John Lineker, Louis Smolka, Tony Ferguson and Lando Vannata each earned $50,000 for their performances at Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 91 event.

Lineker and Smolka earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses, and Ferguson and Vannata took home “Fight of the Night” honors.

Ferguson (21-3 MMA, 11-1 UFC) and Vannata (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) put on a fight for the ages – at least for as long as it lasted. Ferguson was a 7-1 favorite against Vannata, who took the fight on short notice. But it didn’t keep the unbeaten newcomer from getting in there and throwing leather at the streaking lightweight. Eventually, though, Ferguson was able to get a D’Arce choke and forced Vannata to tap in the second.

In the main event, Lineker (28-7 MMA, 9-2 UFC) was all over Michael McDonald (17-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) early in their bantamweight bout. McDonald, a former interim title challenger, was able to stay in it for a while, stumbling backward, and even landed a few punches of his own. But Lineker kept coming forward and was too powerful. After his first-round knockout, he called for a title shot with champ Dominick Cruz.

In the main card opener, Smolka (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) took out hometown fan favorite Ben Nguyen (14-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) with a brutal second-round TKO. In fact, Nguyen’s cornermen threw the towel in when referee Herb Dean was letting things go on a little too long for their liking. But the first round was a highly competitive back-and-forth contender for best round of the year. Smolka went after seven submissions, but ultimately it was fists and elbows that ended things.
