UFC 105: Main Event Couture vs Vera

UFC hall of famer Randy Couture will meet Brandon Vera in the UFC 105 main event on Nov. 15 at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. The Daily Telegraph was first to report the bout on Sunday.

Sources within the camps of both fighters confirmed to Sherdog.com that verbal commitments have been made, though bout agreements have not yet been signed.

The fight will be Couture’s first as a light heavyweight since he lost to Chuck Liddell in February 2006, ending a memorable trilogy that helped carry the UFC into a new era of prominence. The 46-year-old mixed martial arts legend last appeared at UFC 102 in August, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira -- the only man to hold the Pride Fighting Championships and UFC heavyweight crowns. Couture has lost his last two fights at heavyweight, leading some to question his place in the division. One of the sport’s most decorated competitors, he holds victories against six former UFC champions, including Liddell, Tito Ortiz and Vitor Belfort (twice).

Vera, who turns 32 in October, has posted back-to-back wins since his split decision loss to Keith Jardine at UFC 89. A skilled muay Thai striker and grappler, he cruised to a unanimous verdict against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 102. Seven of his 11 career victories have come by knockout or technical knockout, a 69-second drubbing of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir included.

Other bouts already confirmed for UFC 105 include a middleweight matchup pairing Michael Bisping with Denis Kang and a pivotal welterweight showdown pitting Dan Hardy against the undefeated Dong Hyun Kim.

Vera zal op afstand willen blijven en van daaruit couture belagen met lowicks en 1-2 combinaties...

Couture daarentegen zal elke kans om te clinchen aangrijpen...

Vera zag er heel goed uit tegen Krystoff. Vooral alle beoogde tekedowns werden vrij makkelijk "gestuffed".

Het is leuk voor het Amerikaanse volk dat Couture nog kan en wil vechten, maar ik denk denk dat het merendeel toch door Couture verloren zullen worden, zo ook tegen Vera.

Couture heeft een 6-fight deal getekend, kondigde hij aan net voor of na de partij tegen Noguiera.

Ik snap echt niet waarom Vera zo zwaar gehyped wordt. Oké, zijn laatste partij zag er goed uit, maar een main-event? Wat mij betreft had hij er al lang uitgesodemieterd mogen worden. Vera mist het vuur, iets wat UFC normaal gesproken keihard afstraft.

Terwijl Vera no where near een titleshot is volgens mij. Couture krijgt ze dan ook geregeld op een silver platter..

Afscheidspartij vs nogueira was mooi geweest, boeit me ook niet echt meer nu en ik hoop voor couture dat hij het merendeels van zn partijen niet zal verliezen

Volgens mij om 21:00 uur Amsterdam time. Ik check morgen MMA TV nog wel even voor de precieze tijd. Ben van plan het met een schuin oog te volgen, tegelijkertijd met het NL elftal (ja ik volg ook een beetje voetbal )

Hoop op winst voor Couture en Kang. Heb nog steeds een hekel aan Bisping, al denk ik dat hij de betere kansen heeft in zijn gevecht met Kang. Die gast is veel te onvoorspelbaar...
