Default Anderson Silva to face Roy Jones Jr. after 4-fight UFC contract is up

"It is undoubted that I will face Roy Jones. We have talked too much, have signed some contracts and we want to make it the sooner the better. It's not for money or spotlight, it's for my desire. I watch Roy Jones since he competed as an amateur and in the Olympic Games. I'm looking forward to this fight to put in the ring everything I know, to show my students in the future that I understand what I may say over this or that and don't seem a pirate parrot. Before that, UFC is my focus. Dana treats me very well, as do all the staff of the organization. However I have to search what is better for myself. [I'm] very satisfied with my results [in the UFC] and I want to continue this way until the end of my contract. I have other projects and wish to get closer to my children. Maybe I will open a school in Curitiba to give the opportunity to students and friends and pass them my experiences of fighting as a coach. My contribution to MMA is getting to the top. I proved what I had to prove to myself but I still want to compete with kimono and in No Gi."
-UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, 34, explains his desire to wind down his MMA career after his current UFC contract ends in order to take on other projects; including a boxing match against the legendary Roy Jones Jr.
Silva currently has four fights left on his UFC contract with his next fight coming against former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 101 on Aug. 8. Silva (24-4), who has virtually cleaned out the UFC's middleweight division, will then likely square off against Dan Henderson or the winner of Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt, but he shouldn't.
Silva's already soundly defeated both Henderson and Marquardt, and Maia is considered by many to be an anticlimactic match up in the wake of Silva's subpar performance against Thales Leites at UFC 97. Rematches against fighters Silva's already beaten definitively are undesirable to most fans, specifically if Silva only has three fights left on his UFC contract as he will after his fight with Griffin.
The UFC can't afford to tie up its middleweight division for too long however, so the organization should instead give fans the grudge match with Wanderlei Silva or a fight with a resurgent Vitor Belfort next, assuming he signs with the organization as expected.
Either fight would be more interesting than retreads or bad style match ups. Silva could then, assuming he wins, look for the UFC to push superfights with both welterweight juggernaut Georges St. Pierre and light heavyweight kingpin Lyoto Machida.
Silva has stated under no uncertain terms that he would never fight Machida, but money talks and the UFC has a way of getting what it wants in terms of match ups when all is said and done.
A fight with St. Pierre is possible. The welterweight champion has stated as much provided he's given enough time to put on weight properly in order to negate Silva's size advantage.
However the next four fights of his UFC career play out, if they are his last, when all is said and done, Anderson Silva will go down as the greatest UFC middleweight in history.
