Erik Perez Knocks Out Ken Stone in Bantamweight Record Time

Erik Perez didn't need much time to finish Ken Stone on Saturday night. Seventeen seconds, to be precise.

The Jackson's MMA fighter etched his name in Zuffa's history books with the fastest bantamweight knockout in UFC/WEC history, as Perez stopped Stone at UFC 150 in Denver.

Perez sent Stone crashing face-first to the mat with a big right hand in the first real exchange of the bout. Stone recovered from that one, but Perez pounced and landed several more shots. Referee Herb Dean jumped in and stopped the fight.

While Stone instantly got back to his feet, replays made it clear that Stone was knocked out cold with one punch and brought back around by the next one.

With the victory, Perez improved to 12-4, with six straight victories, including both of his UFC fights. Stone dropped to 11-4.

The finish came one second quicker than the previous record, Damacio Page's victory over Marcos Galvao at WEC 39 in 2009.

    Max Holloway Finishes Justin Lawrence

Max Holloway isn't legal to drink alcohol yet, but he had plenty to celebrate at UFC 150 in Denver on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Hawaiian featherweight, the youngest active fighter on the UFC roster, improved to 6-1 with a second-round finish of Justin Lawrence.

In a close, back-and-forth first round, Lawrence landed effective strikes, but Holloway opened a deep cut over Lawrence's right eye with a right to the temple as Lawrence charged in. Holloway also landed a pair of low blows in the round.

Holloway opened up late in the second, backing Lawrence off with a knee and dropping him with a wicked punch to the liver.
Lawrence covered up as Holloway opened up his offense until referee Josh Rosenthal stopped it at 4:49 of the round.

"We wanted the fight of the night and we put it out there for the fans," Holloway said of he and Lawrence's performance.

Lawrence, an Ultimate Fighter 15 contestant, dropped to 4-1 on his career.

    Yushin Okami TKOs Buddy Roberts

A game Buddy Roberts came out swinging in his UFC 150 fight with Yushin Okami. But it didn't take long before Okami's experience took over.
The veteran Okami (27-7) snapped his two-fight losing streak with a second-round TKO finish, earning his 11th UFC victory.

Roberts connected with several punches early in the first round. But by the midpoint, Okami regained his bearings and took control. He took Roberts down and maneuvered into top position. Okami unleashed a ground-and-pound flurry, but Roberts was saved by the horn.

Okami dominated round two. This time, when he got Roberts down and opened up his offense, Okami finished the job. Referee Herb Dean stopped the bout at 3:05.

Roberts (12-3), a Jackson's MMA fighter, was the second substitute in Saturday's fight with Okami. The Japanese vet was originally slated to face Luiz Cane, then Rousimar Palhares, but both withdrew with injuries.

    Jake Shields Smothers Ed Herman

Leading up to his UFC 150 bout with Ed Herman, Jake Shields said the altitude in Denver bothered him.
Either Shields was playing possum, or he simply was able to push his way through, because he put on a Jake Shields-like performance on Saturday.

The former Strikeforce middleweight champion, in his return to the 185-pound division, had his way with Herman, stifling him throughout en route to a methodical unanimous-decision victory. The judges' scores were 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27.

Shields used his superior grappling game, both in the standup and on the ground, to overpower Herman, who curiously initiated the clinch in the second round. Shields worked for submissions throughout the fight but was never able to finish the bout. His best sub attempt was a second-round Kimura.

It was the second straight victory for Shields (28-6-1). Herman had a three-fight win streak snapped.

"Fighting at middleweight I like, but the altitude definitely managed to slow down my pace," said Shields.

Donald Cerrone Scores Sensational Knockout of Melvin Guillard

Just when it appeared UFC 150 might be turning into UFC 149 Part Two, Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard electrified the crowd with a 76-second hurricane of a fight.
Cerrone, the hometown favorite from Colorado Springs, withstood a nasty early flurry from Melvin Guillard and scored a knockout at 1:16 of the first round of their co-feature bout at Denver's Pepsi Center.

Guillard (43-11-2, 1 no-contest) rocked Cerrone with a counter left and followed with a big knee, but Cerrone managed to clear the cobwebs and avoid being finished.

Then Cerrone turned it on, connecting with a left head kick which wobbled Guillard, then finishing him with a huge right hand.

"Yeah, I came in a little aggressive and he hit me hard and I was like oh [expletive],' said Cerrone. "But I withstood it."

The victory was the second in a row and eighth in the past nine fights for Cerrone (19-4-1).

The bout was scheduled to be contested at lightweight, but was held at a catchweight when Guillard weighed in at 157.5 on Friday.

Ben Henderson Takes Debatable Decision Over Frankie Edgar

If you thought the first Benson Henderson-Frankie Edgar fight was close, then you hadn't seen anything yet.
In a repeat of their memorable five-round February battle in Japan, Henderson and Edgar went toe-to-toe for 25 minutes Saturday night in the main event of UFC 150 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Like the first time around, Henderson took the decision. He defeated Edgar via split decision to keep the UFC lightweight title he won from the former champion in February.

Tony Weeks scored the bout 49-46 for Edgar, giving him the final four rounds. Mark Van Tine and Dave Hagen had it at 48-47 for Henderson, as both gave him rounds 1, 3, and 4.

Henderson clearly won round one, peppering Edgar with solid leg kicks and getting the former champion into a tight guillotine over the final 20 seconds of the round. Edgar just as clearly won round two, dropping Henderson with a big right hand and then controlling him on the ground for much of the stanza.

Then things got a little tighter.

Round three was one of the closest rounds seen in a UFC championship in quite some time, with both men active but neither doing major damage. In rounds four and five, both fighters scored, with Edgar scoring with strikes off the breaks and also ducking many of Henderson's strikes and answering with counters. But Henderson's strikes landed more heavily.

Henderson (17-2), who has now won 14 of his past 15 fights, felt he earned the decision.

"You always have a concern whenever it goes to a decision," Henderson said. "Frankie's tough. We all know how tough Frankie is. ... They always bring it in rematches."

Though many felt Edgar (14-3-1) earned the decision, he's now faced with the reality that he's dropped back-to-back fights to the champion. A drop to 145 pounds might be necessary, but that wasn't on his mind Saturday.

"It don't matter," Edgar said. "I thought I brought it to him. I don't know if I can watch that fight. It don't matter. I'm upset, man. What are you gonna do?"

UFC 150 Bonuses: Donald Cerrone Earns Double Bonus for KO Victory

It was a homecoming to remember for Donald Cerrone at UFC 150.
The "Cowboy" openly lobbied for a spot on the card in his home state of Colorado, and the effort paid off, netting him $120,000 in bonuses.

Cerrone earned the $60,000 Knockout of the Night award for his first-round finish of Melvin Guillard, and he also collected the same amount for his half of the wild 76-second bout, which earned the duo the Fight of the Night.

Cerrone found himself in trouble early in the fight, wobbled by a left hand from the powerful Guillard. But Cerrone withstood the barrage that followed, and moments later, uncorked a head kick that left Guillard on rubbery legs. Cerrone pounced and drilled him with a straight right that put Guillard out for the finish.

Amazingly, it was only the second career knockout for Cerrone, who has earned 13 of his 19 career wins via submission.

The Submission of the Night was earned by Dennis Bermudez, who also overcame a rocky start to finish Tommy Hayden with a first-round guillotine. That was an easy decision for UFC brass, since it was the only tapout finish of the night.

Meanwhile, six of the 10 fights were finished by knockout or TKO.

In the main event, Ben Henderson earned a split-decision victory over Frankie Edgar to retain the UFC lightweight championship.
