vind dat een goede zaak...
vroeger hadden alleen tuig tattoos maar tegenwoordig loopt elke huismoeder wel met een kontgewei en/ of vlindertje op haar vatsige lijf rond
aan de andere kant vind ik het weer cool als advocaten en doktoren met fullsleeves rondstappen
dat dan weer wel
lowlifes forever...

Deze meneer heeft het wel begrepen:
I have tattoos. I have to 'business casual' dress code where I work, and I usually wear a tie daily. My boss is a bit on the conservative side and he didn't know for weeks that I tattoos.
For all of you out there thinking that the only people that get tattoos are "trashy lowlifes", get a clue. What do you mean you wouldn't hire a person with a tattoo? Do you also hold the same discrimination for folks that have darker (or lighter) skin?
You're all ridiculous. Now, tattoos on the neck, hands and face can be a cause for the conservative alarm to start blaring - those places are where clothes cannot cover it up, and it is looked down-on in the business culture.
On another note - tattooing IS AN ART FORM. Do you understand the complexity of drawing and patience for accuracy and detail? I'm a Graphic Designer/Artist and I can attest that tattooing is a legitimate art talent.
Sure, portraits of kids tattooed on your forearm can be slightly creepy. That I won't argue with. I enjoy tattoos, but I'll never have my son's face tattooed on me. There I'll agree with some of you folks.
When I'm 70 years old, I'll proudly where short-sleeved shirts displaying my ink. I think it's great seeing old WWII vets or Korean War Vets with their old Army regimens tattooed on their forearms. Their blurry, went from black to a greenish color, and they're hard to read - but those soldiers will never regret it. However, you might regret getting that Tazmanian Devil or Tweety Bird tattoo - something with no real significance.
And it's funny, because the tattoos on my arms are what Carpenter called out - Polynesian. Funny.
Apparently a lot of you, including you, Mr. Carpenter need to look online and see some of the gorgeous, pristine Japanese tattoo art, as well. Sadly, most of you think of tattoos and all you picture are the people that have gang symbols, prison tats, insignificant cartoons and teardrops on peoples' faces. Pitiful.
Most of you and Mr. Carpenter need to turn on the Discovery Channel or travel once in a while to get a glimpse of the world around you. It's so much more than the 'trailer-trash' you're all thinking of.
Disfigurement is a completely absurd term to use, too. There are people that pierce things that you would think wouldn't be pierced, and there is a method of marking called 'Scarring'. And it's exactly what you think it is. Tattoos, to me, besides fashion, can be a mild form of expressing yourself, compared to some of the other forms that I've witnessed.
Kijkend naar mijn eigen situatie. Een goede baan in combinatie + een aantal liter inkt op rug, borst, arm, been. Maar geen van mijn tattoos zijn zichtbaar. Ik hoop dat het ooit eens 'echt' geaccepteerd wordt, zodat mijn arm vol kan ;)
