Zondagavond 30 augustus was de Anthony Nesty sporthal te Paramaribo het toneel voor de vierde editie van “the Return”. Een concept van het Nederlandse Slamm!! Events die hiermee elke keer weer een uitverkochte zaal trekt. Dit keer was de promotie gericht rondom “the Return of the Iron Lady”, Germaine de Randamie en alles was uit de kast gehaald hiervoor. Het gehele land is lange tijd in het teken geweest van dit gala. Posters en grote billboards hebben lange tijd het straatbeeld bepaald van de stad en de kranten stonden er vol van. Ook op de televisie was het raak! Elke dag interviews met de vechters en voor de lokale radio moesten de vechters ook vaak komen opdraven. De persconferentie werd live uitgezonden op de televisie en zelfs deze werd enorm druk bezocht. Iedereen wilde een glimp opvangen van één van de vechters en vooral Anthony Kane en Germaine de Randamie zijn mateloos populair in Suriname.

Collega Chris van der Meide had het er al ruim twee jaar over; de sfeer in het stadium en de mensen hier! Bizar! Hoe de mensen hier met de sport meeleven is iets wat ik nergens ter wereld heb gezien. De volle zaak leek met 5000 man publiek wel op een colloseum van 50.000 toen B-klasse vechter Moesie El Messaoudi de strijd aanging met locale held Sack Nie. Het werd een avond vol keiharde partijen en een hoop show.Na het gala heeft het land er echter een nieuwe held bij gekregen; Victor Kuku.

1. C 3x2 72,5 Kg Miguel Gids (Boni Gym) WOP vs Dion Halfide (The Gym)

Voordat het hoofdprogramma van start ging stonden er een zestal C-klasse en een B-klasse partij op het programma. Het waren vooral lokale vechters die met enorm veel overtuiging voor de winst gingen. Gids scoort gedurende drie ronden iets meer dan zijn tegenstander Halfide en wint verdiend op punten.

2. C 3x2 78 Kg Archie Orban (Sparimaka) vs Carlos Yvel (Boni Gym) WOP

Wederom een C-klasse partij met oude bekende Carlos Yvel die we ook wel eens in Nederland aan het werk zagen. Als eerste valt me de karakteristieke trainer op van Sparimaka. Yvel vecht bekeken en meent weinig risico’s. Naarmate de partij vordert trekt hij deze langzaam naar zich toe. Niet echt een hoog tempo, maar wel een verdiende winaar: Carlos Yvel.

3. C 3x2 61 Kg Guanita Maatschap (Sparimaka) vs Lindsay Scheer (Team Haycraft U.S.A) WOP

In de eerste damespartij van de avond zag ik eindelijk een Amerikaanse die enigszins kan kickboksen. Lindsay Scheer van Team Haycraft mag gezien worden als een leuk talent. In de partij was ze een klasse beter dan lokale vechtster Maatschap en lanceert ze een heel Hollands lowkick offensief op haar tegenstander. Maatschap loopt de hele partij achter de feiten aan doordat Scheer steeds sneller is en elke keer het initiatief toonde.

4. C 3x2 60 Kg Dave Emmanuel (The Ultimate Gym) WOP vs Maurice Douglas (Sparimaka)

De vierde C-klasse partij van de avond was misschien wel de partij met het snelste tempo, Emmanuel versus Douglas. Beide heren starten hard en de beginfases van elke ronde is een waar slugfest. De opvallend in Slamm!! kledij gehulde Emmanuel was toch de iets betere en wint nipt op punten.

5. C 3x2 57 Kg Jackson (The Gym) WOP vs Callen (Boni Gym)

Tijdens de weging leverde het een behoorlijk staredown op, maar in de partij vocht Callen vanaf het begin alleen maar in zijn achteruit. Misschien dat hij al het begin van de partij last van zijn maag had, want een ronde later lag zijn darminhoud op het canvas. Jackson domineerde en won de partij op punten.

6. C 3x2 61 Kg Saraya Truideman (The Ultimate Gym) vs Danique Tolenaars (Team Slamm!!/TB Den Haag) WTKO 2de RONDE

De tweede damespartij van de avond beloofde heel wat te gaan worden. Deze partij was behoorlijk opgehypt in de media en Truideman zou de Nederlandse Tolenaars wel even een lesje gaan lezen, tenminste dat waren de beweringen. Tijdens de partij was daar weinig meer van over en de eerste ronde zet Tolenaars op punten achter haar naam. De Surinaamse kan moeilijk met het lengtevoordeel van Tolenaars overweg en laat zich in de beginfase van de tweede ronde vastzetten. Tolenaars lanceert in haar eigen hoek een stotenoffensief en Truideman gaat neer. Na acht hersteltellen is ze niet geheel duidelijk in haar bedoelingen en (naderhand) zwaar protesterend telt de scheidsrechter haar uit.

