Yodsaenklai Fairtex stops Kem Sitsongpeenuang with third round elbow KO in Pattaya
Yodsaenklai Fairtex posted one of the biggest wins of his entire career last night with a dramatic KO over former training partner Kem Sitsongpeenong at Muay Thai Combat Mania in Pattaya. Yodsaenklai was first introduced to international audiences as the winner of the original Contender Asia series and has won belts with the WMC, WBC, WPMF as well as at Lumpinee Stadium.
He was going up against a form fighter in recent Toyota Champion, Thai Fight winner, Izuzu Cup Winner and WBC champion Kem Sitsongpeenong, who also won a Toyota Marathon earlier this year. The fight was set for 71 kgs with the weigh in taking on the morning of the show. There was some speculation as to what effect the weight cut would have on Yodsaenklai but he looked in fantastic shape. The first round saw Yodsaenklai looking to score with punches and the occasional body kick but Kem countering well and landing some body kicks of his own against the southpaw. Round two started off in the same vein but Yodsaenklai started to enjoy some success with long knees and landed several in quick succession just before the bell which connected clean with Kem’s midsection and seemed to hurt him.
With many pundits predicting that Yodsaenklai would fade in the latter stages of the fight round three was always going to be crucial and the Fairtex fighter started to come on strong. Kem appeared to be hurt and was just covering up but Yodsaenklai spotted a gap in his guard and drove an uppercut elbow through it. Kem collapsed face first to the canvass and was obviously out cold, sparking wild celebrations from Yodsaenklai and his corner. It was an emphatic way for him to win the fight and show that at the age of 27 he is still a force to be reckoned with.
The general consensus from Kem’s camp was that the size difference had been insurmountable and their fighter should have trained for a little bit longer in order to bulk up for this fight, rather than coming in at his usual walk around weight of around 70 kgs. The entire show was recorded in HD which meant that the stream failed for many people due to low internet speeds in the stadium but the fights should be uploaded to youtube soon.
