Kotc Uk Banned From Huddersfield!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The global sport sensation that sees spectators of over 50,000 in Japan and is a regular event at venues such as the Mandalay Bay Hotel Resort and Casino in Las Vegas has been deemed unacceptable for Huddersfield!
King of the Cage had planned to hold their first UK show ever at the West Yorkshire town of Huddersfield on 11th June, bringing fighters from all over the world including current King of the Cage World Middle weight champion, Joey Villansenor, defending his title outside of the USA for the first time in King of the Cage history.
Unfortunately late on the night of Saturday 9th April, King of the Cage UK promoters received a call from the venue, stating that “The Kirklees Active Leisure Board of Directors had decided not to allow the event to take place in any of their venues. It is a devastating blow for the globally recognised Mixed Martial Arts event, however, the UK promoters were confident that they were not down for the count.
Aaron Chatfield, of the KOTC UK promotion team, stated that “It is obviously disappointing. We had TV coverage confirmed, global press and local fighters on the show, we 100% believed that it was an opportunity that any modern council would embrace. We selected a venue with a history of boxing coverage and a town with a history of rugby support, knowing that MMA has a far better safety record than both of those popular sports. King of the Cage has been taking place for the last 7 years and 50 shows, so we are confident that we will find another venue in another town that will embrace the sport and the global recognition it can bring.
King of the Cage UK are now on the hunt for a new venue outside of Huddersfield, a home base to build the promotion from. The date remains firm as 11th June 2005 and a new exciting venue will be announced very soon.
