Robben criticises rotation policy
Arjen Robben has risked the wrath of manager Jose Mourinho by criticising Chelsea's rotation policy. Earlier this week Ricardo Carvalho spoke out about being left on the bench for Chelsea's game at Wigan, although he later issued an apology to Mourinho.
Robben has now said the rotation policy is "bad for a player's confidence".
"If you play two or three matches and one match is bad, you are immediately on the bench and that's not good," Robben was quoted as saying. It's bad for a player's self-confidence because you can't get a rhythm. The problem now is that if you have a dip in form or play badly then you are immediately replaced. I believe we should build the team round a fixed group and if the policy is to be continuous substitution then I don't like it."
Mourinho responded to Carvalho's comments by claiming that the player needed to take an IQ test.
Robben, whose position is under threat after Chelsea's summer purchase of Shaun Wright-Phillips, could now face a similar frosty response.
