Vorige week vrijdag was het dan eindelijk zover. De grote MT show van de Amerikaanse promotor Dennis Warner op het exotische eiland Jamaica met negen wereldtitelgevechten. Dat weekend was er op het eiland een groot cultereel festival waar o.a. het MT en een Golftoernooi onderdeel van waren.

2) Baxter Humby (USA-Canada) WOP vs Jiangtao Dong (China)
IMTC World Super Welterweight Title

Baxter "the one arm bandit" Humby verdient echt veel respect door met 1 arm in de ring te verschijnen. Hij vocht zeer slim tegenover de Chinees Dong, die geen moment in de partij in zijn spel leek te komen. Humby draaide erg goed weg, scoorde zijn puntjes en dankzij een ijzersterke conditie won hij de partij.

3) Deisellek Rungruangyon (Thailand) WOP vs Marco Pique (Holland)

Pique kwam simpelweg te laat op gang op de partij naar zich toe te trekken. De Thai begon de eerste twee rondes goed. De laatste twee rondes kwam Pique erg goed terug. De jury gaf de derde ronde aan de Thaise vechter en dus verloor Pique zijn partij op punten. Het publiek was het hier duidelijk niet mee eens, mede omdat Pique gedurende de gehele partij het initiatief nam, maar te langzaam was met het counteren van de hoge trappen van Diesellek. Ook al belanden deze allen op de dekking van Pique worden ze bij de WBC wel als een punt gezien.

Voor aanvang van de partij komt promotor Dennis Warner de ring in om zijn respect te betuigen aan Ginty Vrede. Afgelopen januari vocht Ginty zijn laatste partij van zijn te korte leven in Las Vegas en bereikte volgens Warner de absolute top van de berg door WBC wereldkampioen MT te worden. Het gehele stadium was stil toen Ginty ook hier uitgeteld werd!

Malaipet en Yodsaenklai zijn 2 van van weinige Thais met tattoos volgens mij.

Harmen, heb je nog vechters over de vloer gehoord? Lijkt wel alsof er meerdere 'lappen' liggen die ook niet helemaal strak gespannen lijken te zijn. Op sommige foto's zie je de voeten relatief ver weg zakken en de ene 'lap' soort van opkrullen t.o.v. die ernaast.

De ring was inderdaad erg slecht. Als je de partijen download kun je zien dat zowel Villaume als Brown over de touwen vlogen. (de ringtouwen waren te slap en konden tevens niet goed meer worden aangespannen, omdat de spanners al maximaal waren aangedraaid. De vier standpalen stonden doorvoor te dicht op elkaar. Dit was het eerste MT gala op Jamaica dus er zijn zeker puntjes ter verbetering.

Overigens heeft Lamsongkram ook twee tattoos..;)

Mooie foto's weer Harmen. Jammer van de Nederlandse mannen, maar Germaine heeft de Nederlandse eer hoog gehouden. Balrak is wel een beetje te veel op weg `super heavy weight`te worden ;)

De laatste jaren komen er steeds meer Thaise vechters met tattoo's.

Denk bv maar eens aan Nopparat en heel bekend is de enorme Yak Sant tattoo's van Wanlop.

Na zijn partij heb ik echt veel respect voor Baxter "the one arm bandit" gekregen! Wat een conditie had die gozer! Hij vocht heel bewegelijk en scoorde ondertussen zijn puntjes. Door zijn stijl van vechten was hij moeilijk te raken en kwam zijn tegenstander geen moment in zijn spel.

Had was ook helemaal op. Pique moest hem neerslaan op de partij alsnog te kunnen winnen. Dieselek had in de eerste drie ronden veel hoge trappen gemaakt (hetzij alles geblokt, maar toch...hij maakte ze wel) Pique liep als een stoomwals vijf rondes naar voren, maar pas in de laatste twee rondes zette hij echt druk op de ketel. Vooral Anthony Anderson liet na de partij nog even duidelijk horen hier niet mee eens te zijn en was van mening dat "my brother Pique" bestolen was van de eindzege.

Hij is zeker relaxt! Op het benefit gala op zaterdagavond heeft hij voor een aardig bedrag even een complete Jamaicaanse school geadopteerd (financiele steum om o.a. de school te voorzien van nieuwe computers)

Tja, Skippy zou neergeslagen worden, maar dit springt nog vrolijk rond. We moeten in Nederland niet denken dat we de beste thaiboksers van de wereld zijn, want er loopen genoeg andere toppers rond die het ons erg lastig maken.

Balrak is natuurlijk niet meer zo snel als in zijn oude klasse, maar nog steeds moeilijk te raken en ondanks zijn verliespartij weet geen ene Jamaicaan meer wie Steven McKinian is, maar wel wie die ene Bombakla dude is met zijn mooie bycycle kick..:rolleyes:

Vielvoye is wel een tijdje op de rolatie. Zijn knie was echt dik in het vliegtuig terug. Hij moet echt herstellen.

Ik ken natuurlijk niet zoveel Thaise vechters als jij (maar ja, wie wel hier op dit forum? ;)) maar viel mij wel eens op dat ze over het algemeen maar weinig tattoos hebben. Zeker in vergelijking met de Nederlanders. Daar is het bijna moeilijk om er eentje zonder tattoos te vinden.
Leuk voorbeeld van Thaise vechters met behoorlijk veel tattoos: Wanlop Sithpolek ;)
