

The complete five-fight card for GLORY 48 New York can be found below:

GLORY 48 SuperFight Series, the five-fight card taking place ahead of GLORY 48 New York, is headlined by super bantamweight world champion and MMA fighter Tiffany “Time Bomb” Van Soest (18-2-1, 6 KO, fighting out of the United States), who looks to halt the rise of No. 2-ranked challenger Anissa Meksen (93-3, 30 KO, fighting out of France).

Van Soest has won eight in a row, including a flawless 4-0 record inside the GLORY ring. A highly decorated fighter with multiple French national, European and world titles to her name, Meksen most recently defeated Funda Alkayis in a No. 1 contender bout at GLORY 47 SuperFight Series.

A middleweight scrap between Ivan “El Terrible” Galaz (56-6, 15 KO, fighting out of Chile) and Ahmed “The Prince of Egypt” Samir has also been added to GLORY 48 SuperFight Series. Galaz’s resume includes a bout against GLORY middleweight world champion Alex Pereira, while Samir is an experienced boxer, kickboxer and mixed martial artist fighting out of New York.
