If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
Prachtig fotoverslag!
Be a Warrior, not a Worrier

Firstly I would like to thank the Slamm team particularly Harmen Bakker for his hospitality, taking time out of his busy schedule to show us around town.
I’ve always been impressed with the Slamm shows, for their production value and professionalism. Shows of this calibre are staffed with an army of volunteers, marketing, production, logistics, hospitality, and guest services staff. It takes a lot of coordination and hard work to pull off shows like this and these guys have it down. I would recommend for those of you who’ve never been to a Slamm show to make it to the next one.A small group of us (Coach Damon and Adrian) decided to make a weekend of it. Muay Thai and Amsterdam, amazing combo…
There were about 20 fights on for the night, The event kicked off around 4PM at the Sporthal Stedenwijk (yes dutch is hard as hell) It’s was quite the sweat box, I’m not sure the venue was mean to be used in weather exceeding 80 F… You know it’s hot when the Thai guys walk in and immediately turn around and go sit in the parking lot! There was a good mix of fights all night; to be honest I was moving around so much I only caught about a quarter of them. If you want the list of results, you can check them out here on Mixfight
I took some cam footage, which was pretty poor quality; I’m hoping we can get some footage in a couple of days. Also big shout out to the Berlin MMT crew! Hope you made it home Safe!
**SPOILER***
Ilias el Hajoui vs. Pornsanae Sitmonchai
The first fight of the Holland Vs. Thailand series was Ilias el Hajoui and fighter from Team Gunyar vs. Pornsanae Sitmonchai. This was Pornsane’s first international fight, and he admitted that he was quite excited and a bit nervous. I’ll post footage later… Pornsanae came out in his aggressive trademark leg hunting style. El Hajoui has a very Dutch style and was bouncing around and moved around quite a bit. It was evident that Pornsanae had never faced anyone like this in Thailand, and was trying to get used to his rhythm. It didn’t take long for Pornsanae to finally corner him, and land a few savage leg kicks. By the 3rd round the kicks were beginning to take their toll, and el Hajoui was cut down… You’ll see in the footage that the referee lets him lay on the canvas for quite a bit before he starts counting him about (5 seconds)… home court advantage.
Somewhere in the 4th round Pornsanae smashes his shin on el Hojoui’s knee, and basically stops kicking with that leg. El Hajoui mounts a comeback and begins to make up ground. In the end it isn’t enough. Pornsanae wins on points. If you look through the gallery pics, you might recognise a familiar face in Pornsane’s corner!
Nonsai Sor. Sanyakorn vs. Miles Simpson
The second fight was Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn and Miles Simpson, not going to lie, but this wasn’t the cleanest Muay Thai I’ve seen in a while. I missed a great deal of this fight, I was sent looking for ice for Pornsanae’s leg… I was able to catch the last round where both of them were fairly spent, and simpson was landing a flurry of short elbows on Nonsai, they didn’t appear to be powerful, but were scoring.
Simpson takes it on points.
Faldir Chahbari vs. Bovy Sor. Udomsorn
The penultimate fight of the evening was Faldir Chahbari vs. Bovy Sor Udomsorn. I’m not going to lie; I was a bit pessimistic about Bovy’s odds. I sort of felt like he was the sacrificial fighter that was there to be fed to the lions in front of a home town crowd. I hadn’t realised Faldir had been absent from the ring for about a year, and looked as if he had a bit of ring rust… looks like it’s wasn’t going to be a walk over after all. I don’t ever recall Bovy throwing so many kicks ever, what the hell was going on? Don’t get me wrong he was still head hunting, but I think I counted one or two attempted headkicks… is this a new Bovy? I like it, Damon and I look at each other, and we can’t believe what were seeing. It wasn’t a vicious fight, it felt a little bit like they were sparring… in the end Faldir takes it on points, I thought if Thai judges scored the fight, Bovy would have actually taken it. We’ll have to wait for the footage.
The dutch are 2 and 1…I’m really looking forward to the final fight.
Saiyok Punpanmuang vs. Mohamed Khamal.
The fight starts off well, both fighters and mixing it up. I feel it like Saiyok’s about to take over he’s throwing bombs and flurries, then it happens, Khamel throws an elbow from inside, it’s quick and short, in fact I needed the instant replay to see it.Saiyoks’ cut badly, they call the Doctor up and he stops the fight. He looks crushed; in fact to me he looks like he’s on the verge of crying. He jumps out of the ring and heads towards my direction. I want to say something nice, something encouraging… I see the look on his face, and decide it’s better to just STFU and get out of his way. One of the better decisions I’ve made in my life. I think it’s his first loss in 4 years… tough break. I’m hoping they’ll be a rematch at Slamm 8, I’ll be there for it. All in all a bad night for the Thai’s, it can’t always be like Thai Fight right? I’ll try to get some footage up ASAP.
Hats off to Team Slamm for pulling of another great show!