7. B 5x2 70 Kg Yves Tjon Sack Kie (The Gym) vs Moesie El Messaoudi (Team Slamm!!) WOP

De enige B-partij van de avond beloofde een ware oorlog te gaan worden in de ring. In vijf rondes zagen we waar vuurwerk van beide heren, Sack Kie en Slamm!! vechter El Messaoudi. Met harde knieën naar het hoofd scoort “Moesie” veelvuldig en door de vele acties in de ring gaat het publiek enorm te keer! El Messaoudi scoort toch beduidend meer en wint de partij (zijn eerste B-klasse) verdient op punten.

8. A 3x3 72 Kg Benito Linger (The Gym/FC v.Dams) WOP vs Tarik Mokhtar (KB Arnhem)

In de week voor het gala was er met een tweetal partijen behoorlijk geschoven. Mokhtar stond oorspronkelijk gematched tegenover Andy Ristie van The Gym en Leroy Kaestner stond tegenover Anthony Nekrui gepland. Nekrui’s trainer Angelo Simson beweerde echter in de week voor het gala dat een Nederlandse promotor zijn vechter benaderd had om onder zijn management te komen en daarom niet meer de gemaakte afspraken met Slamm!! omtrent de oorspronkelijk geplande partij kon nakomen. Een redelijk vervelende situatie maar na gesprekken met Simson en Slamm!! werd besloten om Nekrui terug te trekken en Slamm!! wilde er weinig woorden meer over vuil te maken. Een oplossing werd gevonden in de vorm van Benito Linger die al meer dan een half jaar weer in Suriname woonde. Linger is net als Mokhtar een beginnende A-klasse vechter en wilde graag invallen voor eigen publiek. Na drie rondes hard beuken gaf ik persoonlijk de partij aan Mokhtar maar de jury besliste in een draw waardoor beide heren een vierde ronde moeten knokken. In deze vierde ronde is Linger iets sterker en wint de partij alsnog op punten.

9. A MMA 2x5 72 Kg Viktor Kuku (Team Slamm!!) WTKO 1ste RONDE vs Gerald Bouwman. (U.S.A)

“the call him Kuku”, de nieuwste ster van Suriname vocht na een afwezigheid van een half jaar in Paramaribo zijn tweede MMA partij in het N.I.S. Tegenstander Bouwman was compleet verrast van de Kuku hysterie tijdens de persconferentie, maar zoals het een echte Amerikaan betracht kon hij ook wat mooie oneliner uit zijn mouw schudden “I’m going to break the Kuku birds wings”. Na een spetterde opkomst van Kuku die de zaal compleet op zijn kop zette was het de Amerikaan die tijdens de eerste takedown de betere positie verkreeg. Kuku klemt netjes af zodat Bouwman niet zijn Mount positie kan optimaliseren. Staand is Kuku een stuk sterker. Vervolgens maakt Bouwman de fout om een klem te willen gaan zetten op Kuku waar deze zeer snel uitdraait en daarna een behoorlijk offensief van stoten kan lanceren waardoor Bouwman word geraakt en neergaat. Scheidsrechter Rick Cocu stopt de partij.

10. A 3x3 100+ Kg Ismael Londt (Team Slamm!!) WTKO 1ste RONDE vs Mutlu Karublut (Team Aerts)

Londt zit in een zeer aardige flow op sportief vlak, maar zoals iedereen ook kan zien deze avond op showgebied. Voor Karublut had hij een leuk deuntje uitgezocht en na zijn overwinning op talent Rico Verhoeven blaakte hij van het zelfvertrouwen. In de beginfase van de eerste ronde schiet zijn arm echter uit de kom na een actie van Londt die hem tegen het canvas beukte. Hij kan echter niet opkomen en scheidsrechter Cocu stopt de partij.

Voordat de partij tussen Cairo en Sikking plaatsvond overhandigde Fred Royers een award aan Quisy van QN Sports voor zijn uitzonderlijk harde werk en productie. Mede door zijn werk kan het gala uitgezonden worden op Eurosport.

