Interview with Ultimate Glory Fighter Antony Rea

Antony Rea's Interview presented by MAX Entertainment

Antony Rea is a tough fighter with a great cartel of international fights. Rea has fought for Cage Rage, BOdog Fight and Jungle Fight amongst those promotions. In the span of approximately 6 years Rea has faced tough opponents while compiling a record of 11 -9. One fo those wins was against Evangelista "Cyborg". Rea retunrrs to the rings on November 19th in Ultimate Glory. We caught up with Rea to check out what's up:

KP- How long have you been training? What is your specialty?
AR- I've been training for since years now. I practiced Judo for 3 years when I was a kid but I really started to train had when I was 16 years old with the Kenpokan, a martial art who runs amateur MMA rules. A few years later I joined the Pankido, who also runs amateur MMA fights. Under these 2 banners, I won 35 fights and lost 2. In 2001, I started to fight in Professional MMA events and won also the 4th European BJJ and Grappling Cup this year. Since then I train in Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling and BJJ/grappling with guys from our team Volscens, based in Toulouse city, in the south of France.

KP- What is the best part of your game?
AR- I'm not a specialist in one part of the fight, I think I'm a adaptable fighter. I love to fight on my feet but also I like a lot the ground fighting, depending my opponent, the strategy, etc. and what's happening in the fight !

KP- You’ve fought for many organizations Bodog, Cage Rage, etc now going back to Holland? Do you feel it is an advantage to experience several promotions and several different Countries?
AR- For several reasons, I fought in a lot of places, in North America and Europe, for several promotions. I think it's an advantage to see different promotions, styles of opponents, venues, crowns, etc. It's different every time and it's a good for experience. I also visited several countries with my travels and some really nice places like Florida and Costa Rica.

KP- Fighting in Ultimate Glory is a big deal, what can we expect to see from you in this fight?
AR- I'm really happy to fight for Ultimate Glory, I come to win and show my skills to everybody. Like allways, I will try to finish the fight, I don't want points, and that will be a exciting fight !

KP- You defeated Evangelista Cyborg in Cage Rage, what was that like?
AR- I fought Cyborg in Cage Rage 10, like 2 years ago. That was a tough fight, Cyborg is an aggressive fighter but I do the right things, exchange on the feet and put him on his back and pound him. The referee stop the fight in the first part of the second round.

KP- Was that your hardest fight?
AR- That was a tough fight for sure but not the hardest. He was dangerous in the first minutes of the fight due to his aggressiveness and striking abilities but I known that when I put him on the ground, the fight will be mine.

KP- Why?
AR- Cyborg is really good and dangerous, the hardest thing was to stay on the feet and go to brawl without big damages. My strategy was to fight in my feet like him and when I had a good opportunity to put him on the ground. I watched some previous fights from him and saw that the safest thing for me was to put him on his back because his ground skill wasn't as the same level of his striking.

KP- What is the hardest thing for you to do in preparation for a match?
AR- The preparation for a fight is always a hard thing, I train a lot and hard but that's the deal ! One of the hardest thing is the diet, not to eat what you want and the weight control. Before I did some weight cutting, like 8-10 kg (15-20 pounds) the day before the fight but I lost stamina and nervous energy... Now I try to be very close to my weight class to cut nothing or just 1-2 kg but no more for the weigh-in day, I think it's better for me.

KP- What is your favorite weapon to finish a fight?
AR- Like I said before, I'm adaptable but I like to finish the fight by KO or TKO with my punches or ground'n pound, it's clear and the people like that ! But I am also always looking for a submission, it is great also.

KP- What can we expect from you in this fight?
AR- I like to try to finish the fight, all time, I will use all my skills for that, I expect a tough fight and I will do all I can do to win !!! One more time, I'll come in Netherlands to win !

Vecht Valentijn eigenlijk nog? Lijkt me ook een leuke pot. Andere opties: Reljic, Alistair, Gilbert, Hakim Gouram, Hans Stringer, Dave Dalgliesh, die Shemetov broertjes, Rodney Glunder, Dion Staring, Murad Chunkaiev, of misschien Sergei Kharitonov (kan misschien wel geregeld met Golden Glory?). Hoe zwaar is Rea eigenlijk precies?

Ow.... ik lees net in de line up dat Rea tot 91 kg vecht. Dan vallen er alweer een paar af. Hans Stringer lijkt me wel een goede optie!

Murad Chunkaiev traint soms met hem, Dion is geblesseerd, Hans was verhinderd, Michael moest een week erna vechten etc etc.

We hebben echter een top vechter van Siam Gym bereid gevonden om tegen Antony te vechten, namelijk Kamil Uygun!

Ik denk dat ie ook niet vecht, hij weegt momenteel rond de 80Kg gewichtsverschil is te groot.

Kamil heeft zichzelf aangeboden om te vechten. Hij weegt nu 86kg en zal voor deze partij aankomen. Hij vecht dus zeker wel!

Ik dacht dat Jordan een contract bij de UFC heeft en daar binnenkort ook moet vechten. Ik heb hem daarom ook niet benaderd!

Beste mensen jullie hebben toch gelijk gekregen

. Kamil zal niet aantreden tegen Antony Rea. Nadat zijn trainer mij accoord had gegeven belde Kamil me persoonlijk op om te vertellen dat er sprake van een miscommunicatie was...Hij is helaas verhinderd.

Máár als vervanger hebben wij de Belgisch Kampioen MMA kunnen strikken om een partij tegen Antony Rea te vechten. Zijn naam is Jimmy Mertens en komt uit voor Team Top Fighter!

Ook hebben wij Belgisch kampioen MMA tot 75kg Tommy de Pretz van Perfect Team bereid gevonden om een partij te draaien tegen de Fransman Golden Lloyd! Tommy won zijn partij afgelopen zaterdag nog op TKO tijdens het gala "Slamm, one night in Bankok".
