Of jij Mousasi even teniet doet zeg!

Mousasi is currently recovering from knee surgery following a torn ACL and is expected to fully recover by November, 2012.[24] He also signed a new contract for six more fights with the organization, making a total of seven.

    1x verloren in 5 a 6 jaar

"I had one fight left (on my Strikeforce contract)," he said. "Then I was hoping maybe to go to the UFC after that, but then they offered me – they said we're going to give you a new contract. So I signed for another six fights. Now I have a six-, seven-fight deal, I believe, in Strikeforce."

Why not push harder to get into the UFC?

"They said the Strikeforce fighters were going to stay with Strikeforce," Mousasi said. "And that's the thing that it was, so we signed again."

Taste The Mat Exclusive Interview With Strikeforce Superstar Gegard Mousasi
    Published Date
    Written by Will Orchin

Taste The Mat bring another EXCLUSIVE Interview to you, with none other than former Strikeforce and DREAM Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi. Gegard tell's us about his battle back from injury and where he hopes to be in his career in the next couple of year's, and also tell's us who he want's to face next under the Strikeforce banner on his return.

Will: Right off the bat, we just want to say what an absolute pleasure it is to speak to you Gegard! So thank's for giving up your time! How are you doing?*

Gegard: I'm doing fine, although I have become very heavy! I weight around 240lbs or so now, so I am trying to lose weight. I was doing a lot of weights because as wasn't able to train.

Will: So how is the recovering going? When are you expecting to be back?

Gegard: Recovery is going well, I hope to be back by the end of the year.

Will: Do you get withdrawl symptom's knowing that your unable to fight anytime soon?

Gegard: Its difficult because it sets my goals further away, its gonne take more time to achieve them. That's the hardest part, that you can't train to get to were you want to be

Will:*How did the injury actually happen and when did you realise it was so serious?

Gegard: It happened during training, but when it happened I thought that I would be fine. I was going to see the Physio but it was after two weeks that I realized that it was much worse than I originally thought.

Will: Your regarded as one of the world's greatest fighter's in any weight class, does that bring any extra pressure of expectation when you do fight?

Gegard: No, I think if I underperform I could do much better. Its a lot to do with my mental thinking. I know I haven't been performing to my fullist and I intend to do so when I get back. As far as expectations, I think a lot of people doubt my abilities as to what i can do, so I dont think they really have high expectations of me.

Will: I very much doubt that Gegard! But*It's crazy to think your only 26 too, and you have accomplished so much already. When did you first start out fighting and when did you realise you could make a career of it?

Gegard: I started with sports at a very young age and I always wanted to be a Champion. I was always working towards that and it became my carrier in doing it.

Will: What does a typical day include for you?

Gegard: At the moment, I'm doing 30 minutes of cycling in the morning and fitness in the evenings. I go to physio couple times a week too to help with the recovery

Will: What are your interest's outside of fighting?

Gegard: I like to hang out with my family and friend's, just the typical thing's like car's, movies, stuff like that.

Will: So you have signed a new contract with Strikeforce, who do you want in your first fight on your return and why?

Gegard: I want to fight Rafael Cavalcante, he is a guy that has done very well with Strikeforce, so I want to fight him when I come back.

Will: Have you discussed a move to the UFC for the future with Scott or Dana?

Gegard: No, Strikeforce is where I am fighting.

Will: But if you were to get a call from Dana saying we have moved you over to the UFC and your getting an immediate Title shot at either 185 or 205, Who do you choose Jones or Silva?

Gegard: I dont care, I would fight either of them gladly.

Will: Speaking of Jon Jones, what do you make of his recent DUI offence? Should it be brushed off as just a mistake?

    Gegard: Yes.

Will: He has looked invincible at time's inside the cage, but do you think there is anyone in the UFC currently who could beat him?

Gegard: He is doing very well at the moment. He is at the very top. I thought Rashad Evans would have a good chance against him, maybe if they had a rematch.

Will: What do you think would be the best strategy to beat him for yourself?

Gegard: The best way to beat Jones would be for me to trade punches with him.

Will: Who is in your top 5 fighter's in the world of MMA?

Gegard: Anderson Silva, Alistair Overeem, GSP, Cain Velasquez and Fedor

Will: Seem's so were in the UK, what's your verdict on the UK MMA scene?

Gegard: I dont know much about that, sorry!

Will: That's ok, How do you rate the UK figher's in the UFC? The likes of Michael Bisping, Dan Hardy and Ross Pearson? Do you ever watch them compete?

Gegard: Yes I do, I think Michael Bisping is a tough opponent. He is definatly one of the Top 5 in his division.

Will: Would you ever like to come over here and fight again?

Gegard: Yes I would, I have fought in England and Ireland before and the crowd is very loud, so there is a lot of energy.

Will: Where do you want your career to be in 18 month's time?

Gegard: I want the Strikeforce belt back and then go from there.

Will: Before we let you go is there anyone you want to give a shout out too?

Gegard: I just want everyone to know I will be coming back better than ever, I promise.

Will: Well again we can't say thank you enough Gegard for speaking with us. Thanks for your time Mr Mousasi
