Subject: From Sri lanka to beloved Worldwide Kyokushin Family

OSU! Respected Shihan Sjaak,

I am Rukshan Stephen, the Secratary of the Kyokushin Karate organization of Sri Lanka. Sensei Prasanna Fernando has asked me to inform you about th present situation in Sri Lanka.

First of All we sincerely thanks our world wide Martial Arts friends for showing such concern and affection. I know that the world wide family and the citizens of the regions are immencely shocked at the situation in Sri Lanka. It is a great strenght to us that all of them are willing and prepared to help us. Thus we are certain that we are not isolated or alone.

So far the death toll has reached 31,000 in Sri Lanka alone and the number of civilians scattered are 700.000. This number is increasing Rapidly in South Asia. This great tragedy is one we will never forget and there is no doubt that this is one of the worst devastations the world has ever faced.

We are continuing to hepl and support are people to once again start life all over again. For now this is the only hing we can do to boost their low mentality.

This tragedy has caused devastations in the South, East and North and west of the country which has been very seriously damaged. We are maintaining 6 kyokushin dojos in the east of the country and train over 2,600 students from this area alone. Also the number of studets the dojos in Vavunia and Mannar are about 620. Also the number of students in dojos in Kaluthara and Panadura (west) exceed 420. Also there are many students and instructors including their families, whose lives have been shattered due to this disaster. Their families, homes, lands and lives are destroyed as some of them are still reported missing. The most damage has been caused to Trincomalee and we do not know much about the situation there because we can not reach that place and even tele communication has been cut off. But we will hopefully have some in formation regarding the situation there within the next two or three days.

Presently Sensei Prasanna Fernando has joined with other members and are active in a welfare programme involving the thousands of left over refugees. We donated food and medicines at the expence of the members to some areas on the 27th and 28th.

We are currently looking for the support of both local and foreign citizens to carry out this pragramme more efficiantly and effectively. We also anticipate the support of our beloved brothers and sisters of the world wide family. For this cause we humbly ask for their support as much as possible.

They are mostly in need of medicines, food and clothing. And we would also accept all forms of financial aids given to build back their destroyed homes, families and lives.

We are commited to this program with a sense of humanity and a sense of national feelings. For this cause we are recieving the support of our members and their families to carry out these actvities.

Once again, we sincerely thanks our world wide friends and members of the world wide Martial Arts family.

Yours Sincerely,
Rukshan Stephen.
(Hony. Secratary.)
