Barry became interested in martial arts after a youth spent doing what he describes as dead-end jobs. Finally he went for a job at a Chinese restaurant. By coincidence, the shop was situated below Brian's Kung Fu school. "I first saw Brian sitting on the back steps of the restaurant with his eyes closed and initially I thought he was dead. Luckily it turned out he was only meditating." Barry took to Brian "The Guru's" teachings instantly. "I was impressed with his wisdom, his strength and his handy location. I joined straight away."

Barry Dawson has won the "Double Golden Fist" 6 years in a row. He is also a rare master of "fence fighting" (the art of combat on wire fences). He is world champion in four countries including, Zambia, Somalia, Greenland and Chad. Barry now runs the Cougar Arts Federation in Melbourne, Australia, under the guiding hand of Guru Brian Watson.
