UFC Quick Quote: Jon Jones urges 'idol' Anderson Silva to retire after two 'flukish losses' By Thomas Myers (http://www.sbnation.com/users/Thomas%20Myers) @TommyMyers (http://twitter.com/TommyMyers) on Feb 4 2014, 10:00p 29 (http://www.mmamania.com/2014/2/4/5379726/ufc-jon-jones-urges-idol-anderson-silva-retire-fluke-losses-broken-leg-mma#comments)

"Here I am, on the road again; There I am, up on the stage; Here I go, playin' star again; There I go ..."
“It was just sad. I know how long Anderson Silva’s been working to be who he is. I’ve won several world titles, this guy’s won like 12, 13. That’s a lot of work. To see such a magnificent career and legacy get tarnished by two losses, two kind of flukish losses – I wouldn’t call the first one a fluke – it sucks. It leaves a weird taste in your mouth, like it’s not supposed to end that way. What I’m hoping is that people remember Anderson for all the magnificent things he’s done, and all the lives he’s touched, and all the people he’s inspired, and I’m hoping that Anderson just stays away from the sport and continues to be an inspiration outside of the Octagon.... Not fight again. Anderson can do seminars, he can do motivational speaking, he can help all the kids in Brazil, I mean he’s such an idol. His greatness has just begun, but I think in the Octagon, I think it’s been already fun.”
-- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is confident former Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, will return to the Octagon before 2014 expires (http://www.mmamania.com/2014/1/28/5354776/dana-white-espn-sportsnation-video-anderson-silva-back-fighting-end-year-mma). Ringside announcer, Joe Rogan, has urged the legendary Brazilian striking sensation to take his time (http://www.mmamania.com/2014/2/4/5378262/too-soon-joe-rogan-not-in-agreement-dana-white-timeline-anderson-silva-ufc-return-mma). Meanwhile, his contemporary, Jon Jones, recently told "Lavar and Dukes" radio show (106.7 (http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/02/04/jon-jones-hopes-anderson-silva-just-stays-away-from-the-sport/)) that he wants "The Spider" to just retire from the sport, a sentiment that Silva's son also shares (http://www.mmamania.com/2013/12/31/5260230/ufc-168-results-anderson-silvas-son-wants-him-to-retire-stay-home-broken-leg-mma) after watching his father shatter his shin (see photos here (http://www.mmamania.com/2013/12/29/5252636/photo-anderson-silva-catostrophic-broken-leg-pic-chris-weidman-kick-mma)) in a UFC 168 rematch with Chris Weidman in Dec. 2013. Silva? He wants to return to combat sports once he is healthy, but would rather ease into things with a boxing match (http://www.mmamania.com/2014/1/22/5335600/anderson-silva-next-fight-roy-jones-jr-boxing-match-ufc-comeback-mma) against Roy Jones Jr., a tired narrative that White just wants to disappear forever (http://www.mmamania.com/2014/1/25/5345236/crazy-dana-white-stop-talking-about-anderson-silva-boxing-roy-jones-jr-mma). Silva, who will turn 39 years old in a few months, is still in the midst of a grueling recovery -- there really is no concrete timetable for his return. However, despite back-to-back losses to "All American," one has to wonder what motivation Silva would have to rush back to competition regardless. Indeed, Jones is onto something -- it certainly "sucks" that his career could end this way, but -- all things considered -- there are worse ways to go out than just two "flukish" losses. Is it time for Silva, and UFC, to just turn the page? "Bones" certainly has (http://www.mmamania.com/2013/9/14/4730228/jon-jones-ufc-super-fight-anderson-silva-still-on-mma).
