Corey Anderson vs. Tom Lawlor joins March's UFC 197 lineup
March’s UFC 197 fight card has another addition, this time in the light-heavyweight division.
“The Ultimate Fighter 19” winner Corey Anderson (7-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is set to fight UFC vet Tom Lawlor (10-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC). UFC officials recently announced the bout.
UFC 197 takes place March 5 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The bout order hasn’t been finalized.
After knocking out Matt Van Buren to win “TUF 19,” Anderson has put together a 4-1 UFC record; the lone setback was a TKO loss to Gian Villante in a “Fight of the Night” effort. The 26-year-old former NCAA Division III wrestler now looks for his third straight victory.
He meets Lawlor, a fellow ex-collegiate wrestler who’s also looking for his third straight win following recent stoppage victories over Michael Kuiper and Villante, the latter earning “Performance of the Night” honors. The 32-year-old, who joined the UFC after a stint on “TUF 8,” is one of only a handful of fighters to earn all four types of UFC fight-night bonuses (fight, knockout, submission and performance).
The latest UFC 197 card now includes:
Champ Rafael dos Anjos vs. Conor McGregor – for lightweight title
Champ Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate – for women’s bantamweight title
Erick Silva vs. Nordine Taleb
Corey Anderson vs. Tom Lawlor