11. A 3x3 86 Kg Reduan Cairo (Team Slamm!!) WTKO 2de RONDE vs Fred Sikking (Vos Gym)

Cairo versus Sikking was op papier voor mij persoonlijk één van de mooiste partij van de avond en dat bleek later ook uit te komen. Over en weer hadden beide heren er al een leuke show van gemaakt tijdens de persconferentie waarbij Sikking had gezegd dat Cairo niets meer dan een kruising was tussen Wesley Snipes en Eddy Murphy. Cairo oogde sterk en zelfverzekerd de eerste ronde en zet veel druk naar voren. In de beginfase van de tweede ronde plaatst Cairo enkele harde knieën hoog naar Sikking waardoor deze uit de clinch glipt met zijn dekking laag. Cairo maakte vervolgens een zeer mooie achterwaartse hoge draaitrap die Sikking vol treft en neergaat. Hij kan niet meer op tijd herstellen en blijft liggen waardoor Cairo de partij op TKO wint.

12. A 3x3 70 Kg Anthony Kane (Team Slamm!!) vs Cedric Bacuna (Vos Gym) WOP

Bacuna liet al weten tijdens de persconferentie niet te houden van kabouters in zijn tuin en maakte in zijn partij tegen Anhtony Kane deze woorden waar. Kane begint sterk en scoort in de eerste ronde nog goed. Hij bezorgde Bacuna 8-tellen door een stoot, maar deze komt sterk terug en neemt hierna het initiatief over in de partij. Met lowkicks en stoten werkt hij goed en scoort punten. Kane is te passief en loert op de KO. Na drie rondes duid de jury Kane nog wel aan als winnaar, maar ook deze is sportman genoeg om te weten dat Bacuna sterker was en overhandigd dan ook meteen de winaars beker aan Bacuna. De uitslag van de avond werd de dag erop na een kort beraad omgezet in een puntenwinst voor Cedric Bacuna.

13. A 5x3 65 Kg Germaine de Randamie (Team Slamm!!/KB Arnhem) WTKO 2de RONDE vs Casey Bohman (Cool Hearts Muay Thai U.S.A)

De absolute hoofdpartij van de avond! De Randamie “The Iron Lady” tegen een Amerikaanse dame die eruit zag zo uit een Thais stadium te zijn gelopen. Na een opkomst gehuld in tradities en gebruiken komt De Randamie met een hoop kabaal op. In de eerste ronde is Bohman vrij nerveus en overtuigd niet met haar technieken die een hoop kracht missen. De Randamie zoekt de opening bij de Amerikaanse die erg open staat en in de eindfase van de eerste ronde slaat ze Bohman tegen het canvas. Gered door de bel kan Bohman herstellen maar in de tweede ronde is het meteen raak, na een keiharde stoot gaat Bohman neer en blijft liggen. Germaine de Randamie die zich geen mooier afscheid kon wensen wint de partij op TKO in de tweede ronde.

Haha, thanks Hendy! Kuku is echt de man in Suriname geworden. Hij stal echt de show. De dag voor het gala stond hij nog te dansen met Rudy tijdens het Carribean Soca Event wat de openingsact was voor kevin Lyittle. Als ik weer in Nederland ben zal ik wel even een foto'tje van dat optreden plaatsen.

Voorlopig was dit het afscheid van Germaine in het staande gevecht. Ze is al naar Nederland gevlogen om wat meer tijd met haar familie door te kunnen brengen. 12 September vliegt ze naar Amerika om daar fulltime te kunnen gaan trainen bij Xtreme Couture. Zelf zal ze daar gaan lesgeven in het thaiboksen. In november zal ze terugkeren om een MMA partij op Slamm!! VI te gaan draaien.

@ Marcel; de man in het Team Aerts shirt is de vader van Leroy Kaestner die kwam uitleggen dat Leroy door een buikgriep helaas niet kon vechten. In december zal alsnog de partij tegen Andy Risty gaan plaatsvinden.

Dat Kuku aangenaam gestoord is weten de mensen in Suriname nu zeker. Hij is echt één van de nieuwe helden hier en heeft met zijn show de avond echt op zijn kop gezet. Alle mensen lopen met hem weg en overal waar hij komt moet er gedanst worden. Zoals gezegd was Kuku als danser aanwezig bij de openingsact voor Kevin Lyittle, een dag voor het gala. Samen met zangeres Rudy zorgde hij er ook daar voor dat de main act in het niets viel met zijn preformance;
