Floyd Mayweather Jr., the world's No. 1 boxer, is strongly considering a revolutionary jump to mixed martial arts under a deal being discussed with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser and best friend, told ESPN.com Friday night that the five-division world champion, who generated 3.25 million pay-per-view buys and more than $200 million in revenue in two mega fights in 2007, came away from a Thursday meeting with Cuban giving serious thought to taking his game and considerable drawing power to MMA.

-Mayweather's interest in participating in an MMA event was sparked after he struck up a friendship with Cuban during their participation this season as contestants on the ABC reality series "Dancing with the Stars."

-"Floyd is considering fighting with HDNet Fights," Cuban told ESPN.com. "We are going to let him visit some gyms to talk to some folks about what it would take to learn. He knows it won't be easy. But he is getting involved with MMA and HDNet Fights one way or another. He is pumped about it. He wants to go on to the next big thing. Floyd is a brilliant marketer. He follows the money."

-"If I said there's a guaranteed $30 million payday, Floyd would be lacing them up," Cuban said, optimistic that Mayweather would eventually participate in an MMA match. "If not, I could see him working to train and develop and invest in MMA fighters, knowing the upside. He can teach them how to be a better boxer and add to their other skills."

After each of his last three fights, Mayweather has talked about retirement or, at least, an extended break. Ellerbe said Mayweather is on vacation now but that when he returns, they'll discuss the prospect of an MMA bout in more detail.

"Floyd is about taking on challenges," Ellerbe said. "This ain't some kind of prank. That is one of many things we've talked about with Mark. Floyd would have to take time to really understand it, but it is most definitely something he is interested in."

Ze zullen Mayweather eventueel echt niet tegen een top grappler zetten natuurlijk, dus vergeet dat G&P maar. Verder zal Mayweather wel iets meer gaan verdienen dan USD 2 mio. Cuban heeft het zelf over USD 30 mio.
Cuban heeft het ego en de financiele middelen om zo'n payday te kunnen garanderen. Ik denk alleen dat Floyd het uiteindelijk niet aandurft. Hij heeft te veel te verliezen. Maar goeie marketingstunt van Cuban om zijn ideeen om een concurrent voor de UFC op te richten kracht bij te zetten.

Boxing champ Floyd Mayweather drops plans for MMA bout

Welterweight Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather broke all worldwide viewership records in his highly anticipated match against British hero and Junior Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton just two weeks ago, a record which Mayweather had set in April for his title fight against Oscar DeLa Hoya.

As recently as yesterday, however, it seemed that reaching the pinnacle in Boxing was not enough for the outspoken champion.

Leonard Ellerbe, an adviser to camp Mayweather informed ESPN.com on Friday that the five-division world champion held a meeting with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban regarding an invasion of the youth culture sport of Mixed Martial Arts.

According to Ellerbe, Cuban is entering into the promotional business of no-holds barred fighting, and would do most anything to bring the talents and drawing power of Mayweather to his show, including paying Mayweather “100 times what any Mixed Martial Arts fighter has ever made for a contest”.

With interest in Mixed Martial Arts waning during the past year, Cuban believes that an athlete of Mayweather’s caliber would be a shot in the arm for a sport once seen as having unlimited growth potential, according to Ellerbe.

This afternoon, however, a spokesperson for Mayweather denied that negotiations were underway for a venture into the world of ground grappling for the champ.

“Floyd is not a homo, not even close, he just got a little stressed out after two mega events this year, and he got curious about what it would be like to, you know, lay with a man”.

The spokesperson, who asked not to be identified, confided that “Floyd took care of it. He went to the airport, you know, like that senator, and did his thing, got sucked off by a men’s room ***, and that’s the end of it, he got this whole thing out of his system”.

Neither Cuban or Mayweather could be reached this evening for comment.

Het geld zou mij niet zo veel uitmaken als ik al tien keer multi-miljonair zou zijn. Meer mijn reputatie. Je bent de beste snelste en meest technische bokser van je tijd en vervolgens wordt je pretty face in een of andere cage from hell tot pulp geslagen..
