Pride Fc nieuws over de nieuwe gewichtsklassen

Currently in PRIDE, there are two weight classes; Heavyweight (93kg and up) and Middleweight (93kg and down). DSE President Nobuyuki Sakakibara made the announcement that starting in April, they would implement a new Welterweight division with the weight limit being 70kg to 83kg.




The main participants for this division would be the likes of Hayato Sakurai, Ikuhisa Minowa and Daiju Takase. To raise their motivation, Sakakibara intends on creating a Welterweight title to be fought over on the Bushido series.

Furthermore, a Lightweight division is in the works with the weight limit being 70kg and down. Takanori Gomi would become the focus of that division. The Bushido series would be the main battle ground for this division also. Even though more division's are being created, Sakakibara doesn't want fights to be limited to their own divisions.

Op zich vind ik de heavyweights en de light heavyweights altijd het mooist om naar te kijken, maar zo'n nieuwe divisie voegt wel wat toe. Al was het maar vanwege het feit dat de UFC er in die divisie nu ook serieuze concurrentie bij heeft. Ik ben alleen benieuwd of er nu meer partijen/evenementen bijkomen of dat het tenkoste gaat van de wat zwaardere jongens.
