Gokhan Saki op bezoek bij Galatasaray!

Glory vechter Gokhan Saki is erg populair in Turkije. Dat bleek al wel toen hij hier afgelopen maand huishield tegen Daniel Ghita. Amper 2 rondes had Saki nodig om Ghita op TKO te verslaan.
Niet alleen onder vechtsporters is hij geliefd, ook het Turkse voetbalteam Galatasaray heeft Saki opgemerkt. De Nederlandse topvoetballer Wesley Sneijder, die uitkomt voor dit Turkse team, was graag aanwezig geweest tijdens Glory Turkije. Dit ging helaas niet vanwege een trainingskamp. Het team van Sneijder is kampioen geworden dus wat dat betreft een verstandige keuze.
Omdat het kampioenschap te vieren nodigde Sneijder Saki uit om hierbij te zijn. En daarom vertrok Saki gisteren naar Turkij en vieren de mannen a..s dinsdag samen het kampioenschap.
Gokhan Saki doneert € 5.000,- aan Diamond Foundation!

De release van Deel 2 van de Rebel Reality show is een dag uitgesteld, maar met een goede reden! Hoofdrolspeler Gokhan Saki doneerde gisteren namelijk € 5.000,- aan de Diamond Dekkers Foundation. Deze stichting, die is opgericht in naam van Ramon Dekkers, helpt weeskinderen in Thailand. Saki wilde hier eigenlijk geen publiciteit aan besteden, maar in overleg met de stichting en Golden Glory TV is toch besloten hier aandacht aan te besteden.
Een heel mooi gebaar van een groot sportman en hopelijk volgen meer vechters zijn voorbeeld. Enkele beelden van de uitreiking van de cheque wilde Golden Glory TV graag in de docu opnemen en dus is de release met een dag uitgesteld.
‘Saki weer aan de bak’

Na een korte rustperiode van een aantal weken mag Gokhan Saki weer hard aan de bak. Onlangs won de nieuwe protegee van Mike Passenier op overtuigende wijze van Daniel Ghita. Hiermee staat Saki hoog bovenaan in de GLORY rankings en moet hij alleen Sem Schilt nog voor zich laten gaan. De rest laat hij ver achter zich.
Het is even na 16.00u wanneer Gokhan Saki de sportschool in Oostzaan betreedt. Een paar minuten komt ook Mike Passenier binnen. Vandaag staat een conditietraining op het programma; bijna anderhalf uur gaan trainer en vechter aan de slag. (more…)

ISTANBUL, Turkey (April 6, 2013) – In a thrilling, highlight reel performance, Gokhan Saki (80-16, 56 KOs) of the Netherlands scored two knockdowns en route to a second round TKO of rival, top-ranked superstar Daniel Ghita (46-9, 35 KOs) of Romania in the main event the GLORY 6 Istanbul kickboxing mega-card at Ülker Sports Arena on Saturday, April 6, live on GloryWorldSeries.com.
The victory earned the 29-year-old Saki a meeting with reigning GLORY Heavyweight Champion Semmy Schilt.
Saki, who had defeated Ghita 28 months ago by way of unanimous decision, came out of the gates looking to close the distance between Ghita who, at 1.94 meters/6-foot-4, stands .11 meters/4 ½ inches taller than Saki.
Saki caught an attempted kick to the body and dumped Ghita, left arm first, to the canvas, putting Ghita in a noticeable amount of pain. Ghita shook off the effect of the throw well, though, scoring with a pair of strong round kicks before the first round came to a close.
In the second round, Ghita unloaded more round kicks to the body and leg of Saki before Saki unleashed a vicious flurry of punches and dropped Ghita with a looping right hook. Ghita made it to his feet, but Saki put his opponent down for a second time with a left hook.
Badly hurt, Ghita surprisingly beat the referee’s count. Saki closed in once again and dished out more punishment with his hands. The referee stepped in and stopped the contest, giving Saki the TKO victory.

ISTANBUL, Turkey (April 4, 2013) – The fighters’ training camps have winded down for the long-awaited rematch between heavyweight superstar rivals Gokhan Saki (79-16, 55 KOs) of the Netherlands and Daniel Ghita (46-8, 35 KOs) of Romania in the main event of GLORY 6 Istanbul at Ülker Sports Arena on Saturday, April 6, live on GloryWorldSeries.com.
At stake in the contest is a crack at reigning GLORY Heavyweight Champion Semmy Schilt, whom the 29-year-old, 1.82 meter/6-foot, 104.3 kilogram/230-pound Saki lost a unanimous decision to in the semifinal stage of the GLORY 4 Tokyo Heavyweight Grand Slam 16-man, one-night tournament on New Year’s Eve. The defeat came after Saki scored back-to-back, thunderous first round KOs on Raoumaru of Japan and Anderson ‘Braddock’ Silva in the round of 16 and quarterfinal stages of the tournament, respectively.
For Saki, the fight is not only an opportunity to put himself into position to capture the GLORY heavyweight championship and avenge a previous loss to the towering 2.12 meter/6-foot-11 ½, 132 kilogram/291 pound Schilt, but also a chance to return to his roots. A native of Turkey, Saki will certainly have the thousands of fans at Ülker Sports Arena behind him, giving the heavy-handed KO artist added incentive in the bout.
Here is what Saki, who previously defeated Ghita via unanimous decision on Dec. 11, 2010, said before shutting the doors to his training camp:
“I fought Ghita in 2010. He is a very technical fighter. He is a good fighter. He is big and has more weight than me, but now it’s two years later and my style is much better. Last time I won by points, but this time I am going to try and knock him out. That’s what I have been training for. I train with Mike Passenier now – a new system. This is the system for the KOs and that’s what we are going to do.”
On Ghita’s camp having concerns about fighting in front of a Turkish crowd:
“If Daniel wins or hits me good, he doesn’t need to worry. It’s a sport. If he wins, he wins. If I win, then I win. I hear there are some problems at the other side, but they don’t need to worry. I! t’s sport and Turkish people love sport, love kickboxing, (there will be) no problem.”
